Not quite sure where you are going, but i don't think it works. The second damage Saskia allows is not combat damage. However, give the Envoy double strike...
This is indeed a nice card, 5/4 Trample for 4 mana cost is already a decent rate, and it's all upside from there.
I'm amused you can read this as "damage dealt from the top of your library."
I’m 80% sure it’s talking about all damage dealt this turn not just itself.
it doesn't say where nor “combat” after the part of its own damage
It's referring to the triggering damage, which the trigger condition specifies is combat damage.
Would have been much cooler if this would be a trigger for any sacrifice.
Korvold did it much better, this is way too simplistic of a card, and at 6 mana, well, should expect more than this.
But we don't need that card, we already have Korvold. Why would anyone want two Korvolds? This guy is for people who don't want to accidentally pubstomp the table.
So they just slapped Demon on each card type and put some horns in the art. Nothing about the cards has anything demonic mechanically. Zero downside. Zero additional costs to cast like life or resources. Oh how far magic flavor has fallen.
Demons haven't been required to have downsides or additional costs for a while now and I don't see any reason they should.
That’s the whole point. They used to have some mechanically unique qualities that identified them as demons. Now they’re just angels with black mana and that’s boring.
At the very least, some recent demons require you to pay life or sacrifice a creature to get their abilities.
These have no demonic identity. You could remove that word entirely and the card wouldn’t be any different - you’d never be able to differentiate it from anything by else.
Calm Down. I absolutely love wild demons with crazy drawbacks, but that's not the only correct way to design a demon. Plenty of people want to play demons without committing to an often unpleasant gimmick, just like dragons and angels. Your favorite kind of demon is not the only correct kind, because you're not the only Magic fan in the world.
Seriously, that's like insisting that every hydra has to be a 0/0 with counters and every rebel has to be able to search for a rebel with +1 mana value. Mechanical gimmicks are fun and all, but they're just gimmicks, and R&D shouldn't be ruled by them. We'll see plenty of drawback demons in the future, so just be patient and let other people have fun, too.
Yeah they talked on this with the first DnD set, for crossover walkers it will go by rule of cool and/or if they find a planeswalker card design that works better than a creature card than if the character fits as walker lore-wise.
That's just plain stupid. Way to water down any significance to the key differentiator of your game world. I mean, what was the point of the war of the spark if any half wit can become a Planeswalker?
The point of War of the Spark was to make a planeswalkers-matter draft set to simulate the war on Ravnica. What are you talking about?
I'm talking about the story line. Bolas struggle to become a full walker again. Made it seem that Planeswalkers are rare special unique. Now Joe the garbage guy can be one.
Yes. That's how D&D works. Got a high level spellcaster buddy and some wanderlust? Congratulations, you're a planeswalker. Planeswalkers *aren't* that special in D&D compared to MtG. I don't know much lore specific to D&D video games, but Minsc has gotta know at least one epic level wizard. Mordenkainen? Elminster? That's all it takes here.
Wait, the tokens dying trigger the token generating ability. The once per turn limit obviously weakens it, but have we ever seen tokens that automatically replace themselves before?
I think people are kind of missing the obvious possibility of de-compleation (partial even, say where they regain some of their old personality). Like, whether or not it is actually doable or happens in the story, there is no doubt that the characters will be wondering whether or not they can do it and that gives a whole new element to the story.
Like, this is such a common trope. Character is converted in some way stories always end up exploring to what degree they can be saved, the question even of whether there is more of them still in there than it seems.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the whole soul connection of a planeswalker spark makes phyrexian planeswalkers more suspectible to regaining their former consciousness. We'll have to see. And therein lies the drama.
Oh, we're well aware. I'm just waiting impatiently for War of the Spark 2 so I can have my favorite character back. Every set that isn't War of the Spark 2 will be less exciting now because more characters I like will inevitably be put on team evil for no reason. I want to get off Mr. Bone's wild ride.
I always find complaints about bad things happening to popular characters a little silly.
“Why couldn’t it have happened to a character I don’t care about?!”
Because you wouldn’t care. If they only did things you won’t care about then you wouldn’t care about any of it. The reaction they’re getting with this decision is the entire point. You don’t like that this bad thing happened to Tamiyo because you care about the character, which means they did their job correctly.
Back in Shadows block, I wanted Jace to find out Tamiyo had been killed. Let the story revolve around her for a time and then move on. I didn't expect to get anything better. This? Turning my favorite character evil for shock value? It makes me sick to my stomach. If they kill her off because she's a villain now, I'll be livid. I just want this damn storyline to be over already. That's not a sign of good storytelling. There's a massive difference between giving a character an appropriate end and eliciting cheap surprise.
They clearly stole the blue dragon's name from Kingdom Hearts. This means the dragons' names are probably significant in Japanese, just like several, if not all, of the names in the OG Kamigawa blocks.
Kairi, Sora, and Riku just mean Sea, Sky, and Land, so Kairi is a perfect name for a major blue aligned nature spirit.
Huh. My least favorite mechanic, Disturb, came back, but my favorite mechanic, Decayed, didn't. That's disappointing. Also, weird that spirits are still a DFC tribe in this set, but they get a commander deck when werewolves didn't.
Cleave is super exciting, though. I love those weird looking mechanics that give options, like Aftermath.
