Arena of the Ancients
I was building a new EDH deck when I stumbled across this card in my collection. With the new rules changes on tuck, it seems like Pacifism and Transform effects like Darksteel Mutation are sort of the closest thing we have to tuck effects. This one acts as a global stop for legends. I like how this card doesn't target so it gets around hexproof and shroud housing voltron decks too. While this all sounds great on paper I was curious what the community thought of this card.
Stranglehold
It shuts down a lot of things and I love it!
My favorite thing is when the green players and anyone with fetchlands realize that their lands are suddenly useless. Sadly can't protect itself against Sylvan Primodial
I've been told self imposed limitations breed creativity when deck building, So I decided to give it a try, to make a deck where all nonland permanents feature the word "counter" in the card or reminder text. By choosing this, it dramatically changes my choices and avoids the the classic staples such as consecrated sphinx. Of course since there is very little ways for a counters deck to interact with players because of lack of removal, counterspells have been added giving my deck a little bit of control. Without further ado let me present you my deck:
According to tcg player the prices of this deck is Low $58.5 Avg $91.4 High $180.77. I would describe the deck as combo counter ramp beatdown. Some combos:
[Mana] Gilder Bairn + Sporeback Troll +Druids' Repository/Gemstone Array (with 11 counters)
[Creature removal] Kraj + Grim poppet + [CARD]Devoted Druid
[/CARD]
Let me know what you think, this deck is still all theoretical, so I haven't bought the cards or started making it. I'm sure there are some improvements that can be made
I was thinking of throwing together a shade based deck and using mana doublers such as crypt ghast, is this a cool idea? Does it work. I like the idea but the mana double seem like the most expensive aspect of the deck. Or should I just go for MBC route.
I personally hate it, it feels like one of those card that says you know that board state has been developed? Naw, forget that unless you are also running blue to counter it and it lets that player basically kill a player on the spot
As much as I like deathrite, (I'm maining a playset of him in Junk Tokens) I often feel like he has so many options but most of the time my mana curve is so tight, I don't bother to start use him, (Not many people run fetchlands in our area) until turn 4 usually turn 5, hes nice and can do that last couple of points of damage or disruption
I'm curious guys, while pump infect seems to be a thing, would a more attrition/control infect be viable? I know it sort of ruins the idea of a quick win, but it seems like it would be a lot more stable and make it harder to sideboard against
Karona Avatar Tribal because she is an Avatar so she will pump herself in your deck.
This, I actually tried building this but I quickly realized I didn't have the avatars or the manabase to try it. I would love to see it someday through even if its only online.
Entreat the Angels, its one of those cards that has had my always curious with its release. My assumption is its great board advantage to get on turn 4 or greater. But aside from that its mostly useless. Maybe as a singleton in our deck? I tried searching the thread but I saw only one person who has tried it deck list wise, It saved my life once while play testing on cockatrice turning a lost into an unexpected win. Anyways just curious of what you guys think?
Gideon because hes just a bro, all the rest of the planeswalkers generally are I can do all this cool stuff but you gotta protect me or help protect, but Gideon is just takes the hits for you then hits back by himself, doesn't summon anyone else like most. I don't know what he is like story wise but I think hes a cool guy.
thats a good question, the next question is to ask why does it leave a 3/3 beast token whenever it leaves the battlefield. Are the beast tokens baby Thragtusk?
One of my friends who I got into magic has been talking of making a deck based off of gambling inspired by the anime Kaiji an show basically about gambling and living on the edge. Has anyone made a deck like this. Coin flip seems to be an obvious mechanic to build around but are their any more more complex decks that aren't just 50/50?
