Too much, ESP since Italian is cheaper. I could see the trade with no tezz, maybe one.

Last I checked a near mint karakas was hard to find and about $100. An Italian may be cheaper but not by much. Plus karakas is long out of print. Did vengevine go back up to $20?

I wouldn't trade mine for anything close to 4 vengevine and some tezzerets.

Seems to me that little scuff/scratch might be why you got a $20 card for $14. If it's such a big deal, tell the guy you want your money back and you can look around for another $14 one somewhere else.

I've purchased cards from online stores that were supposed to be NM and were worse than that. I guess I should upgrade the condition on all my cards to mint since they are better than these examples.

This actually happened during a recent trade, where I was supposed to be trading NM cards for NM cards, but the ones I received had some slight dings on the edges/corners. I wasn't about to tank the deal because of it, but I should have asked for my perfect fit sleeves back.

I suppose its possible, if you assume there wasnt a shortage this time and that the playerbase has grown fairly well since RTR, its entirely possible that GTC could have sold more than RTR. However, given the poor nature of this set, its also quite likely that RTR will end up on top in the long run. From what Ive seen of most sets, significantly more product gets sold within the first month of a set's release than at any other time during its time in-print. In the case of RTR, the early shortages harmed its potential early sales numbers, not allowing them to reach their maximum potential. With gatecrash I imagine there wasnt the shortage, so the sales could flow normally, allowing for a higher sales number by this point in the life-cycle of the set. Its also the case as well that we have at least one ultra-hot card in the set right now in boros reckoner thats also likely helping the sales along as people try to find a cheaper way to pull them than forking out $20+ per card.

I would have to say I agree with this sentiment. RTR was priced above normal at $115/box at release here locally compared to the usual $89 price tag and it was STILL selling out. I haven't seen that happening with GTC. Come to think of it, your point about boros reckoner makes sense for this owner as he would raise the price of a box because BR is only a rare and you're more likely to pull one than a mythic of comparable value.

Since I discovered the Demonic Tutor/Regrowth combo, I personally prefer black and green cards. For that reason, RTR is where it's at for me while GTC is all off colors as far as I'm concerned. That's why I've picked up 6+ boxes of RTR and only 3 of GTC.

    Thoughts on this?

    A: Boros Reckoner

    B: Geist of Saint Traft

Is Boros going up? Is GoST going down?

I went to my LGS today to buy the foil primordials (as I had been thinking about this for a while). They only had one copy of the red one. I bought a few EDH cards and decided to buy a booster box of Gatecrash, hoping to get the OTHER mythic track that I hadn't pulled in my other 3 boxes.

The box price was $115 (compared to $89 as it usually is for the newest box of Standard). By contrast, RTR and back was priced at $105 so I picked up a box of that instead.

Does this shop know something that we all don't, or are they overcharging just because?

Would you open the packs, ebay the box or hold on to it?

I would totally open it. In my opinion, those cards are fun to play with and having them in russian only makes them more rare and collectable. If you don't, I'll buy it from you. :p

    Buy Sealed FTV: Realms $65.00?

I paid $99 for my first one, and just bought one for $75 yesterday. Grove of the Burnwillows is increasing in price and who doesn't want a maze of ith?

I would have bought at $65 if that was an option for me.

Semi related, I personally find the easiest life counters on tracking life to be the Duelist Reaper abacus-style series from 1995-1998.

They go for between 40-150 depending on year and color, but A) they are pure friggin metal, B) are so much easier / quicker to use, and C) can be found in any of the 5 colors.

I have a couple of the commander counters, and they are very cumbersome to use, typically need two hands to use (so put down your hand of cards), and players can't tell what your life is easily it easily rolls back or forward one or two clicks.

I think long term the older counters will also outlast the newer in terms of value, so recommend anyone who is interested pick one up, they're great.

My lgs has a new version of those abacus style ones but they are like $30. I think that's too much.

I didn't really think about the two hands thing, that does put a damper on my plans to make one.

I picked up a foil Gyre Sage for inclusion in my GWB Ghave Commander deck. There are plenty of non-standard uses for it, and not everyone is an aspiring professional magic player.

This S-talking about new sets happens EVERY time a set comes out, then the combos are found and suddenly the jank rares from last week are worth 10x what they were worth before. I made a KILLING on Birthing Pod when they went from $1 to $10 (buy price) because I had 14 of them stuffed in my trade binder. As someone else mentioned, this also happened with consecrated sphinx, Grave Titan, Inferno Titan (to a lesser degree) and even the SOM dual lands.

We'll see how many of you are eating crow when this set has been out a while (though I think the Boros Reckoner is a little hyped right now).

No tracking was put on the order ($25+ order). They can barely respond to my messages.

    1) ALWAYS use tracking and pay for insurance, otherwise don't complain if something gets 'lost'. Tracking is like $.80 and insurance was $3 on a $140 shipment I sent out today. You took a gamble not paying for insurance or tracking and you lost...

    2) ...IF they actually sent the product in the first place! You can go to the post office and pickup a STACK of DC forms and send someone the number without ever mailing the cards.

    3) If now suddenly they won't respond, you KNOW something is wrong with that business. I lost a $50 pre-order of Innistrad from a 'reputable' card shop that refused to do anything or make good on it. Post office was no help, so now I don't let them ship to me IF I buy anything from them at all.

I used to send sealed packs as 'throw ins' with trades made here or with trades made at LGS.

i wouldn't say dumb... because everyone thought the same thing. there really wasn't a price guide.

my first pack of beta i thought dragon whelp was the rare.... until much later did i realize that it was not a rare.

Craw wurm was boss though 6/4 for 6... way overpowered. my playgroup actually banned him...

back in those days people had no idea what they were doing. And I think Force was in the top deck at one point.

I traded 3 Thrull Wizards for a Craw Wurm! HAHAHAHA And it's kinda crappy they replaced Black Lotus on the cut sheet with Aladdin's Ring in Revised...just think, every one of those you saw SHOULD HAVE BEEN a Black Lotus...hahaha

And I actually just bought a bunch of old Forces of Nature (mostly unlimited) for nostalgia's sake to build my old Jund deck. When we used to proxy them we'd cut them to line up with the end of the color/picture part so they wouldn't fray on the edges and peel apart. Yours definitely looks textured, so I'd like to know what is actually going on with it.

Does anyone know of a way to remove the laser/inkjet ink and reveal the real card that may be underneath it? Maybe it's a good card under there?

  • posted a message on Future of ZEN fetches
my $.02 is that they will have to reprint the onslaught fetches relatively soon.

They reprinted the m11/12/13 duals then did the corresponding ones in Innistrad.

They did the 5 guilds in RTR and then the other 5 in Gatecrash.

They did the original onslaught fetches, and finished the cycle in Zendikar (but they didn't KNOW they were making a cycle when they started, that's why it took so long to finish it).

I think we will see the complements to SOM lands and possibly the remaining man lands from WWK before too long also, just to tie up loose ends.

Since now they can just create cards out of thin air and put them in a core set (unlike back in the old days), and they apparently intend on reprinting whatever they want, whenever they want (except the reserved list) I'm VERY skeptical on putting money into ANYTHING that could be reprinted soon (and thus tank in price) like Royal Assassin, Vesuvan Doppelgänger, etc.

I would speculate the Zen lands would be safer from reprint than Onslaught lands, but both fairly likely.

I hate when my wife plays it against me in her Kaalia deck. So much so, that I erased 'Sanctity' and wrote 'Bull****' in it's place. I'm glad I defaced it when it was jank rare status, and not now that it's worth $12. Slant
