I am building a UW control focusing on Venser blinking my control cards, Glimmerpoint Stag etc.
Right now I am running 2x Wurmcoil and 1x Frost titan as my finisher, I have a playset of Myr Battlespheres, I am wondering if I should switch out the Wurmcoil for the Battlesphere?
He seems to have more synergy with Venser, blinking for myr tokens then swinging for huge numbers. Or is The engines lower casting cost and Lifelink/Deathtouch better?
My store is 10 bucks to draft and 8 if you are a college student. Prizes are store credit and FNM Promos. (I won store cred, an Everflowing Chalice and a Knight of the New Alara as a door prize this week)
Standard at FNM is 3 bucks entry and 1 if you are a college student. From what I have read here it seems pretty good deal.
This is a gimmicky deck Idea I have been toying around with, tonight I decided to build it.
It is Blue/Red mill using Jaces Erasure, Molten Psyche and Vensers Journal. basically you stack your hand while your card drawing spells burn through your deck. The erasure ensures constant milling as you burn your draw cards, the journals allow you to build a large hand size to burn a molten psyche with a couple (hopefully at least 2 erasures out)
I need ideas, and specifically help with survivability until I get the journal on line. This deck is basically built with junk rares I have had just sitting in my collection.
Urza's Block was my personal favorite, and a good time to be a player. But I have to say MTG is doing pretty well right now, whether you like the cards or not a lot of people are getting into the game, and personally I think Zendikar was a great block. Anecdotal as it may be, I know about 3 new players and a couple old players who got back into the game in the past 2-3 months, and these are just from my good friends.
And I have heard a couple times at my local that MTG had its best selling year ever in 2010, if that is true or not I dont know, but at the rate I see people snagging boosters and boxes around here, it might be.
I think SOM is a strong set just waiting to be brought out of its shell by the next sets in the block. With MBS and the next set coming along to give Scars context, which low price cards in SOM do you think will blow up in value over the next couple of months as the block gets completed?
Going to FNM tonight and want to do some trading to be prepared.
Im thinking things like Lux Cannon will rise with release of MBS. Any other guesses?
I am just getting back into MTG, have not played competitively since Masques block.
I am working on a UW Venser deck to take to FNM. Ive been playing around with it a lot and I like what he can do. I was a control player back in the good old days, and since I cant afford a playset of Jace 2 (just opened a box of Worldwake and no luck) I wanted to build a control deck around Venser.
I can drop Ingenuity and Ior Ruin Expedition in favor of more Jace 1.0 and probably Preordain.
Then drop a sphinx and with a temple bell/Jace 1.0 I will be drawing more cards than I need to power the erasure/molten psyche combo.
Working on new deck list now.
