the merfolk could function like the Saprazzans did in Masques; they're higher-evolved merfolk with the ability to walk on land and revert to "fishtails" in water. I wouldn't disclose it entirely or take what Wizards says as verbatim. I mean, they've done some sneaky things before so I wouldn't be too reliant on their policies.

Jan 31, 2005There'll probably be another fighting style mechanic (Bushido in Champions, Ninjutsu in Betrayers, Jujitsu for Saviours?). Usually the third set counteracts the themes of the previous two sets so we should expect something that gives the finger to spirits and arcane-based spells.Posted in: Speculation
Jan 31, 2005:dance2: I still say it's going to be Orcs. I mean, we haven't had any legit orcs (excluding Ultimus) since Weatherlight and it's hightime we had some nosepickers kicking around. Kobolds would be cool considering they do tend to be scavengers, and in this environment it is the perfect setting for them to be present in. They are sneaky and more or less intellegent than Goblins...so that leads to some idea that they may be kicking around sooner or later.Posted in: Speculation
And for some reason I think the expansion symbol will be circular, resembling a ring of some sort. :dance2::lock:

It has to be either Orcs, Kobolds, Merfolk, or Thallids. Merfolk are sort of out of the question unless they've evolved like the Saprazzans have and can shift form to come onto land. Maybe they've got underwater cities as well. Just because this plane is "city-covered" doesn;'t mean there'll be cities in different geographical locations or inserted in geological formations.
Now Orcs are a possibility. Remember the Kyren, a more intellegent and sneaky version of the standard goblin. The last true non-reprinted-in-a-base-set Orc we had was Orchish Settlers from Weatherlight. It's funny really, over the weekend I kept having these odd mental visions of why we haven't seen orcs in a while. Maybe it's high time they did make a debut. Only this time make them more playable (the settlers was the last attempt at making them somewhat playable from their inferior cousins in FE and IA).
Thallids? Come on, who doesn't like sentient fungus? I mean, wouldn't you love it if some dork was threatening to cut down the trees on your property and the moss/mould grown on it suddenly rose to beat the living cajools out of the mofos? That'd be sweeeettt...
