    I agree w/the Squirrel.

SSS for pure efficiency and jaw-droppingness. HM to Voidslime, cute, but not quite my favorite.

Very solid card. If this is anything other than Uncommon, it'd be a rather sorry state of affairs...

It's hard to believe that the game's come so far that Volcanic Hammer is the yardstick--that card is just awful. Even Char didn't get me that excited...

Nice to get some real juice in a CORE set for a change...hope this is representative of the overall power level. It'd be really nice to have a CORE set that wasn't chock full of meh cards for a change. 10th would be a good time to do it folks...

I agree that most (on this site) seem to be liberal. I can't speak for the entire community, but it should be fairly close to the country as a whole which at the moment appears to be fairly 50/50.

I agree that it is largely due to age.

I think this phenomenon is somewhat driven by not enough knowledge of history and inexperience.

It also has something to do with paying taxes, which young folks don't do as much as older people. The more taxes you pay, the more irritated you become when they find Love exciting, new Love ways to spend your hard-earned money. Increased taxation is historically the liberal thing to do, and drives folks to the right. This is nothing new.

Mods, feel free to move if approrpriate.

OK...this has got to be the first (and only) time I've ever seen this happen. I'm sure I'll never see it again.

    60 card deck, 20 lands, 40 non-land.

I drew a hand of 7 lands. I know it can happen, but what are the actual mathematical odds?

    Tks,
    M

    Funny sidebar:
(OK, so I lied...one guy in our group did this once a couple of years ago. But he had accidentally grabbed a pile of 60 lands by mistake. He actually kept the hand....and played the whole game without conceding before he lost.

Our friends in Australian have a figure of speech that comes to mind: farting sparks... Swear Trust me, he was.)

  • posted a message on The Worst Constructed Keywords Ever
Some abilities like Banding, 'XXXXXXhome', etc are probably on everyone's list. I will concede that the article was written w/constructed in mind...but that doesn't excuse some of his positions.

Kilnmouth Dragon can get utterly retarded in a properly built deck.

Shadow, while annoying, is very potent. Empyrial Armor People whine all the time about shadow. Get over it, play with it....and win--often. Besides, real men play Horsemanship anyway. Wink

I agree Morph is pretty lame. After a couple of matches, the 'surprise' value is completely nil. It was a neat concept though.

I agree Soulshift is pretty worthless, as was its predecessor(s), the Masques rebel cards.

Splice is quite potent in a deck built to maximize its ability... :symu:/:symr: Splice will just kick you in the snarglies.

Landwalk, while annoying, created an interesting flavor aspect. Do you find 'Cannot be blocked' or 'Cannot be the target of spells and abilities' to be as terrible? Somehow, I doubt it.

re: Storm & Amplify (EDIT: Affinity :)). Seems to me people ***** about underpowered mechanics. ...and then they still ***** when we get some real power. I just don't get it. Just because you may have been schooled (just like I do sometimes..) by it doesn't make it a bad mechanic, folks.

This article just didn't seem as thought-through as most we get. I'm sure the author will crank out a great one next time! Smile

I'll be honest..I wasn't really that excited by the first couple of cards. That said, this latest batch has me really, REALLY excited about Coldsnap. Some really interesting mechanics are being explored and I'm really digging the hell out of the art. Dance

  • posted a message on How long before the Dual Lands get reprinted?
My guess is you won't see them until the CORE set right before the next big multicolor block...about 5 years from now, if they stay on their current rotation of sets.

Certainly not anytime soon...but we'll just have to wait and see... Smile

ThornThallid and I are in 100% agreement on all counts....for completely the same reasons. Grin

However, if you're going to be playing against people who play Lobotomy type effects...it's actually smart to mix them up a bit. Ex: Elfball. I'd run 2x Fireball & 2x Blaze just in case they tried something like that. They'd only get 1/2 of my kill condition.

"Adding a 6th color to the color wheel" DOES NOT (and never did) EQUAL "Adding a 6th color"

The two phrases are completely different.

And I believe this thread was originally about the 2nd, NOT the 1st.

The 1st is not something they should not do. It would wreck the game.

The 2nd is something they likely WILL do at some point. Mark my words. Unibrow

Why do you want to keyword everything?

    Ummmm....because that's what they've been doing lately?

    Ex: Fear, Defender, Vigilance.

I would almost bet that 'Spiritlink' will THE NEXT keyword they announce, among the 'basics' that are left.

    Quote from pokerbob1 »
Plus there was also a big thing about going overboard with keywords already. Most of these are unnecessary and would only cause more confusion.

...and they just added 10 more in Ravnica, right? They're really taking this 'new approach' so seriously...

I do agree most of the original poster's suggestions are 'too much'.

I would agree with Spirit Link, Web, Lure. Attacker is a pretty good idea too...elegant. Smile

    I would rename a couple:

    Swift -> SwiftSummon or 'FlashCast'
Immunity is currently covered under Protection, no? "Protection from Opponents" would cover Immunity to Opponents, wouldn't it?

  • posted a message on Poll: How many Booster boxes have you bought in your life?
I've bought a box of boosters from every set since Invasion, excluding 9th. Probably close to 1 1/2 boxes for Fifth Dawn....mmmmm...good stuff.

This includes 4x Beatdown (VERY good investment), 1x Deckmasters, 1x Unhinged as well.

Will continue to do so...I'm fairly well committed at this point. Grin

I don't have a card box nearby but I'm pretty sure the 'Ages X-Y' on the box does not include 4 year olds. Sneaky The art is designed accordingly, imho.

I feel the overall quality has gone up during his tenure, but I also agree there's been to much homogenization and WAY too much reliance on the style guide (the cause).
