I've had stompy as a joke deck with my friends play group, now it has turned into something a little more competitive. I wanted to know if anyone ever considered the interaction with Greenbelt Rampager and Experiment one\Pelt Collector? I apologize if this has already been discussed I currently run 4 PC, 2 EO 1, 2 Dryad Militant, and 2 Rampager with some great results and some mixed.
Took it to my LGS and came third going 3 and 1. Only losing to Tron 2 0, but also going 6 and 0 for the rest of the match. Faced Stompy, BR Discard, and Mardu Pyromancer. Let me know what you guys think.
Hey drmarkb, I remember you from the RW lockdown modern thread, we seem to have similar tastes in decks:). Anyways, I reviewed your decks and read your posts I like them for the most part. I don't have humility or moat so that combo is out of the question. I have edited my list with your advice.
To answer your questions I want a geddon white stax, but I have found that mud stax maybe better. But white offers more protection in my eyes and I feel is stronger for my meta.
Hey guys, gonna necro this thread. I am competing in some upcoming legacy events, and want to hear people's opinions on stax, any advice? I'll post my list later.
I want see if I can fit in anymore buried ruin, karns/Elspeth, maybe another inventors fair. I also want to see if I fit in Rishadan Port and Sorcerous Spyglass
Recently I have been running Lost Legacy MB with great results. Only as a 1 of but I would like two of them. For the most part I use it on myself, targeting some sort of useless card. Against game 1 Affinity for example I top decked it at low health targeting wrench mind, drawing 3 cards (I run 3 mb), and then proceeded to retake the game. Just an idea of course
Oh, how I have returned. Our worst match ups are Control and Combo.
Control is bad because they put our creatures in a bind with kill spells (bolts, paths, electrolyze etc). They also play the tempo game which is hard for us to get around because we can't build a solid board state. According to MTGTop8; UWx Midrange, UW Control, and Mardu Midrange are very painful decks to fight.
Combo is bad because if we can't kill the opponent by turn 3-4, they have a higher chance of going off with whatever combo is around. According to MTGTop8; Dredge, Scapeshift, Creatures toolbox and UW storm have the potential to just go off at usually by that point, preventing us from winning.
Boarding is pretty redudant when it comes to a deck like goblins considering we don't have any draw. Having 2s and 1s of doesn't really make a whole lot of sense because we want to see the cards in hand more often in order to help us win. 3-4s make a lot more sense because as I stated, seeing the card in your opening hand is a key to winning. That being said, I do not think that Kari Zev's Expertise should only be a 2-3, because it costs a lot of mana, where if we are casting a 3CMC spell it better win us the game or pretty close to it (we really just curve out at 3CMC for our deck).
I have yet to suit up my old 8whack list so unfortunately I can't give you the latest SB options. The sideboard is always based around your current meta.
Combo
Dredge is always countered by grave hate, anything along the lines of Tormod's Crypt or Relic of Progenitus works for the most part. Make sure you get them opening hand.
Scapeshift is tough, its sometimes an auto loss depending on the deck. My only reccomendation is rushing them quickly game 1, and be more conservative games 2-3 because of the creature removal being boarded in. I suppose Kari Zev's Expertise could be useful to take Primeval Titan but really theres not a lot you can do sideboard wise for this matchup.
UW Storm has become so strong since Baral, Chief of Compliance. Graveyard hate is key against this deck. A Crypt or Relic at the right time could be deveasting at times. But them going off on turn 3 is also a paddling.
Creatures Toolbox is easy game 1 because they don't have the tools(Didn't even mean for that to happen:)) to stop us. Games 2 and 3 are much different. Burrenton Forge-Tender and Kitchen Finks combos are not fun to deal with. Gravehate and Anti life gain options are great against the deck but its still not easy. Unless they stall out for some reason, they can control your board and gain constant life.
Control
UW Control, UWx Midrange, Mardu Midrange are pretty much the same much up, kill your creatures, stall out the game, and watch yourself die slowly. Blood Moon and Anti life gain is my recommendation, but its tough no matter what the match is.
That's all I really have, I apologize for being a bit vague at times, I'm not 100% up to speed on the current meta, but I hope this helped you out a bit
So an average burn list (according to mtgtop8.com), is running roughly 14-18 creatures. Is that really enough merit to include Profane Memento as the only source for life gain against burn outside of Crypt Incursion? Idk about you guys, but I feel that any aggro and burn are our hardest match ups next to the new Emrakul/Nahiri combo decks going around. I just can't see Profane or Crypt helping us against burn at all when less than a 1/4 of the opponent's deck is creatures. Maybe im doing something wrong? I'll have to test out Esper mill again and see how well that plays out because JinLin's list has been the most successful mill list I have seen in a long while.
I run 4 LotV(Leyline of the Void) in the sideboard and the only problem I have had is with scapeshift nahiri...That matchup is tough.
Any Nahiri combo it's just a matter of how fast you can rid yourself of that emrakul. Odds are the first games a loss but with extirpate/surgical and LotV you should have no trouble with the rest. Early game Crabs/Manic scribes could help, as well as Jace's Phantasm
Jund is tough because it's everything we don't want to see. I am still trying to figure out the best sideboard options for that match
What about countersquall? Another great counter for dimir colors. What is everyone's sideboard looking like these days? I feel cards such as Hurkyl's Recall, Crypt Incursion, and Echoing Truth are always my auto includes when it comes to mill...for me anyway.

This is a late reply. But Dredge isn't as bad as you think...ok game one is bad. But Crypt Incursion, Profane Memento, Rest in Peace, and Surgical Extraction make this a much better match up in games 2 and 3.
