    I dig it.

I've found that the difference between most lists are very slight, maybe up to 4 cards main and a handful of sideboard space.

Another main diference is youve cut Kira entirely, have you missed her or dismember at all?

Against jund do you go up to 32 creatures postboard?

I like the game plan vs deaths shadow and infect of going up to the full 12 "etb" 'Folk postboard.

Is there anything you find you would like to add if you had more space?

Thanks for being such a big part of the forum Rothgar. Both in modern and legacy. I tend to agree with your school of thought.

Rothgar, what is your list currently?
I'd really like to see what you cut to be able to include a full set of Harbinger and Tidebinder and why.

How do most of you guys trim down your last few slots in your lists? I run 61 card main as a general preference however, still tend to have 1 to 2 cards I want in the deck somewhere.

Right now my list matches most of the forum's.

    12 lords
    4 master waves
    4 silvergill
    4 cursecatcher
    4 vial
    4 seas
20 land including 4 mutavault, 2 cavern, oboro and minamo

4 slots currently 2 spell Pierce, 2 dismember
    And 4 slots 2 harbinger. 2 tidebinder.
61st card is a toss up between a 3rd Harbinger, or 3rd dismember thanks to the forum.

    Sb is atm
    4 hurkylls
    2 relic of progenitus
    2 negate
    2 dispel
    2 kira
    3 tectonic edge

However I still feel I'm going to need a 3rd tidebinder somewhere, and Vendillion Clique has always been really good to me in spots as a 1 or 2 of....

So my question is, being that I've rarely if ever played with tec edge or kira, how important are they really? The last time I gave kira a chance was 2 to 3 years ago and she was Really lackluster. Then again I had a litteral Ton of Fluff in that list so it may be related. I may post it later so we can laugh at how things have changed.

How necessary is dismember currently? Should 2 copies be enough? Was there ever any consensus on vapor snag vs dismember vs spell Pierce or is it still a styling question?

Thanks for your help! Looking forward to a win a mox tourney next week!

It looks to me like Kyle Machado's 16 place list is practically the core build of the deck currently.

My only personal changes would be to add a second spell pierce to the main as a 61st card. (My playstyle) cut the Pierce and gut shot from the board for two negates, and call it a day.

From there I'd only be debating the 3rd dismember(never felt comfortable seeing more than 2 in a deck unless packing timelys and batterskulls...probably a habit from playing during cawblade era.)
Not having snags, a third harbinger or tidebinder, or the constant internal debate about chalice.....all minor things to worry about overall, eh?

Why the sudden adoration for Chalice and Remand?
I had thought multiple Merfolk players were moving towards 2 spell Pierce main, 2 negate, 2 dispel side?

Not sure we want to go this far down the rabbithole....however using imprisoned in the Moon makes Tectonic Edge turn on quicker, and could even remove said permanant if needbe.

I hate to bring this up again, but what are the potential benefits of siding in Tectonic edge? I understand it tends to come in vs decks like Jund where we board out vials....it takes out manlands and can screw with colors.....but what is it really doing? Is it just for grindy/heavy removal matchups? Why would we want this over other cards?

(I've played merfolk for quite sometime now, almost 3 years off and on in modern, and read this forum almost everyday as it stays really active unlike so many others on this site. Thank you community! )

I've got a big prize local event coming up that ought to have a semi to competitive style environment as the prize is huge, and while I often lean towards Rothgars style lists I'm looking at my options.

Maybe I missed the discussion and considering I hate the art I'm not sure why I'm bring it up, but what are your thoughts on Decimator of the Provinces? I know it's bigger brother Craterhoof isn't played due to cost issues, but the cost on this variant is much more flexible. It is an on cast trigger, however I don't assume that to be too troubling overall. Just curious.

It's even legendary to work with Minamo!

I like these best in a green Rites of flourishing build, but this is awesome. Now you have another way to pitch Waterveil and buy it back later either with Jace, vryn's prodigy or Elixir.

    Sweet deal.

I'm curious as to why P Image has been getting so much press lately. I know it showed up in the gp winning list, however my understanding of the Meta ever since eldrazi and now post bannings to be removal based....did something change to make Image better or is this the regular every couple month cycle on the card to see if it got any better?

As for Harbinger vs Tidebinder, is it still meta dependant or is there more of a stock ideal?

Is there any reason to deviate from the 3/4 tidebinder, 3/4 H recall, 4/5 counterspell/chalice, 2 Relic of Progenitus, 1xx sb that's been played for a while now?

Its been some time since I've been able to play even a local event, but I like trying to keep my list up to ddate, just in case.

I've some questions for the Goblin community. I've played legacy since 2011 however I'm just now getting around to goblins in my legacy classics list. I've been wondering some of the ins and outs of the deck.

Why is there only 1 Sharpshooter in most lists?

How important is Gempalm to the deck overall?

Ways to get the most mileage out of Gempalm?

I'm assuming Tarfire is a point of contention since Tarmogoyf is a pain, and I've overheard a shift to some number of Pyrokinesis main to deal with threats like elves, eldrazi it even delver's boardstates....

That in mind, has there been any talk of going the merfolk route with maindeck Chalice of the Void?

Why is there only 1 "finisher" slot in some of the decks I see, is it a curve based issue?

Chieftain vs warchief, personal preference or needed discussion? Stay at 4 slots or increase?

Are any sideboard cards generally the same in multiple lists or are they as varied as player and splash preference?

Is there any build where Mutavault would be worthwhile?

Thank you for your time, I'm still building my copy and stuck in which way to go so I figured I'd ask around.

Admittedly it's hard to seperate thinking about Grand Architect from Wurmcoil or equipment, but the idea of the 3rd toughness beats out Merfolk Soverign or Kira in theory. Interesting overall. Wonder what else this could lead to.

Against Living End, never assume the game is yours due to chalice alone, as they typically run cards like Ingot Chewer and Beast Within, trying to stall with Gnaw to the Bone till then. Remember to bring in your Relics if you use them because in this match your Chalice will be set to Zero rather than the typical 1.

It's worth it to sac your Cursecatchers to attempt to counter, even if they have the mana required since you'll get them back post End. This play is typically not enough, but every little bit helps. This match in particular is what reminds me that Cursecatcher is better than Cosi's Trickster, as an important g3 was lost due to not having a catcher for my opponents Anger of the Gods that he needed to resolve. He won 4 ftv Legends because of it that day....

I've been wondering, with regionals coming up on the same day as the pro tour, so far I've found I have something like 5 slots main and 3-5 slots open sb that I'm having trouble ironing out.

I feel (Chalice of the Void) is potentially a strong way to fight our semi-known meta either out of main or side but, I can't decide which way to go. Out of the 3 primary variations of Folk, what are the pros and cons between the Classic build (4 snag/dismember/pierce in any combination) the 6-7-8 Seas build, and Chalice main builds matchwise?

As for the rest of the deck most of us agree on the numbers on the rest of the deck, roundabout 28 core creatures, 4 vials and 20 lands, but those slight variations warp how the rest of the deck plays I feel. As I'm a player that gets stuck on all the options while having little playtime, I'd really like to see more discussion between the variants.

(Just in case, for reference I read this thread multiple times a day, loving the discussion of one of our favorite tribes. Merfolk is my primary modern deck and secondary legacy deck, flip-flopped with Burn. I play whenever I get a chance but being I've had a ton of personal stuff and work second shift I don't get to try out all my ideas.)

Thank you all and best wishes my friends!

Has there been any consensus on the best way to build the manabase for the white splash? I've yet to figure out a way that works amongst all the options.
