Collonade is great, and this conversation is a great example of the pitfalls of small sample size analysis. If I don't activate my tar pit or colonnade in the next ten drafts, those cards aren't suddenly 'bad', it's just how the situations played out in this small subset of games featuring those cards. But these cards aren't universally acclaimed because they're overrated but because--in the grand scheme of things--being a guildgate is less of a detriment than the pros of being a dual and a manland provide.
You can template it “you may return target creature to their owners hand”.
Not talking about the mandatory bounce, just opponent specific clause.
The problem arises when you lose a game on MODO to misclicking both your own creature and the 'yes' for answering the may clause. With things like wi-fi lag and whatever else could be locally or server side, that's an easy thing to account for on something that will be drafted + played every time it shows up in a pack and is relevant across two softwares.
Nope. Being able to fix your mana predictably vastly, vastly outweighs the off chance of hitting a cool utility land just when you need it. And I’ve whiffed enough times with Satyr Wayfinder to know that even finding a land is not guaranteed.
At least in a number of decks it's almost impossible to 'miss' with wayfinder due to GY interactions. When you miss with this, you just played 2G for a 1/1.
'Target Player' is nice too, as a lot of the hosers end up screwing your own stuff a percent of the time. I'm a fan, I'm not sure the ability is relevant enough but starting with a Mistral Charger isn't a bad place to be.
One of the big pros with Alesha is that, when I can't pay the cost, a 3/2 first striker is a pretty legit creature in combat. While it's definitely easier to pay this cost, it's also a bit tough to send this in and feel like I'm not forcing an attack to recur something.
Also unlike Alesha, CMC is generally worse than power. Paying 2 to get an angel of invention back? Good. Paying 5? Can be good, but obviously a lot worse. CMC and a bad combat body might be the end for this guy. But at the same time, it also seems pretty decent in a low-to-mid curve deck.
The real reason is probably more due to gameplay and how newer players miss that Man-O-War can target itself. Nothing turns you off from a game more than losing due to confusion. The 'may' is probably not in there in case you have opportunities to miss click online in MTGA and MODO. Two different but real gameplay problems in terms of learning curve, which is MODO's most important demographic to target.
A piker with a free shock might be one of the best creatures of all time, especially one with one of the best tribal synergies. A 2 mana chupacabra that hits PWers and players would be awesome, but not within the realm of reality.
I like it. Worse body than Marauders, but same damage output and it actually stays around. Im going to try that and see how relevant that is, as its only 1 less damage with 1 attack than Marauders.
Also when you are hitting walkers with this effect, its probably generally better to do 2 dmg once v spread out. This kills a liliana at 2, marauders doesn't.
The sickest combo with Scavenging Ghoul
