I love how people think this mediocre card has suddenly all of a sudden made a terrible card (Legion's Initiative) playable.

It's a 4 mana card that only does something if other cards are on the battlefield. And it doesn't help the turn after a sweeper at all. This is not what Boros was looking for.

It's just speculating. After all, devotion made the previously crap card Nightveil Specter an all-star.

Creatures are very different. They win the game on their own. Initiative does not. Iroas does not.

C'mon so a virtual Honor of the Pure that allows your creatures to dodge wrath effects is unplayable now? I think that is judging a bit harshly. Boros hasn't had the cards to support it yet but there are a lot of cards yet to be seen.

This guy mixed with a little Legion's Initiative and some Spark Trooper with a side of Boros Charm could make for a tasty dish. Grin

I can tell you don't play legacy because you want this to be banned. Show and Tell is not the problem, Griselbrand is.

Just like Survival of the Fittest wasn't the problem but Vengevine was. And why the heck did they ever ban Flash when Protean Hulk was clearly the issue.

Why do people keep saying this? All black and white bordered cards are theoretically tournament legal. Formats are defined by specific cards they allow and disallow, not by border color. In other words, of WotC came out with a new supplemental product that was white-bordered, it would be legal in eternal formats unless specifically excluded.

I'll agree it's not an Unset, but just because it's black border doesn't mean WotC intends for it to be legal in eternal, especially if the cards have Conspiracy-unique rules.

If they chose to print the card in a border which was neither black nor white (Unsets were silver bordered), under current tournament rules they would not be legal in any sanctioned tournaments. Authorized cards for tournament play are, in part, defined by border color.

It's not all about how well he is running the city. Having an embarrassment for a mayor on a global standard cannot help but negatively impact foreign investment into the city. Makes me pine for the days of Mayor Mel who was fairly innocuous by comparison.

Birthing Pod and Spellskite aren't a good comparison because they came from a 3rd set.

Snappy sees less play then Zen Fetches.

Other than saving them for MMB (Modern Masters 2) is there any reason wotc wouldn't put all 10 fetches in Vintage Masters?

True but what other comparable rares from recent sets see significant modern / legacy play that we could compare to? We could go back to Lorwyn block for examples but one could justifiably argue a disparity in supply compared to ISD. I'm not about to compare something ridiculous like Etched Champion or something like that as we are talking leagues difference in playability. Bottom line, we haven't seen a rare as playable as Snapcaster Mage since Dark Confidant and Bob did ok. No way SCM will be 5 tix, or even 7 tix, 3 years from now, no chance.

Re fetches... other than burning 10 rare slots and the negative impact on limited play I don't see a compelling reason. However my thinking is they reprint the onslaught fetches and save the others for MM2. They have to keep some of their powder dry since VM is bound to already be a gold mine for playables.

redeeming paper sets would be kinda hard wouldn't it?

Yes it would. About as hard as removing digital copies from circulation would lead to a flooding of the market with said copies.

Of the more recent sets that were drafted with in single set drafts, no rare went higher than 5 for longer than maybe a week. At least i haven't seen it (i don't follow modern prices that closly so it's possible)

I really don't understand what you meant by this sentence so sorry if I misinterpreted it but certainly Zendikar block had a number of 5+ rares after rotation, not the least being the modern fetches. Birthing Pod and Spellskite are other more recent examples. Snapcaster Mage has more long term potential than either of those cards, in more formats, and more decks by a wide margin.

    Snapcaster is rare.
If a set is redeemd a lot, that is bad for the value of rares as it basically floods the marked with additional copies.

Do you understand we are talking about mtgo?

I see a price ceiling on Snapcaster in a range similar to that of shocklands. It is usually played as a 3 or 4 of in the decks it is played in so it has that going for it as well as being in a heavily redeemed set. Will probably see a small boost from vintage masters. I don't think it will see a reprint for a long time and certainly not in a standard environment. If you could get 12 tix for him I would say you would have done well.

Release price doesn't mean much, it's based purely on hype and/or perceived value/usefulness of the card. Besides, if THS was bad as you say, that would actually increase the price of the few chase rares and mythics.

I never said THS mythics were bad however modern/legacy playability is also a factor in price.

The window of this endeavour is primarily over the course of release events which go through to October 23rd.

Prices of cards are primarily driven by the influx of supply from THS release events. THS cards being bad or good in a macro sense has little influence except with respect to how playable THS cards are to each other. I anticipate the lower entry fees to cause more drafts to fire which is an influence on my price predictions. You may agree or disagree but it is probably just easier to prove me wrong by posting your own list.

Wotc likes when games end or effectively end on turn 4 in standard.

When you only see 11 of 60 cards, the luck factor increases drastically, which allows bad players to win through egregious deckbuilding mistakes.

Wizards likes it when throngs of people not showing up to events and their LGS's to play because of broken decks and formats driven by overpowered spells and mind numbing mirror matches does not happen. #cawbladestandard

He'll see play when the meta works out a decent mono G list which may be a thing if it can reasonably go over the top of RDW and if Burning Earth becomes more of a thing.

Right now he is battling against Stormbreath Dragon in GR lists and Fleecemane Lion in GW where he is completely outclassed.

Chandra's price 3 weeks after release was 9 tix. Chandra is about a billion times better than any mythic in THS.
