posted a message on Mass Land Destruction is Always Okay
I was playing in a game on MTGO, and one guy who was about to lose cast Armageddon just for troll's sake. A bit of convincing and he got kicked with it on the stack. Oh, the rage after that...

The main reason I frown on mass-LD and don't run any is that I don't want to be in a position to ruin someone's play experience. Yeah, you could have a Spiky playgroup who will love the extra tension of trying to topdeck lands to recover. But you could also have the kid who barely modified his precon and will sit in bewildered misery for the next 5+ turns waiting for a land.
In a game meant for enjoyment, I try never to kill anyone's fun. And with mass-LD, you could very well be doing that.

posted a message on Culling collection for Commander - what to keep?
I love using cards that people have to pick up and read because no one plays them, so definitely be on the lookout for that.

Anything that says 'each opponent' has a good shot at being useful somewhere. The amount of damage that Lobber Crew has done for me is amazing!

Other than that, think utility creatures that are bad in other formats with more cheap spot removal. The earlier point about Lightning Bolt was a good one, and that includes most spells of that kind. Less cheap removal means drawbacks like 'it's just a 1/1' are less of a drawback. I played a hilarious game last week where Intrepid Hero killed 5-6 'bombs' before a wrath happened.

    And always, unexpected = value.

posted a message on What trait bothers you most about an opponent?
I have to admit, when I evoke some nerd rage over card choices I feel a perverse satisfaction. However, if it goes too far it can definitely be annoying.

I was in a Theros full block draft on MTGO and first picked Daring Thief, which led to some very strange card priorities going forward. The first guy I played went insane when I swapped my Ephara's Radiance for his Thassa, God of the Sea, and it just got worse from there.
He went very abusive as he lost, and I poked the bear with an "I win, and you do that other thing...".
He then proceeded to go into the between rounds chat to try and tell everyone what I had in my deck, which was a bit over the top.

posted a message on [[Official]] Modern Extreme Budget Deck Challenge!
This is my only Modern deck, and it has an absurd win percentage.
When I first started playing, I fell in love with Raid Bombardment. Thus I have had at least one deck with it featured the entire time.
Plus the synergy with the Spitfire is insane.

    It shows as $6.74, and $10.14 w/sideboard.

I just won a match online against a $1000 deck (estimate) despite 2 Kor Firewalkers being out in game 3. Smile

posted a message on Meanest play you've ever done
I had a really mean combo Animar, Soul of Elements deck when he first came out, and I did this in the last game I played with it.
Lots of counters on Animar, people getting desperate but I had run out of cards to cast.
On my turn, I draw Weird Harvest, and cast it for a bunch.
Everyone thinks I'm insane as they cackle gleefully and pull all their best stuff.

I dump the creatures I searched for into play and then Windfall

Not too many happy faces that day... Rolleyes

posted a message on So what is the point of commander?
The point of EDH is to have fun, and in that sense that you ruined the other players' fun, which is wrong. That said, if what you did ruined their fun, there was no way they were going to have fun unless they were allowed to do anything they wanted. In essence, you were placed in a position where there was no 'right' way to play except to meekly lose.
That said, this is a very small snapshot of a game so we can't really evaluate it that well. The game gap between 'Ruination turn 4' and 'Firecat Blitz for 50' seems very large. It would be interesting to know what was happening in the meantime to get a full picture.

I personally don't run MLD in any of my 16 decks, unless you count Land Equilibrium, which I don't. This is based on my personal feelings rather than right vs. wrong. Nothing is worse for me in any format of magic than being mana-screwed, so inflicting that on a player in a non-competitive setting would be abhorrent to me.
Options like Blood Moon or Hall of Gemstone can slow people down enough without full-on screwing them in my opinion.
