Strategy:
The combo this deck is based around (or synergy) is Gilt-Leaf Archdruid + Joiner Adept + Door to nothingness. This isn't always going to work, the biggest reason for that is simply because people do not like seeing a Gilt-Leaf Archdruid and 6 other druids on your board... ever. This deck can also win with an all out aggro assault on your opponent. Door of Destinies allows for some pretty big druids.
NO SIDEBOARD?! WHAT?!
Yes, it's true I do not have a sideboard- yet! I am debating on what to do here, I am very lost with it because I've only played two other decks. I did lose both games, 1-2 against Goblin Quest and 1-2 against mono black discard deck that used Phyrexian Obliterator who in my opinion is completely broken. If I could please get some comments or suggestions for my side board that would be very much appreciated.
Why this deck?
I don't have a lot of money laying around (wish I did) to spend on a format I am new to. These are all cards left over from EDH decks I have. I am a huge fan of Lorwyn block and would love to see my Door of destinies played. This is a very budget friendly deck. Druids are awesome. And imagine seeing a Door to nothingness get dropped down in a mono green deck.
Help?
Any and all suggestions are wanted and welcome. I really do need your help to make this deck better in any way. I won't be able to improve this deck as well without input. Playing against other decks just won't be enough I believe.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Questions and comments are always welcome.
Lost my first game, 1v1 vs Edrik, Spymaster. It was pretty awful concidering I crushed a vendillion clique (I got extremely lucky I'll admit). If the trend is going to be me losing to mass amounts of creatures, what sort of answers do I need? Storm Cauldron also didn't work out in a multiplayer game, i ended up losing too many lands to my hand and discarding without drawing into a Crucible of Worlds. I love the idea of cauldron but it isn't making the list :\
One note is that deck tags are a lot easier to work with than tagging every card
[DECK*][/DECK] (remove the asterisk)
Might I suggest Storm Cauldron. It allows you to get benefits off of landfall more
Updated to Deck tags. Sorry about the sloppy post, I haven't been on this site in ages.
I do like Storm Cauldron a lot. It's cool because it can hurt my opponents, but it could also hurt me. I could give it a test drive and see if I like it since I've only seen it run in Azusa, Lost but Seeking deck lists. I'm just worried I'll be returning too many lands to my hand at once and not being able to throw them back into play as fast.
I'll add it in and post my findings as I play. Any idea what I should remove for it? Perhaps Bloodghast...
Hello, this is my Horde of notions Land fall EDH deck. I've only played one game with it. I've never seen anything like this before so I thought I would give it a post and see what kind of feed back I get. Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome.
Why I am using Horde of notions: Five colors allows me to use all of the fetch lands, all of the landfall creatures, and with Ashes of the Fallen I can replay any of my creatures using my general! Not to mention Horde of Notions is great for swinging in with Vigilance Trample and Haste.
With the named cards in the above paragraph I wonder if I should play Green/White, I'm still debating on the best general for multicolored Landfall.
This deck is still in the testing phases so there may be a lot of changes to come.
If you see any cards that are worth cutting or adding please let me know. I am very open to suggestions. If you have any questions for me please feel free to ask.
I have been running khamal for about a year. Our decks are completely different. I do not doubt your deck because I have not seen it played, but I know for a fact I've seen 5 person scoops to mine.
Here's my suggestions: Gaea's Cradle + Rude Awakening Regal Force with Avenger of Zendikar. This can be easily pulled off with creature search or tooth and nail!
I see a lot of little beaters, I run cards that create tokens as well, but I've had better experience running cards like: Scapeshift with my rampaging baloths and avenger of zendikar, scapeshift also gets the lands out of your deck, allows you to get gaea's cradle or any other good land. Good for landfall and if you're running Life from the loam it's so awesome.
These are just some of my suggestions, (I'll post my Khamal deck soon and post a link for you). Let me know what you think of these. And I like how you run 36 lands. I found it to be most effective with green.
The play you describe is illegal. The Oblivion Stone is sacrificed as a cost of activating its ability, so it is no longer on the battlefield by the time players can respond.
Note: for something like Nevinyrral's Disk, where this is possible, everything still goes boom. The ability is independent of its source, and doesn't really care what happens to the source after it has been activated.
what if Nevinyrral's Disk is boomeranged to the owner's hand in response to it's ability? everything blows up and they get there disk back?
Last ability of oblivion stone is activated to make everything go boom and in response if I were to play a naturalize or boomerang or something other than split second, what would happen? I've been playing for 3 years and I'm just never sure in this case. I've always just assumed that everything would still go boom. thanks
You can activate the ability whenever you have priority because it's an activated ability
You get priority in the declare attackers step, in fact you get priority in every step except untap and usually cleanup
So you can cast elementals from your grave in the combat phase with horde of notions
Even if you could not normally cast the elemental at this time (eg. because it's a creature and you aren't in a main phase) horde of notions gives you permission to cast it. (Other people have already covered this quite well)
Just seemed like there was some arguing back and forth whether or not it would work. but i understand now thanks
The thing with casting spells is that rulings don't make timings restrictive, they make them permissive instead. You can't do something in Magic unless a rule says you can. That's why rules like "You can cast a creature card when you have priority during your main phase and the stack is empty" exist.
Horde of Notions gives you permission to cast the spell during the resolution of it's ability. Normally, no player would be able to cast anything during this time. Since the activated ability has no restrictions on when it can be activated, you can activate it any time you have priority. You will be able to cast the targeted elemental card during the resolution of the ability.
Thank you! I am still a little confused maybe I'm just reading it too quickly. But I think I understand that you CAN'T play his ability when someone declares attackers on their turn, is this correct?
Merestil Haye. The question was; does the ability cast the card as an instant. I know that it does not let you cast multiple cards and let you change your mind.
You seem to have answered the question, but now I have different opinions going back and forth here.
Who is really right? and who is really wrong?
and your first part seems a little strange... Permission to cast 1 card from the graveyard- yes, then you say when you cannot normally cast a spell not even an instant because I have no permission. I have permission to cast an instant at any time do i not? Therefore horde of notions could cast crib swap at any time with his ability as long as the card is in the graveyard at the point in which the ability fully resolves.
You can indeed. When you activate the ability, it superseeds the timing restrictions on a normal creature spell. It's like the ability piggybacks the creature spell and forces it to be cast like an instant, so you can cast a Shriekmaw during combat.
That really makes horde of notions really good then! I like this Thanks a lot!
as for- Hardtrack: I don't think you visited the hyperlinks to the cards on my original post. The 3 instants have the creature type Elemental- after reading the above comment by: lifeinsepia, you can actually cast them from your graveyard as instants (using his ability). Maybe you misunderstood, I did mean for the instants/sorceries to be cast with his ability to have creature types.
I was trying to find this question on the forum but wasn't successful, i was hoping someone may know...
With Horde of Notions can you use his ability to cast creatures at instant speed? In that sense could you cast shapeshifter Instants with his ability as Instants?
Or do the cards abide by the normal casting rules of creatures, sorcery, and instants?
My friend made an EDH with Sliver Overlord as the EDH General. He plays all Allies and Shapeshifters for creatures and what not, but we were debating on whether or not the Shapeshifter instants would trigger the Ally abilities.
Playing those cards with (any triggered ally in play such as) Umara Raptor in play.
Allies state "enter the battlefield" do the instants "enter the battlefield"? They are allies to a point which means they could give +1/+1 counters to his mass of Allies (or other triggered abilities). Please help?
