    I think you might be putting angels on too high a pedastal. What's the minimum you need from an angel card in order to fulfill your need? Most people think Serra Angel when they think MTG Angel; it's a pretty boring card. Serra Sphinx proves that it can be swapped out for different creature types with no problem. Malach of the Dawn proves that angels are secretly ghost boats. If they printed Goblin King for this set and replaced the word Goblin with Dwarf on it a few times, it'd be a perfectly fine flavor card, I think. I have a hard time thinking of a card design that couldn't have creature types swapped out and still work.

    This angel inspires an army of dudes with an impromptu funeral. I think that's okay angel flavor.

    I've been looking at Mindblade Render for a while now and wondering if it would ever be a Legacy card. Maybe it's time? Perhaps not. Mythic monowhite angel that my Bruna, Light of Alabaster commander deck gives the hard pass to. Didn't think that would happen.

    Every Archon could have been an angel, way back to Blazing Archon in Ravnica, but this couldn't have been a horse really, maybe a pegasus? It flies. Also it's a warrior? It's a tribal set so it's a bit dorky and simple so that us simple tribal deck builderfolk can comprehend the rules text.

    Once you have a saproling out, tapping down one of your saps on end step to make another one is a pretty low cost. Compared to Jade Mage this thing is pretty efficient. One of two cards in white that I'd want to push into W for in a saproling deck, the other being Pallid Mycoderm

    It's amusing to me how many slowtrips were later just reprinted as cantrips, like this card and Predict. In predict's case, the card was further improved to be able to target yourself

    Burn spells that only hit creatures are pretty much restricted to Limited environs. I think Fire Prophecy is a good design though, playable in some Grenzo, Dungeon Warden builds or things that don't want to draw an Emrakul and have it sitting in hand. Anyways, Galvanic Bombardment is pretty unstellar. Doesn't start off with enough damage to justify that it can't target a lot of things.

    Okay but what about the Snow Sorcery? Are there Snow lands in Kaldheim or not? These cards were spoiled together by the same source, right?

    I think most of the Retrace cards were wasted on making creature tokens. But really, Retrace is just Flashback or Jumpstart with slight changes. And as for dredge, there's actually rather good dredge cards that were used as intended, like Life from the Loam, Darkblast, and Shenanigans.

    Anyways, Retrace is really only fun in constructed along with Loam, incidentally, and it's pretty much the cheaply costed ones that get played.

    I think the card would actually be significantly more balanced if it had to target a creature an opponent controls and gave them -1/-0 until end of turn or something. Kind of the Demonic Dread limitation.

    But then, of course, the card would have an effect other than exiling your own graveyard.

    I was already thinking about an activation on the enchantment in the first post there, so maybe it's a solid idea. And maybe they could check P/T based on "creeping counters among lands you control" so that lands with multiple counters add more value.

    There is certainly too much at stake.


    If it's up for grabs, who's going to grab it when you reach out and miss time and time again? Relax and be patient. We live life and then we die. If you live faster you surely die faster. I don't like New World Order. It should just exile the card temporarily if you're making something like that. Could even be an enchantment instead of a sorcery, with Vanishing. That'd be cool.

    Generally speaking your first card is confusing because it's trying to resolve a spell partially, and there are certainly things in magic that could arguably be losses or gains based on context. My card is also absurd, but I have less work to do when it comes to defining what a loss is in every gameplay situation. I think you'd have a long list of things to go through

    This card's only job is to try to make Return of the Nightstalkers, a terrible card, a lot better, so the idea is that you would never cast him from your hand. The downsides of Return are manyfold; Nightstalkers are bad, Swamps are good, and ROTN costs 7 mana. I decided to turn the "destroy all swamps" into a benefit; If he enters the battlefield right after you've blown up all of your swamps, along with a bunch of other stalkers, this can really put the hurt on your opponents.

    In short, his CMC is high, but you were never really supposed to look at it in the first place!

    Might as well add this idea while I'm playing around with ability counters (Which honestly I'd be happy was an evergreen mechanic)
    Basic draft common style, but wanted to use Monstrosity in this way. Even thought about Monstrous -1 Deathtouch granting a -1/-1 counter as well but that's a little too goofy for even me.
