Good start, imho the secret in her power lies in comparing her to Jace, Architect of Thought.
Then when you realise they are almost the same card, however Lilly is one cheaper, she might be a whole lot better than most people think.
Wait, just to get this clear, abilities here also refers to triggers?
Normally WotC uses the phrase activated abilities, so it is kinda confusing.
All abilities on the stack.
Indeed, this is no MBT. But it will see play nonetheless.
Ah yes tx!
This definitely might see play then. Voidslime saw play, and this card is more powerfull in every regard.
The fact that it deals with cards like abrupt decay, works potentially like a mindbreak trap, and even exiles is a pretty big boon, for only the tradeoff of 1 mana and it being monocoloured.
No matter if this card is gimmicky or not.
The fact that there IS a 2 card "I-win" combo in standard, in the same colours no less, is something to take serious.
Last time that happened, was when splinter twin was legal in standard.
I am at least certain that most pro's will have a look if it can be broken before the PT starts.
Assembled alpha... meh. It's like a bad version of trample? If the blocker is small, it a bad trample. If it's big enough to trade.. well, yay, you got an extra 3 damage in. Not worth an otherwise vanilla 6CMC.
It's much, much BETTER than trample.
When blocked by anything other than a 2-toughness creature without deathtouch, it's as good or better than trample. It makes double-blocking, one of the most common strategies for dealing with trample, very costly. And it plays well on defense if needed
Fixed that for you, though i agree with the point you are trying to make
This is sorcery speed. This cost 3mana. This 2-for-1s yourself though some of that COULD be mitigated in the right circumstances like sacrificing extra lands.
It's fine, but nothing to really get exited about and many seem way too high on this.
convenient delirium enabler in limited.
Yeah, that's the best thing you could say about this, imo.
13 hanging utensils.
13 stones in the fireplace.
13 wood blocks in the fireplace.
13 broken pieces of pottery.
13 boards in wall+ceiling.
13 rivets in the barrel.
13 drops of blood on the wall.
Also, this is my new favourite card. Seriously. To second place you go, Kiln Fiend.
There is more:
If you do not counter the numbers, each sentence has 13 words exactly.
Also the casting cost 1 B + 3 C
In the end the card will be just as worthless as a common, but if it sees play (and thats likely as you need some ramp, especially as they dont print any useful ramp creatures at common) , it becomes unnecessary expensive (not too much, but still).
This is exactly the core problem people have with it, but it is an invalid argument.
People hate 'useless' or trashbin rares, because their money is wasted when they open one.
However that is not the premise that WotC bases their rarity on, even if you and other people don't agree with it.
There are format staple cards that are common or uncommon, but do you ever hear people complain that they should be a rare instead?
It is pure hypocrisy and an emotional response. And to be honost quite frustrating to see people complain in every single spoiler thread about the rarity of a card.
Either accept it, or get a job at WotC and change it yourself.
Literally everything you just mentioned are qualities that commons have... He sometimes has deathtouch... sometimes. That's just enough to bump up to uncommon in most peoples' eyes.
Really? Show me a 2 cmc common in relevant past that taps for different colours of mana.
Sure most of these traits are what commons have, but the fact of the matter is he has four different traits. Rarity goes up with complexity, and complexity in this case is the amount of abilities the card has.
Rare mana dork with... Deathtouch? Now I'm pissed just like Sorin.
All this moaning about it being rare.
People really do not know how to evaluate cards, and why they are rare, yes ofcourse it is a rare.
It has probably one of the best values you can realistically expect from a 2 cmc manadork.
It ramps, and fixes, if you need the mana.
It can put on pressure, because it has 2 power, if you do not need the mana.
It can possibly trade with a much larger creature due to it having deathtouch, so it even controls the board at defense.
What more would you expect from a rare?
For it to draw cards, or morph into a planeswalker?
People are overestimating the life loss.
If anything magic history taught us, is that lifeloss rarely covers the benefits you gain from paying it. And more often than not it is a 'mistake' by RND.
dismember is one of those cards, here people play 4 life in a heartbeat for a 1 mana removal spell.
People have been fetch/shocking/thoughtseize themselves in modern for a while now. That is 5 life, for a 1 for 1 trade.
Except, from what I understand, Thoughtseize had recently fallen out of favor in modern for that very reason. People have been switching over to Inquisition of Kozileks and Duresses instead.
Phyrexian mana was simply a mistake, but that's not comparable to Anguished Unmaking. Dismember costs 4 life, but it also lets you skip 2 mana and, more importantly, all the color requirements. Not to mention, you have the choice to pay full price for a dismember and avoid the life loss if you're low. None of that applies to Anguished Unmaking. You have to bolt yourself every time, no exceptions. That's super dangerous, especially in a world where Fiery Temper looks to be one of the best cards.
Anguished Unmaking is a good card, and it is going to see play, but just jamming 4 into every deck that can cast it seems wrong.
Thoughtseize seeing less play is a metacall, it is still arguably the 2nd best discard spell ever printed.
Modern is currently in an ultra agressive meta, in which affinity sees most play. IoK obviously hits everything in affinity, and if you want to have more discard duress still has a very high hit ratio due to the agressive decks being spell themed. Infect, boggles, burn, and obviously it hits cards like cranial plating.
I never compared dismember directly to anguished, it is comparing apples to oranges. I did use it however as an example of how little the life loss means, if your deck wants access to a card similar in function.
I could have named cards like doomsday, channel or necropotence as examples, however these are more obscure, obviously on a much higher power scale and older cards.
Instead we are talking about unconditional instant exile all purpose removal for a relatively low mana cost.
Good start, imho the secret in her power lies in comparing her to Jace, Architect of Thought.
Then when you realise they are almost the same card, however Lilly is one cheaper, she might be a whole lot better than most people think.
It also reminds me of the time when Lili of the Veil got spoiled in original innistrad.
People are funny

It is pretty much a worse oblivion ring...
