We don't have many relationship issues. We don't really even "fight" about the business. It is more that I am concerned for her emotional well being.

    Hi All,

I am writing this to blow off some steam and get some advice. My wife owns a small retail business. It is a nice shop in a touristy area and part of a unique little strip in our town with a coffee shop and some restaurants and our LGS. It is not jsut another strip mall, it is pretty cool. But that aside, I HATE the business, it drives me nuts and I want to be out of it.

Some history. She bought it 2 years ago while we were dating. I that it was a bad idea. I told her I was concerned about it but I did not try and talk her out of it. In fact I took the lead on all the business arrangements because she felt like she was not able to do it alone, this should have been a red flag, but I wanted her to be happy and this was her dream.

She paid cash for the business, and it is all her money, none of mine is tied up in it. But, she had never held a job prior to this. The first few months were awesome, she loved it. We made a lot of new friends and people really appreciated the business and the changes she was making. We made a lot of money through that first tourist season. Then she slowly started burning out and hiring more employees. The person who owned it before us had one employee, she has 6. We make almost no money because we pay all these employees. Sometimes we make no money.

My wife has no real management skills. She gets angry at the employees because they dont do what she wants but she never ever talks to them about it. Instead she brings all of her resentment home and dumps it on me, she tells me how frustrated she is, how stressed she is, how terrible she feels, how balancing the budget is hard. But when I raise a solution it turns into an argument. She is living with huge amounts of stress that she vents to me, and then I feel negatively and concerned. If I tell her that I cant deal with it then she accuses me of not supporting her.

I have told her a couple times to get out of it because it is ruining her life she gets upset and cries and claims she loves it and it makes her happy, but its not and it is getting worse.

I love my wife, she is an amazing person and I feel guilty sometimes that I am not supporting her desire to keep the business, but I feel like I am supporting her long term happiness. I really dont know what to do I just want my happy go lucky wife back. I make enough money to support us we dont need the store. I wish I knew what to do.

Wallet always goes in my right front pocket.
Phone always goes in front left pocket.

Keys and pocket knife go in same pocket as wallet, just to avoid damaging my phone.

Glasses are always on my face.

I understand your sentiment, but that kind of environment unfortunately doesn't exist (and won't exist). The very fact that other (bad) people have guns is what makes me feel that possession of one is somewhat necessary. It would be pretty bad to get into a situation in which you did not expect to need one, but do, and you don't have one. SOL

You mean that it doesn't exist in the United States? Because as far as I know one really doesn't need a gun in most places in Europe. Or would you argue that we would be better off if the average citizen here also had access to firearms?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196941/The-violent-country-Europe-Britain-worse-South-Africa-U-S.html

Britain, which is in Europe, is one of the most violent countries in the world. Just because your attacker doesn't have a gun doesn't mean you don't need one either. Just recently in China some scumbags with knives killed like 27(?) people at a bus station. The doctrine of overwhelming force should always apply. I carry a gun and trust me I am going to bring it to bear against anyone who is trying to cause me physical harm no matter what weapon he is using to do it. If I feel like my life is in danger I will use my gun (I hope I have the training and ability to do so) But I am not a cowboy walking around trying to intimidate people. I never ever insert myself into a situation that may escalate, I never let anyone know I have a gun on my person. And if a situation seems like it may turn sour I leave.

Once at an all night diner a couple of my buddies picked a fight with a gang of college kids. I had my carry weapon on me. My friends expected me to have their backs. I walked out to my car and left. I would never rely on the fact that I am carrying to save my stupid friends from a stupid situation and I wouldn't put my gun in the middle of a street fight.

Do any of y'all have CHLs or do you carry without a license?

I'm in the process of getting a CHL but I just need to file the paperwork and take the classes. Unfortunately my druggy parents took away my .38 because we're not on speaking terms. So I have a rifle, a shotgun, and a 9mm Ruger that is too much gun for me.

I live in what many people would call "the hood" and am surrounded by drug dealers but I mind my business and they mind theirs. I've never had a problem with drug dealers when I keep my nose out of their business. I used to live in a high crime area. 50 feet behind my old house in a park a girl from my high school was gang raped then murdered, and I was nearly kidnapped by gang members twice in my own neighborhood by either the Latin Street Kings or "The Japs" (yes, I know the name of the gangs in my hood because they spray painted their names on the overpasses and cul-de-sacs). Not to mention my mom getting assaulted in a store and nearly getting killed by a clearly drunk person. So yes, I think that concealed carry is a great idea for me.

I have a CCW. Better yet I have a Utah CCW which is reciprocal in 37 states. I can carry concealed legally in most of the country. It is my personal belief that first and foremost YOU are responsible for your own protection. Cops dont prevent someone hurting you, they secure the scene and contact your loved ones. It is not enough to have a concealed carry though, you need to have the training to use it properly and be responsible. Problem is in California if you use your gun you better be ready to face the consequences. I would not have faith that the authorities in that state would respect your right to self defense. (I am from CA, got the hell out when I had the chance)

I noticed a lot of people carry knives/guns on them. Do you guys live in rough areas or just like to carry them?
    as for me:

Wallet (black leather pretty big wallet)
    Jewelery (wedding ring/silver chain
    Watch
    keys (house etc)
    phone (iphone 4s)
    Headphones (generic samsung)

    occasionally 3ds system.

I carry both a knife and often times a gun. I started carry a knife for personal defense reasons while traveling. It turned into a utility tool and I use my knife for something every day.

I live in an almost 0 violent crime area. BUT I work at a college and deal with kicking students out of school for various offenses. I usually am informed when we have a student who may be a problem. During times we are dealing with those issues I carry my gun to work.

I have spoken to my boss. I told him I was looking for more responsibility and wanted to progress and I had an opportunity at another institution. I told him in good conscience I cant ask for more money here unless it comes with an increase in responsibility.

He said "I cant blame you for that. Go check them out and then come talk to me again before you make a decision."

    Hey All,

Need some advice. I work as an advisor in higher education making about 30k a year, which is peanuts, I know, luckily I am in an area with very low cost of living. I have been at my job for 18 months and have not yet been offered a raise. I applied for another job, it is 800 miles away and pays 48k a year, again in an area with low cost of living. I was interviewed last Thursday and Friday morning I had an email offering me full travel reimbursement ($700) to come visit the campus and meet the people. They want me there next Monday (March 3). While they did not explicitly call it a second interview I am assuming it will be.

    My questions are:

    1. Do you think they are flying me out to extend me an offer? Is this common practice? (I have never been in this position before)

    2. Can I take this to my current boss right now as leverage for a raise? Honestly, if I was given a raise of 6k a year I would be HAPPY to stay where I am at.

Even if someone got a magic wand and waved it to grant them complete omniscience, it still wouldn't make that person physically capable of doing what you're describing. You're overlooking that part.

How do we know this? The supposition is with complete understanding of the physical laws of the universe we could then synthesize means to work within those laws and recreate events that have led to the development of what we know as the universe. How can you say even if we knew how we could not do it?

Edit: just want to hear your reasoning, not saying you are wrong. And yes this is all theoretical.

This is not intended to be a conflict, but I have a question. I am agnostic and coming from the LDS (Mormon) faith. One of the tenets of that faith is that through faith and study we can one day become like god. This always seemed strange to me, until (ironically) I started really questioning faith religion and God. When I decided I was agnostic I feel like my perspective really opened up.

My question is this, and it is more of a thought experiment not a condemnation of anything.

Basic supposition: There is no god and the universe is based on a number of scientific laws.

So, we as humans continually strive to understand these laws. We seek scientific knowledge and the ability to manipulate the world around us. As humanity advances we gain a more and more complete understanding of the nature of the universe. At some point (a thousand years, ten thousand years, theoretically of course) We would be able to have a complete encyclopedic knowledge of the laws of physics and nature etc. With that complete knowledge of how the universe, the earth, and life were created we could then replicate all of the above, and from that point proceed to manipulate it and have a constant influence upon it. Would that make us a god? It would certainly make someone a creator.

Do not like. The art isn't bad, but not that good either. Also, pathetic attempt to try to sell your derpy Battle the Horde event Wizards.

Huh?? does not compute. A playmat the gets given out to two people per store does not equate to some kind of marketing scheme. Stop being an idiot.
