This has nothing to do with the DCC but...I finally got my puppy yesterday (he's a golden retriever)! Look how cute he is (he's my avatar).

Freyleyes posted a message on [Monthly Card Contest] ***MCC*** Discussion ThreadThanks for the catch. I made the changes needed. As for sub challenge 1, I just changed it to "Your card has no white mana symbols on it." My idea was just that the card isn't white in any way.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games -

MSE does have a Saga template. I know because I have it. I'll see if I can find again the link.
EDIT: found it. While you're there, take a look at the whole thread, there are templates for all recent frames, including those from Dominaria. Credit to user Cajun from the new MSE forum. I'll add this to the clarifications in the round thread.

June MCC Round 2
Family history
One thing I've always been fascinated by is family trees. It's amazing to find out what your origins are and how they've impacted who you are now. I've built my own family tree recently going as far back as I could, and I learned a lot more about its branches in England, Australia, and multiple different parts of Italy. In Magic, family connections are often represented through creature types and tribal mechanics. For example, the kinship mechanic from Lorwyn block comes to mind. Nowadays, most Magic sets have a tribal component. Dominaria is no exception, with its Wizards and Knights.
Main Challenge - Design a Wizard creature that cares about other Wizards or a Knight creature that cares about other Knights.
Subchallenge 1 - Your creature is green (aka there is a green mana symbol in its mana cost).
Subchallenge 2 - Your creature is not legendary.
• The tribal synergy required by the main challenge can be of any kind: you can give a bonus to any or all Wizard/Knight, care about controlling one or more Wizard/Knight, check if there is a Wizard/Knight card in a graveyard, etc... Any tribal synergy of any kind is good.
• The Wizard/Knight creature type must be mentioned in the rules text.
• If your creature is a Wizard, it must care about other Wizards and it can't care about Knights, and viceversa. In other words, no crossing between the two creature types.
• In Dominaria, Wizards are in blue and red and Knights are in white and black, so it will be very hard to include green. Subchallenge 1 is intentionally difficult. Think carefully about whether you really want to try to go for it. Sometimes it's better to have a clean design that doesn't meet one of the subchallenges rather than wanting to force a subchallenge at all costs (only to pay it in Elegance and Viability and maybe more). Of course, I'm not saying you must or should ignore subchallenge 1. If you have a card design in which green makes sense, totally go for it. I'm just saying I meant it to be hard.
• Subchallenge 1 cares about the colors in the mana cost, NOT the card's color identity. In other words, mana symbols in the rules text do NOT count.
• For subchallenge 2, as long as the card does not have the legendary supertype it's fine.
• If you have any other question that's not covered here, feel free to ask in the discussion thread.
(X/3) Appeal: Do the different player psychographics (Timmy/Johhny/Spike) have a use for the card?
(X/3) Elegance: Is the card easily understandable at a glance? Do all the flavor and mechanics combined as a whole make sense?
Development -
(X/3) Viability: How well does the card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? Is it the appropriate rarity?
(X/3) Balance: Does the card have a power level appropriate for contemporary constructed/limited environments without breaking them? Does it play well in casual and multiplayer formats? Does it create or fit into a deck/archetype? Does it create an oppressive environment?
Creativity -
(X/3) Uniqueness: Has a card like this ever been printed before? Does it use new mechanics, ideas, or design space? Does it combine old ideas in a new way? Overall, does it feel “fresh”?
(X/3) Flavor: Does the name seem realistic for a card? Does the flavor text sound professional? Do all the flavor elements synch together to please Vorthos players?
Polish -
(X/3) Quality: Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating.
(X/2) *Main Challenge: Was the main challenge satisfied? Was it approached in a unique or interesting way? Does the card fit the intent of the challenge?
(X/2) Subchallenges: One point awarded per satisfied subchallenge condition.
Total: X/25
*An entry with 0 points here is subject to disqualification.

As I had anticipated, I'm ready to do it. I've actually already written half the challenges... If you agree, I will wait a few more days and then go ahead and post the judge signup thread at the end of this week, then round 1 right on June 1st.

Thanks to you for hosting, to all the judges (I don't want to let their work go thankless because I know very well what it means) and to all the players for being awesome opponents. What can I say? I rarely play, but lately it looks like every time I do, I win... am I really so good at this? Anyway, time to update my resume! Thanks again to everyone.
I'll follow the contest from the outside on December, un-cards are not something I really like to design or judge, even though Unstable might easily be the first un-set I actually... (gasp, am I really about to say this?)... like. It has a structure that really appeals to me, and most of all it's not as out-of-the-box as the previous un-sets. It has no cards that force you to remove your pants and such. The worst it can happen is a Slaying Mantis being thrown around, or having to play Hangman, and that's nothing compared to previous un-sets. And no, Blurry Beeble is not a problem to me, I wear glasses all the time in real life (I'm myopic). I also really like both contraptions and host/augment, and I wouldn't mind seeing both of them in black border. Even though I understand why the rules don't currently allow them to be in black border, I hope someday that will change, and I think it's plausible. The adjustments required to support them look doable to me. Anyway, thanks again and back to lurking (and dealing with real life).

Kovan’s Hammer 2RR
Legendary Artifact — Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has haste.
R, T: Kovan’s Hammer deals 2 damage to target creature or player. Activate this ability only once each turn and only if Kovan’s Hammer is not attached to a creature.
As long as Kovan’s Hammer is tapped, it can’t be attached to a creature.

...except maybe a little outdated by now. It still has the old rubric in it! The general principles still apply of course, but I might need to revise those someday. I honestly don't know when that might be though. Real life is always an angry beast to deal with, and it requires attention if you don't want it to eat you like a dinosaur its prey! (Can you guess what my favorite tribe by far in Ixalan is?)
And speaking of that (real life), I want to apologize for not having be as active as I used to be this month. I will not enter into details, but I've had health issues at the beginning of the month and I've undergone surgery exactly seven days ago. Nothing serious and all went well, but I'm still in the process of healing. That's why you haven't been hearing a lot from me lately, and also why I didn't apply as a judge this month. I'll come back to participate and judge in contests as soon as I get better, hopefully next month already.
