Sep 25, 2011DOLZero posted a message on The Vault SkirgeI dont think that it will get near $10, and I certainly hope that no commons reach that price again in the future (I am looking at you, Maze of Ith). I just happen to think that with Skirge being popular in a few different formats that it will likely be worth more than the $.75 that its currently selling for.Posted in: DOLZero Blog

There is the aspect that it eats your grave, and with Delve cards and Snapcaster Mage, we like to keep our graveyard healthy. Managing what cards to eat and when does add a level of complexity to the game, but I generally think it's better to have a choice between two options than to only have one line of play.
I think it's worth playing Lavamancer as a 1 of, and just board him out in match ups where he is bad. I could see reason to run more if you have an Affinity/CC heavy meta. I could see running none if you see a lot of Amulet and Tron.
Lost to Grixis Twin and 8Rack. Won against Burn, Jund, Temur Twin and Infect.
Just wanted to post up my list so people could check it out.

I was under the impression that Mirrored Hearts was going to be taking over the Primer. At this point though, I am not sure if that player is still active in the forums. I've been getting slightly more active though, and could see about giving it an overhaul. I know it's outdated, and there are a few variants of the deck that aren't covered in the current primer (lately there have been some Jund lists popping up with Tasigur, Kolaghan's Command, etc...). I'm not sure exactly when I will have time to get around to it though. It might not seem like it, but it's a lot of work.

I'm not really sure where I want to make changes. I'm pretty heavy on white mana symbols, so I kind of want to up my white mana count, but at the same time all of my 1 drops are green which makes me want to have more than the 13 green sources I am currently running (I have 14, but one is Stirring Wildwood which EtB tapped). I may cut one of each basic for a couple more duel lands. This will increase my count for each color by 1, but also reduces my resilience to Blood Moon. Brushland is the only other land I'm not playing that I can think of which allows the turn 1 mana dork, so I might up the Horizon Canopy count to 3 and add one of those to balance the mana.
The sideboard was pretty solid. Fracturing Gust is the only card I'm considering replacing, but I'm not sure what I would replace it with. The hard match ups are Affinity, Tokens, Soul Sisters, Merfolk, Bogle, Twin, Blue Moon and Storm. I feel well prepared for Storm with 3x Thalia in the main. I've also got a lot of hate for Affinity post board. Choke, EE and Sunlance match up well against Merfolk. I feel like the deck could use more answers for Soul Sisters, Tokens, Bogle and Twin. Blue Moon is probably the deck I'm least prepared for, but I also don't expect to see it. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see Blood Moon from Twin or Affinity.
It wasn't really a matter of Path vs Deflecting Palm. We were looking at cards to answer Kor Firewalker if we felt it would be brought in by our opponents. Pyrite Spellbomb was actually the other card we were talking about running. We went with Path because it could answer more cards than Spellbomb could (mainly looking at Wurmcoil Engine).
If we were to compare the Path to Deflecting Palm, I would argue that Path is a more permanent answer to threats. Deflecting Palm can deal damage, but that is usually only good if you can finish your opponent in the following turn. In situations where you can't, it's almost as if you didn't even play a card. Additionally, Path only costs 1 mana, making it more flexible for casting. Keeping 2 mana open for your opponent's turn in a deck where you might not even see a third land can really put you in awkward situations.

A friend recently piloted this to top 8 at a local PPTQ (Madison, WI). The meta here has a lot of Burn, Affinity, Tron and Twin. Expecting Burn to be the most popular deck, we opted for 3x Helix main and Firewalker in the board. We also prepared for Affinity, which can usually be a bit faster than us, by playing both Revelry and Smash. Path was ideal for Wurmcoil Engine vs Tron, as well as good removal all around. I could see these being swapped out for other cards that are better for your meta.

2x Stony Silence
1x Fracturing Gust
I went heavy on the Kitchen Finks and Kor Firewalker because I know Burn is the most popular deck in my area.
I've been pretty happy with not running Razorverge Thicket in the current mana base. Having the extra room for multiple Temples and Tombs has made the mana base more flexible all around. Still though, I am not sold on 3 Township, and feel like it should be fine as a 2 of. Much of the deck is heavily reliant on having different colors of mana, and running 3 colorless lands seems like too much. I've thought about possibly running Treetop Village, Sunpetal Grove, Brushland, or even an extra Stirring Wildwood. Is there anything else that fits this deck well? Should I just stick with the third Township?
I would still run fetches and a singleton Stomping Ground though.

I might go for Searing Blood over Searing Blaze in the sideboard. They both have upsides in different situations.
Pyrite Spellbomb could also be Ghostfire. It's an optional out for cards like Kor Firewalker that can also hit the opponent in the face. I like that Spellbomb can be payed for in 1 mana increments, and can cycle if you really need to draw a card. This is a flex spot that could be filled in with other cards as well.
Chalice has been played for a while too, and is still great against Burn, Living End, Bogle (set to 1 shuts off 95% of their deck), Affinity on the play (set to 0), etc... Horseshoe Crab wrote a whole post on when and where to play Chalice, which I linked to in the Primer (look at Chalice of the Void under Sideboard section). Check it out.
