With the banning of deathrite shaman in legacy does anyone think a price hike on noble hierarch is likely ? I had noticed that noble had basically been replaced by deathrite in every list applicable but now, just like modern, noble is back to being the king mana dork
Any version of Tron can win ! I won't bother to post my GB list cause I haven't sleeved it up in a while but from my experience... dismember > push and collective brutality is the best black card in the 75
I've been struggling to answer that question myself. In my meta there's a lot of company and hallowone decks so I'm prone to play graffdiggers cage. In a large, unknown meta I would imagine surgical extraction is the strongest pick.
Relic has always felt a little slow to me, and easier for opponents to play around and the only value I ever saw in crypt was playing it under a chalice on 1.
He's fantastic if he's built around a little like you said, but he is by no means necessary. Depends what you want in that 4-drop slot. New Karn ends the game if he goes unchecked against midrange and control, but in some metas something like Thought-Knot Seer would be much more useful. Personally, I love the 3-rock, 1-2 New Karn builds and I'm gonna keep playing him but for example my last FNM was Burn, Bogles, Burn, Ad Nauseum, Drop Rnd 5 and I wished he was literally any other card in those matchups.
I love looking at the new Karn lists on paper but in reality we already crush midrange and have strong game against control. I'm skeptical it's the direction I want to go
On paper it doesn't look like it shuts down the deck in that big of a way. They still have to discard to hit reality smasher or blast a TKS with it in response to the ETB trigger. You lose a bit of value on reshaper but aside from that I don't think I'd stress it too much.
It's also a very narrow card, and I can't see most decks devoting more than like 2 SB slots to it
Thanks for that ! I've been playing the deck for sometime now but that was definitely enjoyable to read and realized I've been overlooking a couple utility cards to fight my meta.
On a similar note, I just recalled there was a premium article on SCG people were talking about a while back about ponza. Does anyone know if that article is free to read now / have a link ?
Do you think Jace, the midsculptor will get cheaper in the next 4-6 months?
I follow its price in mkm and he's been 70-75 euros for more than 2 months.
Certainly... he already is getting cheaper. Fetch printings like WW and FTV will probably hold steady, but EM / A25 printings can be picked up in the 70-75 range off of TCG at this very moment. If you buy cards off the Facebook groups a good deal with land you at about 65$.
Jace didn't turn out to be the boogeyman everyone thought he would be... far from it actually and Jeskai / Teferi just had a really solid weekend in Louisville. A writer at modern nexus touched upon the subject well:
Jace needs to be built around and supported because he is fragile. Jace will take over a game as few other walkers can if left unchallenged, but with Lightning Bolt‘s resurgence that is very unlikely. Teferi is not as powerful as Jace, but he is easier to wield. Jace’s best mode adds no loyalty, unlike Teferi, but Teferi also allows you to tap out and then protect him during the opponent’s turn. This is a huge plus in Teferi’s favor, as ease of use frequently beats raw power
I played around with the noble moon thing for a while but after making various changes over time I was basically back to a worse version of ponza. The deck pretty much NEEDS to have 3 mana on turn 2 and for that to happen consistently you need 7-8 mana dorks. Turn 1 noble/birds tended to be a lot easier for my opponents to disrupt than utopia sprawl and that slowed me down a lot. If I didn't have a dork or the bird got bolted I ended up with a turn 2 goyf which really didn't interact or do anything.
If there was a two drop that actually provided some sort of actual disruption I think the noble moon route would be more viable but without it just felt clunky and slower.
Also, splashing white for the sideboard in theory seems as easy as throwing in a temple garden. This gives you a fetchable white source, 4 sprawl, and 2 birds . I imagine that'd be enough to cast a rest in peace
I meant interaction in any form whatsoever really whether it is counterspells or removal. As FanTan pointed out, epiphany is going to sit as a dead card the majority of the time. It looks good from afar, but when I play with it I'm consistently disappointed.
Given those changes I think the list looks really cool though and I'm interested to hear how it works for you. I've never run the gifts package but always wanted to give it a shot. It's just so damn hard to cut even a single card to make room for it

In all reality though, I'd love to see that list. I've only played against Karn in drafts so far but he really does do quite a lot
