I need some advice on how I could go about taking my MTGO collection and cashing it out in actual dollars and not credits. So far, I have found that MTGOTraders.com will pay real cash for MTGO cards. Are there any other means I should look in to?

The reason for doing this is because I want to purchase some Christmas gifts for my wife and I have no other means to come up with the money. So I need to generate real cash and have it transferred to my personal account rather quickly since the holiday is approaching.

I'm happy to report that I have been doing well in the two man queues. I'm even money right now, but was up a few tickets however I lost some due to going 0-1 in a modern 8 man. I seem to be going around 6-4 on average I think in the two mans.

I haven't played them as much the past few days due to work commitments but I think once things settle down for me I'll resume hitting the queues. I am not expecting to strike it rich, but they will be good practice for a DE, once one fires for modern.

I'm also considering pauper again since the DEs fire each time and the entry point is low. I'd play affinity most likely, doubling down on that archetype, playing it in two different formats.

As for scheduling game time, I think that will be the way to go. My wife is pretty understanding of my gaming. So long as I don't gamble the rent money and don't completely ignore her Im surei can strike a balance.

Hey all I'll be offline for a week or so; I have a business trip coming up tomorrow and I'll be gone a week. I'll probably be dealing with the aftermath for a week or so after I get back, so I may not be on as much. Hopefully you guys can get a DE to fire and win some packs!

For all involved and interested, we actually got a 8 man queue to fire tonight. 2 of us got in the money which is nice. We put 6 people in to a DE but it didn't fire, however the 8 man queue was a nice consolation prize.

I think if we keep up the momentum, we can get enough interest to fire a DE. Also, firing 8 mans occasionally may help show people that there is interest in modern.

I think if you stick to a list that has shown success in the de's you should be okay. I'd say that 20 tickets should be a good start, but don't get discouraged if you go 0-3 or something.

I'd say if you are playing in the TP room and winning more than you're loosing, when you play against the top teir decks, then you should do well enough in the 2 mans. However the real money to be made is in the DEs.

On pdcmagic.com nighthawk has a post about grinding pauper for tickets. I recommend checking it out. If you look at the DE results for pauper, you'll see a few people who go 3-1 or 4-0 quite often.

If you really want to grind it out, you can do the DEs and 2 mans. I know of some people who will enter a DE playing a fast deck like TPPS, and in between rounds, hit the 2 mans. If you want to grind it out, I recommend using TPPS or Goblins and maybe affinity so that your matches are quick and you can make the most amount of tickets per hour.

I tried out the queues tonight and I did okay. Went 1-1. First match was 1-2 and other 2-0. Afterwards I made some tweaks and hit TP while watching TV.

Off the bat I noticed the vibe is different. I felt like I was playing better and so were my opponents. After the queues I kept track of my wins/losses and I seem to go about 50/50.

I think that I'll have to set some time aside to focus and grind the queues a bit. Trying to play and deal with two dogs and talking to my wife would put me on tilt I'm sure if I lost.

I have to say winning my first pack was awesome. I ended my short night at a .30 loss, but the experience was worth it. It makes me want to try a DE, but they seem to be at times that I cannot make it. How do you guys make time for DEs and balance work & family?

I'm playing red affinity and I'm using ancient grudge. I think Nasty is right that if you prepare for Zoo that you'll be able to handle affinity. However I think affinity is a real deck, but from what I can tell on MTGO, no one is playing a lot of it. I'd personally would prefer Zoo but I don't want to spend the money on goyfs so close to banning season. So for me the best bang for the buck deck is Affinity.

Should we create a chat channel on MTGO? Maybe do a /join ModernSalvation ?

EDIT: misread - you said artifact & enchantment. From what I have seen, I agree with ravenight, that Disenchant, Beast Within & O-Ring are seeing some play.

Not entirely sure what you're saying here... I'm not some slob... I just don't see the use in dressing up. It's not a job.

That's the key difference, the people dressing up are professional players, which means that World's is their job. These people were going to "work", and big money was on the line. They are sponsored and if I were a sponsor, I would want the person representing my business to look professional.

I usually play after 7PM EST through the week and I usually get on during the weekends. Wednesdays tend to be bad for me; although I'll be online, I set that day aside to play 2HG with a buddy of mine who lives in another state. I think he would be a great addition to the clan however as he primarily likes to play Modern.

After the holiday, I think it would be a good idea to see if we can coordinate our schedules to get a DE to fire.

I also have to say that Slippy's PRE was a lot of fun. ChiruChiru won the whole thing yesterday evening using a Snow White brew. I saw a few of us there and I think it was a nice way to get started.

As far as organization is concerned, would anyone be interested in using Vent and or Skype? I use to be a guild leader when I played WoW, and it was great talking to my guild members in Vent. If there is an interest in it, I'll see what I can do about hosting a Vent server.

I highly doubt you have a 75%+ win percentage since that would be around a 2100+ rating.

Also for the OP 2-Man queues are often used for play testing not as much for trying to actually win tickets. If your goal is to win tickets I would play daily events. However, in this case with Modern events not firing, just be prepared that playing in these 2-man queues will likely lose you tickets.

What you're saying here I think is inline what what I want to do, I want to use the 2-mans to get better, in other words, use it for play testing. I want to take my deck and play in an environment that is more challenging that the TP room.

The main question I have to the community is what made you go from not playing in tournaments to playing in tournaments. And when you did that, how much did you win/loose at first?

In the World's video coverage, they talked about this a bit. Putting that jacket on can put you in the "going to work" mode, which is what these guys are doing. They're professional card players and they want to look professional.

Now does this mean at your next FNM or MTGO DE you should sport a blazer? Probably not, but World's was the top event and as such, people showed the event and game itself some respect by looking respectful.

For context, what I'm thinking of using for Modern is Red Affinity. I have been playing a lot of TP room and I feel like I can do well versus Zoo and other "real" decks, things that aren't randombrew.dec.

Do I think I can win more than I loose? I think that I can, which is why I'm considering this, but, I'm not positive. I expect some losses, due to misplays, interface, bad luck, poor matchups etc...

The lure for me is so that I can improve my game. From what I have read, to progress as a player you need to move beyond the TP room and in to the tournaments. That's ultimately what I want to do, is improve my game and become net positive as I improve.

Am I playing a deck that can do the most powerful things? I think affinity can be considered a deck in Modern, even though it wasn't in the top 8 in Worlds. I also feel that I am playing it well, at least well enough to start playing in the queues. However the goal is to play it even better than I am, and what I believe I need to do, is up the competition.
