@Eidolon232: That's a great list you posted, I'm actually surprised that some of those weren't on my list to begin with. (Which is exactly why I decided to post this in the first place) I'll definitely be making some changes now.
Now to figure out what exactly I should cut to fit these cards in... Any recommendations on some card-for-card swaps?
@wtwlf123 & Zerin Karamoff: The number of gold/hybrid cards I included was definitely something I meant to ask about. At first, I was just looking for some even numbers to fill out my Cube, but now that I've seen it actually written out, I wanna fix it up.
So would you recommend cutting some of the gold and hybrid (I'll admit, I was stretching things a bit to fill up some spots) for more Mono-Colored goodness, or keep all the gold, but focus more on allied pairs, which do have quite a few more choice commons to choose from?
I was thinking something like:
-1 each Gold combination (10)
-1 each Allied hybrid (5)
-2 each Enemy hybrid (10)
This would give me room for another 5 cards in each color while cutting some of the chaff I had to include to meet my first set of numbers.
Also what do you guys think of the Blade cycle from Alara Reborn? I threw them in as something interesting and they're far from horrible, I just don't know if they've got the support they need to be consistently good.
Of course Las Vegas is the place to be for glamor, glitz and scantily clad showgirls... but what do you do when the tables just aren't kind and those slots eat up your last quarter?
Play Pauper Magic of course!
I've always loved budget Magic in all its forms and this cube is no different. It brings the best of the best black expansions symbols (and plenty without) together in one neat, little white box. More cards is more fun in my opinion so the cube's currently set to run up to 10 players, though this is mostly to keep the picks varied from one 8 man draft to another.
As of now, the Cube runs through Alara Reborn. Once I get some advice, I'll add anything of note from M10 (Doom Blade comes to mind) and make more changes, or possibly wait for Zendikar for a big update.
This is only my first run through a cube, so the numbers might be a bit off at first, but this is why I'm coming to you guys for advice. Thanks to anyone who can help us out! I'll be getting the spreadsheet as well as an analysis and possibly pictures once it's all settled, sleeved and ready to go.
It may be a pit pricey, but maybe Living Wish could be of some use? It'll let you put some of the more specific use Slivers (Harmonic Sliver or Spinneret Sliver) in your "sideboard" and pull them out if necessary.
Granted this may be too slow for your deck, but it's another option.
Here's my version I recently built, it's somewhat of a mix between a control/reanimator style Sphinx deck. The most expensive card is Sharuum the Hegemon but he's only two or three bucks and could be replaced by another reanimation card if you really wanted.
Trust me, I'd love to include some power cards like those in my deck, but since they're sitting in other decks of mine, (It's too much of a hassle for me to swap cards between decks) this is me making due with what I can.
I still appreciate your input and any budget recommendations are well appreciated =D
the only change i'd make would be to the bane of living. maybe decree of pain.
plague boiler is a little slow. does nevinyrral's disk count as budget? wall of roots over vine trelis. but once again is it budget?
Thanks, I love making budget decks so I'm glad this one came out well.
Bane of the Living is included for several reasons:
-He's good early game. Playing him as a Morph turn 3, then flipping him over for 4 on Turn 4 can wipe most early creatures off the board, easily allowing you to catch up
-His ability scales. The later my game goes, the more mana I'll be able to dump into his ability and kill stuff.
-He beats for four. This is great considering I'm low on finishers. I can't think of many other creatures that can serve his dual purpose.
Wall of Roots is a great card, don't get me wrong, but with the same price tag as Sakura-Tribe Elder, I'd rather have the elder's land fetching ability. Vine Trellis does its job easily enough, though I will admit it's one of the weaker cards in the deck.
Thanks for the responses though, I'll keep everything in mind.
So since my tabletop metagame is pretty much entirely creature based (Several tribal decks, creature swarms, etc.) I decided to make something to handle them... and decided to make it budget 'cause that's my style (~$40 is budget to me).
This deck had 21 ways of killing creatures, 9 of which are sweeping effects to handle the mass amounts of weenies. Save your pinpoint removal for when it counts.
There's a small bit of hand control present, mostly as a precaution to take care of unanswerable creatures (Akroma the first, untargetables, etc.) and 6 ways of taking care of those random pesky Artifacts/Enchantments that have a habit of showing up on the kitchen table.
Gleancrawler's my finisher of choice for his awesome ability to recur the few creatures I do have, plus he's just insane with Shriekmaw and cheap. Necravolver is another finisher I've been considering, but not sure where I'd make room.
In a pinch, Crime/Punishment can nab you something tasty to finish of the table with.
I'll probably be building this soon so any advice is appreciated. I know I could easily throw some legit cards into this and make it more competitive, but I wanted to keep it cheap and try out some cards I've never used before.
Is there anything else that I could use in the meantime? Fetches are definitely on my list of things to get, since I have Meathooks built minus the lands at the moment.
So after some work and a few purchases, I've managed to update my old Stax-esque Pox deck into the version above.
I'm wondering on a few of the card choices and where I should go from here, and what else I should try to invest in.
I know I should probably get another 2 Wasteland to finish out my packaged, and maybe another Urborg. A single Tomb of Urami seems like it would be a nice alternate win condition and I could probably use an Undiscovered Paradise for the Retrace tricks.
The Rituals are iffy, sometimes they help accel into something like a Crucible or Tombstalker, other times they're just Pox fodder... not sure if I should replace them with something else like Mox Diamond, but I'd have to save up for those. Is there anything else worthwhile for this spot? Maybe some more removal like Innocent Blood or Smother?
I've really been liking the Night's Whispers since this deck seems to burn its hand inadvertently, but I'll admit the life loss hurts at times. Again, is there something else I could use in this slot instead?
Thanks again for your help, I'd like to keep playing this deck if I can keep it competative enough, it's really fun for some reason =)
Death Denied is another good one that was simply overlooked... CHK Block really didn't have much going for it.
Now to figure out what exactly I should cut to fit these cards in... Any recommendations on some card-for-card swaps?

VPC Breakdown:
60x - Mono (300 Total)
5x - Gold (50 Total)
4x - Hybrid (40 Total)
5 - Gold Hybrid
50- Artifact
50- Land
495 Total Cards - Will cut to 450

Maybe this'll give you a few ideas =)
Trust me, I'd love to include some power cards like those in my deck, but since they're sitting in other decks of mine, (It's too much of a hassle for me to swap cards between decks) this is me making due with what I can.
I still appreciate your input and any budget recommendations are well appreciated =D
Leyline of the Void might be an interesting card to include, though you would have to consider mulliganing agressively to get it in your opening hand.
Your other option would be to include black cards like Carrion Wurm and Withered Wretch but it's up to you which direction you wanna take the deck in.

-He beats for four. This is great considering I'm low on finishers. I can't think of many other creatures that can serve his dual purpose.
-He's cheap. Easily found for under a dollar.
Nevinyrral's Disk is pretty pricey compared to Plague Boiler, hence why it wasn't included.

So after some work and a few purchases, I've managed to update my old Stax-esque Pox deck into the version above.
I'm wondering on a few of the card choices and where I should go from here, and what else I should try to invest in.
