I'd like to know what the package says or looks like if anyone can post a pic.

I will take a pic when I get home from work.
It is the box from inside the commander box that holds the deck and the folded
how to play" materials. with the promo card in front of it wrapped in plastic.
They do not hang on a hook, they sit on one of the shelves in a box that holds them in a single row.

One of mine had the Broodmate, the other had a gold griffin.
    Edit: Retaliator Griffin promo

Yeah I am in St Petersburg Florida myself.
I went to three different Walmarts looking, and they were in the last one of them.
Funniest part is that they also had the normal full priced Commander packages a few shelves over.
They also have some other jank offerings with constructed decks from different sets like Onslaught and Judgement + 100 sleeves in a plastic box but those are like 29.99 and a rip off also some single boosters from Kamigawa, judgement, invasion and others for 6.99.
Will definitely be keeping an eye on the other two Walmarts.

I can vouch for this, I picked up 2 copies of the political deck and my gf got the GUB one.
They were sold out of the rest.

To be realistic, i would have first gone to the store owner and tried to broker a bulk deal.
The more boxes he goes through, the better deal they can usually get especially with Wizards but also with distribs.
So he may have been able to match or come close to the prices you got online if kept on the down low to other customers.
We lost some good shops in the past because of people working deals to undercut stores, and when one of the stores put in a small commission on sales in the store which most of us were cool with (it really was poket change usually) there were people who would go out to their car to keep from having to pay a quarter here and there.
I have been lucky enough to find good shops here, so I take care of them and they take care of me.
Could I find boxes cheaper than the 100 each that I am paying for my AVR after taxes? Sure I could but I would not get my buy a box promos and I would not be helping the store. Singles I usually get on here or Ebay but as Serenity Game (the LGS) gains more time under its belt they are starting to be competitive with singles too.
SO in your story, yes he was a bit hasty but you do not know how it was presented to him. Especially if some of the people you were talking to are people who always bought boxes at that store in the past.

Also, why has the entire set been revealed nearly a full week before the pre-release event, which itself is nearly a week before the set is available for general purchase? Why has that been done with nearly every recent set? Would it not be better to wait until the day before the pre-release to reveal the entire set, so that it is a greater surprise to the players, so that they do not have a full week to familiarize themselves with the cards and how they can be used?

Apart from that, however, I am very excited about this set, and hope that its pre-release event shall be fun!

Because pre-releases are tedious as hell already when people stop after every play "can..can I see that card" and then take ten minutes reading it.
And then game two when you play the same card "can..can I see that card" and another ten minutes.
While there are some people are are internetarded, and others choose to stay spoiler free (which I have nothing against, I just could not do it) at least if SOME people familiarize themselves ahead of time it can go at least a little faster.

Wow, this is disappointing. I love Vampires and Zombies and they didn't get much love. I like Angels too but they really went overboard with them. Demons have some cool toys but what really gets me is that they ignored Werewolves. I understand the idea of not wanting to stick something if it failed but after two sets, why would it hurt to keep them in? Don't tell me it's hard to have a 'flip legendary' when you already have a flip Planeswalker. Not to mention that Garruk and Sorin are both completely ignored in the set and story overall. What happens? Why is Sorin a 'big deal' for the first two and now forgotten? Seems he should have had some relevance with finding Avacyn.

Garruk had his conclusion in the story very clearly if you read the write up on the Wizards site.
Sorin not so much yet, but there will be another write up later this week.
Why should Sorin be a big deal in finding her?
This was about his story, and the fact that he made her to create balance.

Jace, eldrazis are by themselves better than all the AVR set combined imo. Not counting all the other awesome cards from those 2 sets. In AVR... what do we have other than the devil and the land?

Don't worry, other people out there will make the decks to show people why certain cards are good as usual...

This set has some gems but overall it doesn't excite me. Cavern of Souls being spoiled has lowered my expectations and future fun in playing Magic. I know others who feel the same. If it does indeed have a impact on the game as a whole, expect people to walk away. Zac Hill had said years ago when Mana Leak was printed, tons of players quit. Well, expect the same if this alienates a major deck type/playstyle.

If only there was a card in legacy that everyone played that got rid of irritating lands....and if only there was a card in standard that did pretty much the same thing....

Welp, looks like I will be skipping out on buying a box for this set... Pretty disappointing IMHO.

Guess I just have to wait until RTR...

    lulz.
Yeah this set definitely has sharp knees lol.
Seriously though stop playing now, because if you are disappointed with this set no set will be coming along that will please you in the years to come.

So glad people say they won't come to Prerelease because of Helvault.

It's like saying they won't come to a movie premiere because they don't like free Coke and were expecting free Pepsi and popcorn.

I really, really, really, have no words how happy I am you cancelled your reservations.

The less whiny spoiled kids on the tourney, the better.

    Agreed

You who sing the praises of WOTC take note on another recently spoiled card: Archangel. Another reprint of a former great rare at uncommon.
You know the werewolf thing is just another kick in the teeth...just like the griffin...
    Its sad to see...

Archangel, as much as I love the Quinton Hoover art deserves to be an uncommon with what it does for its casting cost.
Not really sure what it has to do with Wizards not making a card that would have never lived up to what people built up in their heads anyway.

Rosewater is clever - he might have picked his words very carefully about there not being any werewolves in AVR; there may very well be a legendary Wolfir, non-dfc.

I hope so, it would be nice to see a tribe supported the whole way through a block.

Pretty sure all Legends are accounted for in the block and confirmed by the Helvault.

I stopped going to prerelease since they stopped the midnight events and the drafts, two really fun ways to play magic and being able to spend nearly an entire night and day of it.. crazy, i know.

    /Rant on
They just slowly cut more and more, making it hard to really enjoy a prerelease. Instead of being a fun night (or day now I guess), of playing magic and getting to do as many events as possible and different formats, they've limited them and cut one of the biggest lures, mythic promos.

Year by year, they cut more and more. Replacing player reward cards with terrible promos, removing TO's ability to host events, and cutting/restricting when/where events can be held.

It's really sad that there was much more incentive to go to these events 7-8 years ago, then now. Now, it's just large pieces of cardboard I'll never use. No casual player will either. Most people I know, just toss their oversized cards (I did, however, make awesome beer coasters out of mine).
    /rant off.

Do we deserve good stuff and promos as incentives to join? Well... yea. We're customers and probably the best advertisers to the game. We bring our little brothers out, we mention it to our friends, we meet with rolling eyes of our wives/girlfriends (some of us bring them out to join), we buy packs or help out new players with old cards.... Magic, the game, is full of helpful paper crack pushers. we've done much more for this game than any advertiser would... it feels like throwing us a small "thanks" for our efforts would be nice... and good business. You keep giving us incentives, and we keep showing our passion for this game.

For the record they have not stopped midnight events as far as I am aware of , our store is doing one as they always have and then another at 2pm.
(And another shop is doing midnight and then 6pm about 30 mins away)
