  • posted a message on Buying mass quantities of cards
There's a card like this that I've been stocking up on. They have a bunch of buy it nows for 3 dollars or so... but occasionally an auction will come up so i can manage to buy a playset for under $4. Id try to go that route instead of going the Buy It Now option, which will cost you a signification amount more money but less time...

Anyone that says it's too overpowered for standard is being clouded by the it's ridiculousness in eternal formats. Like a couple people above me have recently said, it was good in standard back in the day but it wasn't insanely overpowered. Look back through recent years since Ravnica and you can find things that were way more broken than Dark Confidant ever was in standard.
My opinion, however, doesn't change what MaRo said... unless MaRo worded his answer in a certain way so that he wasn't technically lying... while he sat in front of his keyboard, giggling to himself at his misleading cleverness...

  • posted a message on Fat anchor responds to 'bully'
As someone who has been over weight my entire life and have chosen to adjust my lifestyle to slowly lose weight over time, I saw nothing truly wrong with the letter. Yes it was insulting but it wasn't bullying. The person who wrote it is very ignorant and has a rather warped way of thinking. However, her reaction was a little over the top. Spinning this into a tirade about bullying is ridiculous.
    Most Importantly, imo:
I wonder how she gained the perspective of 'I get it', 'I've heard it before', 'I'm comfortable with myself', etc, etc... I'm willing to bet that she was bullied growing up, she dealt with it and (not immediately afterwards but eventually, over time) came out of the experiences as a stronger person. Bullying is not detrimental to a child. Not being bullied and living as if you have some kind of God-given right to never be insulted will make this next generation very soft.

You're probably going to want to look at alternative shipping methods if the timing doesn't add up. I don't know what kinds of shipping Starcity offers for preorders. Regardless, they say the cards ship October 5th. So you essentially have 7 days to get it by the 12th. On another note... you living in Kansas, if there's one thing I experience hitting refresh on delivery tracking pages, you're post offices annoy me to no end.

    Quote from Darkzephyr
What do you mean doing 2 piles of 3?
They are referring to the potential of it being left "unmolested" for a turn. As in no one destroying it. Therefore, if you want, you can activate it twice thus giving you a total of 2 piles of 3 over the course of two turns.

I started collecting comic books not too long ago and saw this when it was starting up. Seemed like a good idea at the time to get a little more used to some different writers and get a crash course in a lot of Marvel characters. For that purpose I guess it worked out well... but my god am I tired of it. I've had in my pull list for a few issues now just because "well I've gone this far, I might as well just finish the series".
I was actually going to cancel it really early until Brubaker (probably my favorite writer right now) wrote the... third???... issue. And after that issue I was like "my god this is going to be good"... yeah not so much.
I'm just hoping it will all be worth it when I start collecting some of the Marvel Now stuff...

Hot Topic, cafes, local music shows, record stores, book stores, etc. If you're really that clueless on places to go to meet these types of girls, that just goes to show you how completely out of this kind of "clique" you are. If you can't even begin to think like them on your own, how do you think you could ever stand a chance with one?

  • posted a message on Buying a new car and nervous
I bought my car last year during a 4th of July "sale". Two things I can say:
    1. Try not to get caught in some verbal trap. They tried to pressure me into agreeing to some ripoff deal even before they checked my credit score because I was a "first time buyer". But then after telling them no a few times I told them to go ahead and run the credit check... then I got my way when they got the results back.
    2. Always be aware of what the price is that you settled on AND what the monthly payments will be. I did a little math in at one point and realized the financing guy was adding on a bunch of extra stuff that I didn't want.

I'm pretty sure federal loans go straight to the school. If I recall from mine. I have a Chase loan that I'm very happy with. I got the check to do what I wanted and the interest on it is pretty low, 3.5%. That's as low if not slightly lower (don't remember off hand) than the interest rate on my federal loan...

  • posted a message on WWE Raw/Smackdown
This is rumored to be Undertakers finally Wrestlemania or there's a chance he might do one more. There's no way they'd have him "lose" a wrestlemania but then win because of an interference. It makes no sense for him to lose to HHH. If he's ever going to give up the streak, it's not this year. Perhaps next year if he wrestles in it.
Why? Because something as prestigious as the streak does not get wasted on someone who is going to be retiring from ring action to be an executive in the office. This type of thing can only be used to propel some younger star to future #1 Man in the Company. Think about a young star who took down Undertaker's wrestlemania streak, they'd be set their entire career. Plus, Calaway/Undertaker seems like a decent enough guy irl to pass the torch like that.
If Undertaker loses his streak to HHH, I don't see how I could continue watching wrestling. It's just egotistical and reflects badly on a future WWE run by HHH and Steph.

  • posted a message on Iron Maiden US/Canada this summer
No one cares about Alice Cooper. It's all about Coheed and Cambria. A group of friends and myself are road tripping 2000+ miles (one way) to go see Coheed and Maiden. We're all really excited.

  • posted a message on What Book Are you reading right now?
I'm currently reading Catching Fire. I have a large list of things to read after that, too, such as:
    Mockingjay
    Game of Thrones series
and a bunch of Trade Paper Backs (Batman, Fables, Sandman, etc)

Unfortunately, I'm a slow reader, so my list is growing rapidly.

  • posted a message on Selling coins. Did MY Relative get ripped off?
If you don't mind me asking, was there a good reason for her selling the coins in the first place? Because unless it is a necessity for some kind of emergency or financial situation, selling that much silver right now seems like a terrible idea and you should get it all back just on principle.

  • posted a message on Selling coins. Did MY Relative get ripped off?
I wouldn't want her paper or non-silver dollars either.

Even if the coins are rare, condition and storage is a big issue. And quite frankly, if she's storing them in sandwich bags, they are NOT in good condition. Not to mention you're giving us very vague numbers here. How many dimes can fit into a full sandwich bag? I have no idea. At the time of this post dimes are $2.42 melt. So he's buying them at $2 each. Seems fine.

1 Bag of Morgans. How many is that? Melt is $25.88 so buying them for $20 isn't the worse thing ever. Yes, you could definitely do better. But are you really going to go through it all, possibly piecing it all out into ebay auctions and pay all the fees for them? Just for the chance of making some more money? Cause let's face two things...
    - It's very rare that you have anything worth money and even if you do, the condition is probably very poor. If the condition is good, are you gonna go through the investment of having it graded?
    - Selling coins is a very sketchy business. Try selling a non graded, key date coin on ebay for a couple hundred dollars, the buyer will complain that you sent him the wrong thing. You'll have to refund him and you'll receive back from him a very poor condition, common year coin. Happens all the time.

Other various coinage doesn't do much for us, either. Other various coinage could be gold dollars.

All in all, she got $2 a dime and $20 on the morgans. That's not the worse thing imaginable. Is she happy with the 5k? Obviously she must of been to accept it. I wouldn't worry her and just let her spend the money. It would be a lot of work for minimal extra money.

  • posted a message on Actually Scary Movies?
The two movies that come to mind right off the bat for me are:

The Orphanage: when the Tomas first appeared in the yard or in the hallway, I was freaking out... or when the all the kids come out to play (vague as possible to reduce spoilers). I have a fear of weird kids... you know the kind that will just stand there staring at you, not saying anything... kill it with fire! So maybe it just hits a big nerve with me and wouldn't be considered scary by others. Oh man, I just remember the seance scene... that really creeped me out.
