If this set has no value why the heck is it so expensive to buy? Why not discount this set? I don't get it. People are selling the booster boxes for $300. Why is that?

Age (as stated is one reason), but Ice Age was also the time frame many older players entered the game - me included. For many of us it holds a nostalgic value.

She doesn't even have to be a walker. I'd be happy with a playable instant or sorcery.

I'd like to see this with Tamiyo art:

    Saving Sage xWUU

Tap x attacking creatures and remove them from combat. They do not untap during their controller's next untap step.

    I'll love to see this:

    Saving Sage xxWU

Tap x attacking creatures and remove them from combat. They do not untap during their controller's next untap step. Draw x cards.

The horizon problem is observed through calculations and its solutions are hypotheses. The solution does need empirical evidence, that is why we don't have a solution yet- because we don't have enough evidence. You don't need empirical evidence to suggest the existence of something, but you need it to validate the suggestion. Otherwise, there are very little ways of confirming it's accuracy. It's not about whether you can use evidence, it's about whether you need to, and once you start to make claims within the absolute limits of science, you almost certainty do. Science dominates it's field because IT WORKS.

In the most general of terms, yes you need to. Science has also proven, with empirical evidence, that things exist that we personally have zero evidence of. The Universe doesn't doesn't stop with our line of sight and outside our observable universe (which is shrinking) is an infinite amount of things [galaxies, systems, information] that most certainly do exist. The same holds true for anyone or anything outside of our observable universe. Much of our observable Universe is outside the line of sight for other parts of the infinite expanse and it includes things [galaxies, systems, information] that are very real without assumption - we can see and study them. To someone, something, or somewhere out there there is absolutely no empirical evidence of the Earth, Sun, Solar System, or Milky Way along with the information held within them. They do however, as you can probably guess, exist without question. The only way you can circumvent this issue and possess empirical evidence of all physical information that does exist would require you to A) either be present or observe the Universe before it's inflation period and B) have the ability to take all of the information the Universe held before this jump and be able to map it from here to eternity. If you have conquered both A and B, congrats you are omnipotent.
In science there are absolutes that are proven with information, there are absolutes that are accepted due to information, and there are absolutes for which no information can be possessed from certain positions.

-Firstly, religions don't have empirical evidence. That is, some evidence that can be observed. This doesn't have to be witnessing something directly, just some measurement or factor that can be seen. Think I am wrong? Give me some then.

Empirical evidence is not a necessity of something's existence. The Horizon Problem in physics proves this. That's all I really care to add.

  • posted a message on Insurance and MTG
In my experience most homeowner and renter insurance policies provide little to no coverage to "collectibles" and those that do so usually do at a sharp premium. Personally, I have had my sports collection covered by Collect Insure for the past couple years and I can recommend them on their prices, luckily I've never had to file a claim so I can't vouch for the ease of submitting a claim - although a colleague had a theft claim pay off in 60 days at 100% of his purchase price. A couple points I would like to provide:

    - Collectible insurance is primarily built to cover high value collectibles not bulk collectibles. If you have 15-50 cards with a combined value of $5000-$10,000 the policies are built to your needs. If you have 10,000-20,000 cards with a combined value of $5,000 the claim will be much more difficult to file and collect and would be in my opinion a waste of money.

    - "Fireproof" safes are always popular with collectors and I use a safe to store some items I keep at home, but remember that there is no such thing as a "fireproof" safe. Some safes have high "fire ratings" which means they will keep their structural integrity at certain temperatures for a certain period of time. Even if a safe has a high fire rating it will turn into a smoke filled oven in the midst of a severe blaze. Bake a couple commons in your home oven at 400 degrees for a half hour and that's what you'll have in the event of true fire.

    - If your collection includes high value items (in this particular hobby Power, Vintage Staples, ABU unopened, etc.) I cannot recommend anything better than a safety deposit box at your local bank. There are drawbacks such as not having parts of your collection on hand 24-7, but for the protection they provide and the low annual cost there really isn't an affordable alternative that can match them.

A marketing department stocked with graphic designers who mock something and then run it past the higher ups for approval.

J/K, that would just be dumb. In actuality there are entire novelized back stories for the booster packs that are unreleased. Only by assembling all the packs from can you begin to decipher the code that will break the game.

Not to deter you, but here are just a few things to consider before jumping in head first. In today's economy, without the necessary capital to back your business you will start out behind the 8-ball. Banks are very cautious about loaning money to an entrepreneur who doesn't have excellent business experience and a well tuned business plan. In the event that you can secure a loan, you can expect to at best break even your first year and the usually entails the entrepreneur not drawing a salary. If you continue forward be sure to consult an accountant who can properly school you in the how to operate a business. Best if luck though if you make it a reality.

  • posted a message on Italian Legends Lot - How would you sell?
I have a huge lot of Italian Legends jank, 7000-9000 cards. Anything of real value has been combed out. So now I'm left with like 78 Presence of the Master and 50-60 Urborg on and on. I know that there is a market for these cards and I could maximize return by selling individual playsets for a buck or two on eBay, but lord that seems like to much work. How would you get rid of this chaff?

some are just really outlandishly expensive, at times I think the companies that sell them are being terrainacle by purchasing all of the rare ones up. ground rules should be established

This. Whatever it means, but this.

But seriously, I agree with the OP. I like the aspect of value within my cards, and I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment I get by completing a deck. Especially one with some monsters in it.

I'm been testing out this build with average to above average results. The goal isn't really to mill out a library, but to mill into a favorable position. Such as:
    Turn 1: Jace's Phantasm
    Turn 2: Glimpse-Swing for 5-Extract a threat
Turn 3: Swing for 5-Hold open to counter a threat

Invisible Stalker + Curiosity = Win

    This go around.
    Standard - Nothing
Modern - Preordain unbanned. Maybe Visions.
Legacy - Nothing. Although I like the rumor of Mana Drain being unbanned as a test.

I do predict that Enter the Infinite will lead to a Show and Tell ban in legacy next go around.

Maybe if a rule was instituted allowing for 6-8 max per deck modern border cards would keep it from growing stagnant.
