Damn Wyvern, that's a bummer that you won't mod this thread anymore.
But like i told you, i would gladly update the primer to the new meta, and make it neater to see.
Don't worry - you guys have been keeping the ball rolling just fine without me. I'm not too concerned. And I'm sure at some point I'll saunter back in to say hi and add a nugget or two about whatever crappy LE build I'm running.
Seeing as how this thread is a million pages long, and I haven't played a game of sanctioned Modern in eight months, does someone want to reboot the primer and start a new thread? Not gonna lie, it's cool seeing my name at the top of this nonsense, but the primer has gone stale with regards to its matchups, and my life has taken enough turns and gotten suitably complicated to the point where it's a disservice to you all not to be involved here anymore.
Do note that if they’ve cast a U spell, trap can target any other spell that turn. I’ve redirected a surgical to my opponent’s cryptic command in response to an Opt that was responding to my Outburst on the stack. GG in that one
Even better is when they forget that Ricochet Trap can be cast for 3R.
"Terminate your Cerodon-"
"How about you Terminate your Tasigur, instead?"
I'm really confused by what to make of Jace entering the format. He's never been here before, so we have no data on what decks looked like with him. He probably, however, incentivizes more counterspells in control decks and ones with a slightly more top end focused approach. So we could be in for something like the old UWR days of yore when they could only kill you with Colonnade.
There were Jace decks in Extended when Living End first became a thing. Granted, a few of them are no longer decks (Dark Depths), but it's a place to start.
1 - No, you should not run BBE in your Living End deck. Move on. Yes I know it can hit a cascade into violent outburst into LE, giving you a board full of junk and a 3/2 haste. Most of the time it wont and most of the time its dead. Youll hit Simian Spirit guides and beast withins quite a lot. It is not the direction we need to go in.
I showed up again just to reiterate this, but you beat me to it.
EDIT: I added some notes on BBE to the primer so hopefully we won't have to keep talking about it every six weeks.
Do you suspect that the results from Columbus will result in any last-minute changes to your deck, Ken? I'm talking besides the potential 3rd Blood Moon you mentioned above.
I think that, once people see you go off with Azor's Gateway the first time, they make damn sure you won't do it again. Think of it like the Quest cycles from Zendikar and Worldwake.
Also, to answer your thoughts on Razaketh and Axis of Mortality - I don't own a Raz, he's on my acquire list. As for Axis... well, I cracked a foil out of a pack, you see...
So let’s get some of the questionable decisions out of the way:
Axis of Mortality and Debtors’ Knell – These are essentially the Bubbles and Buttercup to True Conviction’s Blossom in the realm of “haymaker enchantments” to nab in the event of Academy Rector’s untimely demise. Both of them are on trial status, since they are somewhat dependent on what the rest of the table is doing to be effective, but I’d be lying if I said they didn’t appeal to my inner Timmy.
Gray Merchant of Asphodel – Right… so this isn’t a devotion deck. But this serves as a way to win the game when combat isn’t an option (prison mirrors are fuuunnnn). A few activations with the help of Cloudstone Curio or Skybind can go a long way.
Underworld Coinsmith – Very clearly an underpowered card in a battlecruiser format – I have no excuse for its inclusion, other than I like it. Incremental lifegain can occasionally keep your head above water if you’ve got Necro in play, I guess.
Faith’s Reward – Largely because I haven’t stumbled upon a Teferi’s Protection, but this is still a card that people refuse to play around. Affectionately called “Ctrl+Z” by myself and nobody else. I don’t get my token army back, but I got to put Skybind and about six thousand enchantments back on the table. Guess who’s blinking his tapped lands and making a fresh army on your end step!
Much like Daxos, reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
Also, what Raver said - there will be targets. Literally the only time I've ever cast Demonic Dread on a target that I put on the board myself is against Bogles, and that's not even really a thing anymore.
Put your hand done and update this primer!
Update it with what, exactly? I know the banner is ancient, but I've had the APB for a new one out for a few months now.
I haven't done much with matchups because I haven't been playing a whole lotta modern lately (and I'm sure a lot of you have noticed that I'm not around as much as I used to - new job has MTGS blocked ). If someone wants to step up and volunteer some new blurbs, I'll toss it in there.
New cards - did it already.
I was hoping for the new cards which I hadn't check in a minute, so I'm glad those are in there. I think a few of us can perhaps write up some matchup info. Any preference on how to receive it?
You can just send them through PM and I'll stitch them into the primer with a name credit.

My biggest gripe with Anger of the Gods is that it's a sorcery, which really limits its functionality as a sweeper against Company decks. Dead // Gone may not be great against them either, but it's at least an instant.
The other thing you could do with that slot is play a 4th copy of Living End - I've done that a few times as an "extra chance" against control decks and it wasn't terrible. Frees up a couple sideboard slots to fight burn, too.

Haven't been around much of late (kinda stepped back from MtG to focus on other things) but I'm slowly coming back.

Beseech the Queen – Yep. Still here. Nope, still no Demonic Tutor.
Underworld Coinsmith – Very clearly an underpowered card in a battlecruiser format – I have no excuse for its inclusion, other than I like it. Incremental lifegain can occasionally keep your head above water if you’ve got Necro in play, I guess.

Dryad Arbor, you guys. Way less dangerous to run an Arbor than Forbidden Orchard.
