Neither Favored Hoplite nor Phalanx Leader are good enough.
You're probably right about Heroic. Daunting Onslaught is pretty awful outside of limited when I could be exiling a creature, dropping spear, or ajani.
Here's how it's looking now.
you're right. playing i landed cruel ultimatum and found it helped but didnt do well enough. if i can land the 7 drop cruel ult easily then throwing in bolas would be a great curve topper. taking out 1 duress.
If he tries to pull that stunt in anything more than a casual game the penalty for doing so is failure to maintain game state and I'd argue that the intent behind it would merit fraud.
In my original post i said it was a 5 player casual game, this was not the case. (in the same day we did play the casual game but this was not where the issue occurred.) This was 1v1.
The vitals of the situation are as follows:
Opponent controls Frost Titan with 0 untapped lands
It is my pre-combat mainphase.
I have 7 untapped lands, 5 Plains and 2 Swamps
In hand I have Arrest and Journey to Nowhere
I declare casting of Arrest, targeting Frost Titan.
I wait for him to declare the Frost Titan's counter shield ability, but he never does.
Arrest trys to resolve, and he says it's countered by Frost Titan.
(I had to deal with this, and shrugged it off, then paid 4 mana for my Journey right after. Losing a card and 3 mana for nothing.)
I just dont think this is right.
Here are his arguments:

- 2 things, u have to pay the 2 before it(Arrest) resolves (which u didnt pay any) and i dont have to remind u till it (Arrest) resolves.
- If u dont give the person (titan controller) time to call the abilitie, ur card is countered if he does call it. because u have let ur spell resolve
Please, I need something solid to say to him that will get this over with.
EDIT: With Megrim, two Jar activations can result in your opponent discarding as many as 14 cards in one turn (7 for each delayed trigger), assuming that player doesn't cast any of the drawn cards at instant speed.
which is exactly what happens in the video i linked.

I really think Dauntless Onslaught is going to shine with heroic, but it would probably be one of my first picks to drop if I want to sideboard out.

I realize this and I intended to pay the cost the entire time, but I was not given an option to.
I did, he said its not a 'may' ability.

the only way i can see this happening is with something like Thada Adel, Acquisitor
so you end up keeping one hand and discarding the rest?
i heard of a combo with this and megrim so i would assume it works this way.

3rd place in an 8 player standard tournament and think i could've done alot better.
was playing against these decks:
w/u control feat. jace beleren and gideon jura (1st place)
mono white aggro equipment (2nd place)
"leveler" deck (last place)
WUR allies feat. venser, the sojourner (5th place)
UR pyromancer ascension burn/draw (4th place)
eldrazi tokens/summoning trap (7th place)
MBS only burn feat red sun's zenith (6th place)
deck suggestions within reasonable price range (ie. not "more tezzerets") would be appreciated
If your willing to splash green..
Angelic Arbiter + Arboria
This and Door to Nothingness are out of the question for casual.
