Zoltan Boros as "Popular Artist" is kinda meme.

Seb McKinnon seems like the best choice to me. Sneaky

I never knew a human arm could bend that way. It looks quite painful. Confused

Not sure I understand what that "Goaded" symbol is even supposed to represent. I would've chosen a stylized angry-looking face or two arrows pointing at eachother, joined in a collision. Like...something that references loss of control or just anger.

Feels like they had some options here but three random squiggles is what they chose to go with. Confused

Dude's so asking to be sued for this.

As fast as they are releasing sets now, I'm not sure anyone (Legal Dept) included will give a *****. Next set comes out next month after that. Just keep rolling... Pig on Bicycle

Well, I will play Devil's Advocate and say (in my mind) Gandalf as a Planeswalker makes very little sense to me flavorwise. He is a very powerful wizard. We have plenty of those and they are not Planeswalkers. If anything, I could definitely see them doing a flip card Legend for him.

Don't know why LotR actually needs Planeswalkers to be an interesting and successful set. Or any set, for that matter. Shrugs Hell, that would be a very nice gimmick for once. Let's see what happens to gameplay without them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Galspanic after hearing the news.

Good on Betty for outliving Galspanic, none of us thought it would happen

He may have departed this Forum years ago but rest assured he is alive and doing just fine. We're FB friends--I commisioned a trio of Gamble alters from him a million years ago. (Still got em!)

    Enchantments. Lots of them.

MaRo enjoys beating us over the head with stuff so I have a feeling like we're leaving the "Year of Double Face Cards" and heading into the "Year of Sagas" and I'm not looking forward to that at all, honestly. I think they are a very boring card type and seems like they want to throw them into every set just to remind us "Hey, don't forget about SAGAS!!" Sneaky

How do you get these black cards if the two Commander decks are W/U mana & R/G mana ? Confused

According to Mark Rosewater AFR is one of the best selling MtG sets ever.

Sure. Of course it is. According to Mark Rosewater, every set is one of the best selling MtG sets ever. Nodding the Affirmative

  • posted a message on What's with new color alignment on PWs?
The basic idea is that characters (like Humans) change over time. They're dynamic.

The other basic idea (I think) is that just like *US* players, Planeswalkers don't really on a single school of Magic. We all have different colored decks, etc. They probably do too...they live in this world, after all. I don't think this has ever been established officially by R&D but it seems reasonable enough to me.

You'll see PW's that are "grounded" in a color or color pair or wedge (usually the colors they were at first introduction) but over time, they'll play with it.

They're also used to balance things out in sets. It feels a little forced sometimes but R&D wants all five colors to be represented through at least one Planeswalker in every set. If any colors are missing, they'll often repurpose a previous PW character and just nudge their color focus a bit to make sure it's all balanced. (And then come up with a flavor/storyline justification for the color shift after the fact and (feels like) sometimes they don't even do that!)

I've been trying to understand this card since it was printed and I would appreciate some help here.

So, I cast this for white mana and I can kill 0 mana & 1 mana mana value targets.
If I spend white mana blue mana I can kill 2 mana , 1 mana and 0 mana mana value targets.
If I spend 1 mana white mana blue mana ..(assuming the 1 mana was also white mana or blue mana i.e. in a two-color deck)..I can still only kill a 2 mana , 1 mana and 0 mana mana value targets. No 3 mana mana value targets though because I only used two colors.

Is that really how this works?

As in, me juicing it up (paying more for X) literally does nothing to make this card more scalable for late game--I am always constrained by the # of different colors. So, until WotC decides to introduce new colors, in no world can this card remove anything with a mana value greater than 5 mana , is that right?

Tombstone Stairwell is next level card by nearly any yardstick! Flavor. Classic card. BIG effect. Also...strangly social effect that nearly everyone will get excited over. VERY SWINGY card though--be careful not to get yourself killed. (But hey, we're playing black mana here, that should probably always be part of the fun!) You can turn it off at any time, at least. (Note: more than one copy in play blows up the original one, so let each one die naturally.)

Endless Ranks of the Dead is the obvious inheritor of this card's portfolio but it lacks a lot of the sizzle of the original. It's far safer (and boring) and obviously costs a lot less $ but will definitely get you there after a few turns. Carrion is actually a very nice suggestion above. Those are probably $1 a playset and you'll definitely have some sac fodder. Something like Hangarback Walker seems pretty cute to me...sink all your mana into it...sac it and get *all* the tokens.

My artifact cube will be getting a MASSIVE update. I will hard-pressed to keep it at 450 but I will try!

My regular cube will be getting a significant update as well.

I don't have the energy to type it all out. This set is crazy-good; very happy at what they are giving us.
