Talnin places his 50 gold onto the counter. As he skims the contract, Talnin notices that quite a bit of it is a little arcane to him, but he feels comfortable that he understands enough of it. After inspecting the quill to make sure that it's not one of those ones he heard about that syphons the user's blood, he signs the contract and hands them back to the clerk.
Ugh, that's a depressing video - and I'm already quite paranoid about my cards :p.
As for the OP's case, it is indeed surprising that a 26-year-old working for WotC, even if only in a minor capacity, would feel compelled to steal from them. You'd think pretty much anyone would just be grateful for the opportunity.
Saturday Morning Nostalgia? I'm still reliving it!
There's plenty of shows out there that made me feel all nostalgic ^^.
Most recently, 'Sym-bionic Titan' - the new show by Genndy Tartakovsky. It's got kids fighting giant monsters in a giant robot while going to high school. Doesn't get much more Saturday Morning than that :p.
Even if the chin IS different, it doesn't necessarily mean that the person in the new art couldn't be Glissa. Different artists will illustrate the same character in their own way. Of course, they adhere to the style guide so that we can recognise who that character is, but it's not so precise that making the chin just a little bit different is going to make a difference.
Hunh, I was hoping that there was a recent official stance on this somewhere that's more clear-cut than some of the descriptions in the novels :p.
Thanks anyway, to you guys for your input :).
I myself tend to believe that it's creating a magical copy of the original as opposed to spiriting away someone from their home plane, but that's just me :p. Obviously, in the case of Legends, that theory wouldn't apply - it'd be the second case whereby you actually summon the original :p.
At first, Talnin just wandered around the city at street level, not wanting to enter any specific building just yet, but reveling in the simple excitement of being part of such a vast metropolis. The markets back home were but the play-things of children next to the bazaars in Estark.
When at last Talnin did investigate some stores, he found that his paltry 50 gold was inadequate for much that the city had to offer. I'd better store this in that bank I saw earlier, thought Talnin. I might as well keep it safe if I have no immediate use for it.
Upon entering Greel's Savings and Loans, Talnin couldn't help but let his jaw slack. The building's depressing facade belied its grandeur, and Talnin had the distinct impression that it was much bigger on the inside than it looked from the outside. It was like the ancient cathedrals he heard about, yet there was something just a little 'off' about this place.

Talnin makes his way slowly to the nearest teller, as he takes his time soaking in the austere atmosphere of the place, with its constant banter which sounds like whispers as it echoes off the halls. In his mind, he fancies that it almost sounds like prayers.
Finally, it is his turn in line.
Talnin walks up to the teller and says "I'd like to leave a deposit, please. 50 gold." Then, remembering what he overhead someone in another line being told, Talnin quickly adds "Oh, and I don't have an account with you fellows yet."

An averagely-built, tan-skinned, brown-eyed teenage boy with brown hair which he doesn’t bother keeping particularly neat. Talnin wears a vest with pouches for various medical remedies, fingerless gloves, and carries a wumpus-skin sling bag where he keeps his personal effects.
He has a likeable albeit somewhat mischievous-looking face, and carries himself with youthful confidence.
Concept sketch:
Background, pre-Estark
As one of the few people capable of utilising magic in his community, Talnin spent most of his years apprenticing alongside the town’s high cleric. Although there was no denying that the boy’s heart was in the right place and that he was a natural in protective and healing magics, Talnin was always restless.
He longed for a life with adventure and imagined himself as a practitioner of ‘frontier magical medicine’, where he could learn more about both his abilities and the rest of the world.
Finally, when he was 16, Talnin was kicked out of the town (not permanently, though) for giving the high cleric a little too much cheek. The general consensus was that Talnin was both old enough and responsible enough to take care of himself. And after all, what could be the harm with a little character-building time in the city of Estark?
"Thank you, my good sir!" exclaims Talnin as he reclaims his papers, stuffs them into his bag, and hurriedly leaves the checkpoint, heading into the city.
I really like Tezzeret and Chandra in particular :]. The zippity-zap of those flames is just so fun to look at :p.
EDIT: Just noticed your Venser, too :p. You may want to consider NOT using spoiler tags because if you're just skimming through the thread, it can be easy to miss :P. It's so cute how Venser doesn't give a hoot that he's going to a world that's being invaded by Phyrexians - he's just so happy about teleporting all over the place^^.
"Finally! So this is it...the city of Estark," remarks the young man who approaches the Mage registration checkpoint. He hands the guard his papers while grinning in anticipation.

This is a bit more of a 'lore' than storyline question, but this seemed like the most appropriate forum to ask it in.
I was just wondering - what are the creatures we summon in duels, exactly?
If I'm on Ravnica and I summon 2 Kithkin from Lorwyn, are those Kithkin just created out of the aether? Or are there 2 less Kithkin in Lorwyn?
Are those Kithkin non-sentient beings? Are they merely 'imitation' Kithkin that do my every bidding? Or did they have a life (even family) before they were abruptly summoned to a different world to fight and possibly die for me?
I'm not entirely sure how it works - if someone could clarify that'd be great :P.
I don't get all the people who say that Karn looks sad at being turned (or in the process of being turned) into the new Father of Machines - Karn ALWAYS looks sad :p. That's the only expression his face can do...well, also 'angry' if he's tilted slightly forward as he is in this artwork ^^.
I really don't get where everyone is seeing the Phyrexian influence in that Neurok chick, though. I'm very confident that that's just art for a regular Mirran-aligned equipment. I mean, the skullclamp-looking thing may not be Phyrexian since skullclamp itself is Mirran (or would be if it were printed in Scars).
And earlier in this thread, I noticed that someone thought that that Vulshok was riding a Phyrexian horse. Makes me kinda wish that they could have had Phyrexia invade some other plane, where the differences are a lot more obvious to people who don't follow the story too closely.
I know that when I show people who stopped playing Magic before Mirrodin (or started playing after Mirrodin), they can have trouble immediately identifying which art would belong to which faction.
