I don't play M:TG much anymore. However, I still want to have 1 commander deck (to keep my nerd cred and when I see my old MTG buddies). I had an Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and an Animar, Soul of Elements commander deck. My Oloro deck was a pillowfort, kinda controlly deck. My Animar deck had only 1 sorcery/instant (the one that lets you play the top card of your library until you hit a non-permanent).
I sold off my Animar deck and all my blue cards from my Oloro deck. I've settled on Orzhov as my colors because I like what they can do. I'm not sure who to go with for my commander and I'm looking for suggestions. To help narrow it down, here are some of my thoughts.
*Thinking about Life Gain synergy; however, I'm concerned with being shut down by Erebos, God of the Dead so if I go with a Commander based on life gain I'd like suggestions on how to stop Erebos from ruining my day
*Not looking for any combo kills, I enjoy controlling and beat down
*I really like the following cards: Grand Abolisher, Baneslayer Angel, Stoneforge Mystic, and Athreos, God of Passage.
*I'd like a semi-innocuous commander that won't attract too much attention

Aug 19, 2015Crackdown seems less psychological impactful then say Smokestack or Tanglewire. It feels more pillow fort which I'm going for and less resource denial. I'm not looking really to lock people out of the game, just slow them down. I'm not really looking to combo off either.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

Aug 17, 2015So I had a Oloro Good stuff deck but realized I never ever played Oloro. Sure, the 2 life per turn was nice but it just feels so wrong. There really was no life gain matters but I enjoyed using some of the gods like Thassa, Athreos, etc. It's got most of the swords in it and some good stuff like Dark Confidant, Snapcaster, etc.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
So now I'm going to use Zur, The Enchanter since I'd actually play him. However, it seems most Zur decks are based around a Stax ideology but I'd like to make one that's getting value out of him in the way of Phyrexian Arena, things like that. What cards would you suggest for that kind of deck? Is there a good thread that already answers this question? Thanks.

Woops Never mind I figured it out.
May 24, 2015GenghisTron posted a message on Who is the best Commander to lead a Morph themed deck?Yeah it's kinda sad that it's so obvious but I mean after playing 3 creatures you can play your morphs face down for free. I can't really think of any other commander that synergizes that well.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

Sep 11, 2014I don't currently have a SoFaI so that's why it's not included. After thinking about it Geist of Saint Traft would be good so I need to run one of those down. I'll give Daxos of Meletis a chance. I guess I was trying to find dudes that I wouldn't feel terrible about playing without a sword in play but it seems like most of the double striker or unblockable guys are pretty vanilla. Thanks for all the help.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Sep 7, 2014So I built an Esper stoneblade deck using Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. It's basically a goodstuff deck with some life gain synergy. I'm looking for the best creatures to hold swords, jittes, whatever. The following cards are in my deck:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Sword of Feast and Famine
Sword of Light and Shadow
Sword of War and Peace
Hannah, Ship's Navigator
Divinity of Pride
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
So the deck has some recursion. Dark Confidant and Snapcaster Mage are among it's goodies. Lots of enchantments, some of the Theros gods, so I think I'm going to grab a Zur, the Enchanter.
So I've got two good double strikers in Mirran Crusader and Drogskol Reaver. If there are any other double strikers in those colors or creatures that have good abilities when they connect with players would be cool. Creatures with evasion and other nifty abilities would fit the bill, too. Help me out guys.

Jan 11, 2014If this is all true they better make Pharika as baller as Pernicious Deed or as boss as Spiritmonger since we're not going to get either her or the scryland until the end of the set. Almost seems they want to keep Jund down but still allow people to make the aggro/burn B/R deck or the more creature oriented R/G deck.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Dec 17, 2013See through sleeves are allowed just as no sleeves at all (unless those cards are marked or Innistrad double face). What we're missing is the tone that was used and the exact words. The judge may have thought you were fishing for a game loss on your opponent for just using clear sleeves. If you had seen a card that was discolored or marked that would have been grounds for getting a deck check, not just the possibility of that occurring.Posted in: Magic Rulings Archives
It would have been better if you had pulled the judge to the side and asked him out of earshot of your opponent. Obviously too late for that, but it may have changed what the judge thought what your intentions were.
All you're going to get out of this topic are opinions on people who weren't actually there. In other words, a discussion missing information.
