He was the only legend in the box of 1000 random cards I bought when first getting into the game, and he is now my favorite EDH general. I just ordered an Italian copy of Stangg to be his evil twin. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
That said, this is no Control Magic or Lignify.
sort of.
I change my answer to Balthor/Balthor. I used to run a Balthor the Defiled deck and it was a very fun glass cannon. Adding red to it would up it's power level by a lot.
Add the dragonlords to that as well. Having almost any pair of them in the command zone seems strong.
EDIT: Oh, and speaking of Dragons, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind have some pretty strong synergy.
Kamahl/Kamahl was my first thought as well. I'm not sure how often you would ever actually cast Red Kamahl, but Green Kamahl is already a strong general and adding red to him would be nuts. Pyroclasm and similar become build-your-own one-sided Armageddon.
And having a 6-mana lightning bolt in the command zone will sometimes be relevant as well.
I've got a Gruul deck that uses manadorks to ramp into MLD, and it basically runs no land-search ramp. So there are still exceptions. But not many.
But the real joy is in stealing the activated abilities of your opponents' creatures.
