Feb 1, 2011lynnalynn posted a message on Power creep sucks for the fun and my wallet. It's a valid complaint, though I have to say with the power creep as it is it really fixes one of the big problems magic had back in the day. The more money you had, the better your deck was. I mean I remember trying and convince my mom to drop 10 dollars on a collosus of sardina (ok, i know, bad spelling), just so I could make an artifact deck. Now this was back during ice age block/revised...So that wasn't that common, but the point of it is the truly good cards were the ones who would trounce you everytime, and only the people buying rares, especially expensive ones would win.Posted in: Blog?
I do agree though, power has risen GREATLY. I look at one of my favorite cards from back in the day, Chromium, Now days he is all but unplayable. Then, he would devestate. 7/7 Flying Rampage 2 with a WUB Upkeep. You literally had to devote 3 of your lands to him. Now days you have dragons that really blow him out of the water one way or another without the upkeep. So in that respects I can see your complaint too. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
LOLlerscates! That is just epically awesome.......*shifty eyes, figuring out how to do all this efficiently*
shoot, last night I had a thought right before going to bed about the Mycosynth Lattice, You can make the doubling seasons artifacts with it, making for even more tormenting hilarity!
Mirrorworks just is so much fun with doubling season. and this is even more fun than the contagion clasps lol. Add in Rhys the Redeemer and you can double that even again. Just so epic! (plus then there is the blue imposter guy from saviors, i believe he can copy Rhys if I remember right)
Lolzed so hard at this one, just such a comical way to win (i'm talking about friendly play not tourny, my work schedule doesn't allow for me to get to too many tournaments anymore).
See, and the fun just keeps on getting bigger! *really getting tempted to do a green deck now......so tempted to switch sides to phyrexian now too*
i'm choosing mirran for pre-release, I know that (not saying that i'm the best player or anything, just saying it's at least one more count on the mirran side) though I do hope phyrexia wins. I want to see phyrexia win due to the fact that it's more flavorful with magic than the mirrans. Though I like the mirrans better in most senses (except those living weapons seem mighty fun to mess around with)
The worst part is I am actually thinking about making a deck revolving around this...maybe add thrumping stone in it just to speed it up.
EDIT: Pardon me, Thrumming Stone
Thank you, better math is even better it would be a waste to do, but just to see the persons face across from you (or face palm depending on the person) would just be hilarity
the phyrexian orb shows for the mirrans and the mirran orb shows for phyrexians
If you take 4 mirrorworks, and 4 doubling seasons, then play 4 contagion clasps, that is 68 copies of contagion clasp on the table. Myr Galvinizer, Myr Galvinizer, Palladium Myr to get them out, and then one click of the Decimator web and after you proliferate all those times you win 7 times over via poison! Lol, I know so inefficient, but just kinda funny to think about. (scratches head and ponders the application with this set up and thallids...so many fun thallids...and a rhys the redeemed....ok, minds just wandering now)
But I like the Warhammer feel that purge the impure has now especially after jewkar made his comment.
EDIT: Wait, i think it would be more....1+2+4+8 Mirrorworks (each producing tokens as the others enter, leaving 11 of them being tokens so 22+4 due to doubling season x4, so 26) 26 Mirrorworks x 4 countagion clasps = 104 + the 4 real contagion clasps = 108. So there for it is possible to (note, POSSIBLE, not Probable) get 108 contagion clasps out at once just based on ones own deck. one click of poison and you would win via proliferate 10 times, though it only counts as one
Least on the list of top favorites was Winning back in the day with a purely homelands deck. Made it that way due to the fact that the backs of homelands are slightly different (color and border size) than any other magic set, I wanted to run a homelands card, the store proprietor told me I could if I only ran homelands in the deck. i did and won a lot with that deck.
Fourth was my Ice Age artifact deck...I miss that thing...
Third was single deck apposing my friends Archenemy deck and Magus of the Mirroring him from 73 to 2. He was so angry he almost through the game there.
Second is I went to a tournament after working a graveyard shift. Brought a Force of Will/Shuffle-Draw/Wisdom deck that filled one of the fat pack boxes. Was energized by a two liter of rum and red bull, and came in third. I was aloud a store credit of like 20 dollars, bough a pack of dark and 5 packs of Saviors (they gave those to me at a cheaper price due to the fact I was the only person buying them..this was during Dissension). Wish I would of skipped out on the pack of Dark and just went for more Saviors.
And my Fav Magic memory....Playing my Sek'Kuar Deathkeeper Goblin EDH deck. New surprises for my opponents everytime I play it. And if they don't play EDH, I just shuffle Sek'Kuar into it and play it like it was any other deck....I love my goblins!
So that out of my way, My name is Dymagox, or just Dym. If you are from my area and play at Topps, they call me Poncho, or Poncho Libre. I'm there too much and spend too much money there. But it's all in the name of good fun.
I wasn't too happy with the courier at first, then after it mulling over in my mind and my gut after a day and a few looks through my boxes, honestly I like it.
I know this post was way back there, but I just wanted to say thank you. I love the flavor of this set and the fact that it is all around an odd set. I mean, I nearly spit my dew out when I saw White Phyrexians...I mean, that never happened before! And they are still the cards out of this set i am most worried about. I think this card is fun just for funs sake, and reminds me of why I play the game...to have fun.
