So I'm going to be giving this a try. I'm a sucker for tribal and this is really inexpensive to put together.

One thing I'm not entirely sure about is the land. Funky's deck has 22 and yakusoku's goblin deck in the stickied thread has 24. I've done some unscientific testing using a deck app and it doesn't seem to be a huge issue, thoughts would be welcome though.

I definitely like the idea of a second lord through Adaptive Automaton and he would still be a target for Goblin Grenade. As for Arc Trail vs. Incinerate I would prioritize Incinerate because of Instant speed.

As for our gobbos I did a search for every standard-legal card with the Goblin subtype and 12 (creatures) came up. The only other dude I would consider adding is Oxidda Daredevil. You're paying 1 extra mana for one more attack power with his ability being more or less useless in my mind. I'm only main decking one artifact and even then, if you were to sac a Shrine of Burning Rage to the Daredevil when he came in, you wouldn't get the burn effect from the Shrine which defeats the entire purpose of it. At least that's how I think it works, if I'm wrong someone let me know.

As everyone likes to say, sideboard is a work in progress. I took a few hints from the mono-red decks that have been posted in other threads.

    - Nihil Spellbomb because graveyard shenanigans seem to be fairly prevalent this time around. Easily replaceable if it turns out to not be as big an issue.

    - Vulshok Refugee and Perilous Myr against other red decks. I was going to say against the mirror but what are the odds?

    - Manic Vandal for anti-artifact. It was a toss up between this and Ancient Grudge. Vandal wins because I own them and hey, extra body but I would consider Grudge if I had them because of lower mana cost and instant. Crush is also a contender but doesn't hit artifact creatures. If artifacts are a major issue, maybe add as a replacement for something else. There's also Shatter out of SOM if you want another 2 CMC, instant speed option as Grey mentioned.

    - Traitorous Blood because they're cheap and is an answer against bombs, specifically titans. Seems useful in my opinion but perhaps replaced by something better.

    - Hero of Oxid Ridge well, it would be if I had one. Basically a house of our own. He's a 4 drop but has haste and pumps all your gobbos as well. Now that I think about it, if I'm siding him in I'd probably want 2.

    - Arc Trail because I was honestly out of ideas at that point and who doesn't like more burn.

There you have my take on a pure Goblin deck. Not sure how competitive it is/will be but I'm planning on putting it together this week and hopefully doing some kitchen table testing.

As someone who's running U/W Illusions, I'd say go for it. It's extremely strong, and running the transformational sideboard to make it in to Grand Architect-y big creatures means most decks can't sideboard well against you.

That sounds like a fairly interesting deck. Could you perhaps point us in the direction of an example list and sideboard? I've been through the Illusions Primer thread that I linked above and didn't see a list quite like the one you've mentioned, could be I missed it though.

I had expected this thread to be a mile long... Getting' in on the ground floor I guess.

So here's the situation: I'm looking for a Type 2 deck to play at FNM until I head overseas in December. The Navy is sending me to Japan for 3 years so I'm looking to get back and start playing again at the LGS till I head out. I was playing quite a bit up until NPH (I can't not call it that) then fell out of the groove. With the block rotating I'd just really like to get back into the game until it's time to go.

What I've played in the past: B/R Vampires, Mono-B Vampires, Kuldotha Red, and I built a budget version of Tempered Steel but never really took it for a spin. I like aggro, loads of synergy, and yes tribes. (I like a bit of flavor, what can I say)

What I've been considering: (linking the relevant threads)

Vampires - Rotation completely killed the old Vampire decks. Doesn't look to be as explosive and the new vamps just don't seem to play off each other as well as the old ones did. I would still be willing to give them a go if there is some inkling that they're playable post rotation however.

R/G Werewolves - I really do like the idea of rolling with some werewolves, flipping cards, and clawing face. However, with the prerelease only this weekend seems to be too early to tell if they themselves will be the ones getting rolled. I won't lie, the idea of playing with predominantly Innistrad cards is pretty appealing.

Illusions - I'm usually not a big Blue player but they just seem to work so well together. Decklists seem more mature as they've had some playtesting since M12's release.

There you have it, my friends. I'm just looking to show up at FNM, have some fun, and not get completely laughed out of the place. I'll keep on reading and doing my research while looking forward to your guy's suggestions. Also keep in mind that I'm willing to look beyond these three archetypes, these threads are just what have caught my eye so far. Appreciate the help.

Yeah, really enjoyed that article as well. I appreciate the fact that they have someone on the mothership coming up and writing about stuff that isn't the "norm." Reading most forums and going to my LGS, if you didn't know any better you'd think the tier 1 decks all came in a box and that's all you could play.

Anyone tried that article's deck or some kind of derivative? It feels like you could take his archetype and sex it up with a few cheap rares pretty easily. Am going to have to think on that...

I haven't been able to find the ally deck list for Paris. Mind posting it.

Here's the deck list according to TCG Player. Naya Allies

I'm curious how this would do at a FNM, especially given the cost as was mentioned above. My only hang up is the fetches since I don't own any.

I have used virtualbox for a long time on my laptop and it has basically been fine -- the resolution isn't optimal but it does work.

I've been curious about this. I've been thinking about getting into MTGO but my wife and I both use Macs. Which laptop are you running it on? Also did you give any of the paid virtual machine apps a try (Parallels and VMWare Fusion) before settling on virtualbox?

We've got one computer set up with boot camp but if its even easier to do itvirtualized that would beat having to boot and re-boot and all that.

I won't give any illusions here, without Liquimetal it's hard to get off the ground. That is why I think the following distribution of cards is close to the correct one for this deck.
    ...

Gotta say I like this deck idea and think I'm going to try and create a list similar to yours but had a few questions.

Just getting back into the game and trying to learn as much as I can, first question is, why Kozilek, Butcher of Truth in the sideboard? Just looking at it, it seems like you'd be sideboarding out to turn the deck into a bit more straight burn so when would you use him? (genuine question, I really am just curious).

Second question, do you think Chandra Nalaar would make a good substitute for Koth of the Hammer? I haven't been lucky enough to pull one and $3 is a lot easier on the wallet :). If you hadn't pulled him, what would you have put in?

Again, really like the philosophy behind this, looking forward to giving this a try soon.

Greetings. Been lurking for a while and finally decided it was time to register and start posting a bit.

Just recently got back into the game after being on-again-off-again for a while. My first draft was the week after Scars came out and gotta say I'm enjoying it. I never played in any organized events up till now. I first started playing Magic back when 4th Edition was relatively new and I believe Ice Age had just come out? My brother and I were in middle school and we would play with pretty much our entire collections just sitting in a giant stack beside us. Why make a deck when you have all these awesome creatures in five colors .

Flirted with the game again around Cold Snap, my buddies and I just bought a boat load of cards in lots and would sit around making decks to play with. That and my girlfriend at the time played so what wasn't to like. Now I'm back at it again, this time playing at my LGS during FNM. So far I've only drafted but have quite enjoyed it.

After a couple of weeks of drafting and acquiring cards I'm now attempting to make a few Standard decks and give our type 2 tournament a try. Seems like our store is fairly competitive, its the only one around the Monterey, CA area and easy to get to for the guys at DLI. (I'm military myself but at NPS)
