Any thoughts or changes we should look at now that Deathrite Shaman and Gitaxian Probe are banned?

I'm honestly shocked no one has said anything in here.

Having a 1 mana enchantment to cut off dark depths or more likely thespian stage is pretty stellar. This card is really awkwardly interesting.

    And absolutely beautiful.

If I'm reading that correctly, yes, it can shut off the opponents tron lands. Though not your own.....and being a 1 cost means it's only a speed bump to cast while you clock them.

Hey everyone, looks like some great work going on during the Knight shift. Love the tribe, been playing it off and on since student of warfare was printed.

I was wondering, what about going a little less aggressive with dauntless and going more mid-range with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Smuggler's Copter

I'd guess 23 lands no vials. 3 Gideon 3 copter.
I'm curious to see how good holy nimbus is in the format.

If you were going more aggressive though, please don't forget our good friend War Falcon keeping a knight or solider (Thalia guardian, anyone?) In play should be easy enough especially since History of Benalia came out.

How has Cursecatcher been playing recently? Modern is trying trickster over catcher I'm guessing due to being a more creature/removal heavy format. Given that legacy as I understand it has been shifting this way and storm is being kept in check by delver.....

    Is it worth testing?
Something like the regular fair but with 4 trickster, 2 harbinger, 2 image and 3/4 copters?
Or is there a better way to handle the sheer glut of 2 drops in the deck that way?

Where are we at currently on <c>Merfolk Trickster<c/> and <c>Phantasmal Image</c>? The last list I saw was something like this:

20 regular fish (lords, nemesis, adept and catcher)

    20 land (mutavault, cavern, islands)

    12 effects (chalice, force, vial)

8 slots that were open but typically included some number of image, harbinger, smugglers copter and/or daze and echoing truth.

Trickster looks like it has a higher floor than harbinger due to being flashy on its own, but doesn't take Marit lage off the board etc.
Scg Atlanta is coming up and my friend is borrowing my merfolk so I wanted to give him the best knowledge the school could offer.

    Thank you all.

What have other players's experiences been when fighting against a collective brutality deck? I always read that it's basically the best card ever against burn, but from various games I've played it isn't as backbreaking as often described.

If they have a threat with 3 power or more on the field and Then they use brutality to its fullest, discarding something of value like lingering souls....then I agree it hurts. Otherwise it's 3 resources for 3 resources and we topdeck better than most vs discard simply due to redundancy.

What does damping sphere do for us that we don't already do? Or does it consolidate some sb slots? Because we could really use that.

I'm still wrapping my head around Trickster, I know they're great, excited to find a foil set, but not sure where to put them, nor what kind of tricks we can pull off just yet. Should we start compiling a list of best and worst case scenarios? I saw something spiffy when it came to an attacking goyf but does that work?

Also if we still want to play copter....is there actually room or just stick to it in legacy?

What are everyone's lists at the moment?

    Outside

    4 guide
    4 eidolon
    16 bolt
    4 blast
    4 price
    19-20 land

What do you guys use to fill the flex slots and board?

    Mine at the moment:

    61 Main: 4 swiftspear
    1 Lavamancer
    3 searing blaze
1 sulfuric vortex (don't leave home without it)

    Board:

    1 Lavamancer
    3 searing blood
    1 sulfuric vortex
    2 exquisite firecraft
    2 smash to smithereens
And 6 slots typically up in the air till the day of between pyrostatic pillar, ensnaring bridge, grave hate, ratchet bomb, harsh mentor or mind break trap. Randomly pyroblast but never really certain of what we'd actually want to counter/blow up outside of maybe show and tell. We aren't delver and a couple copies....never was really sold on them. Maybe you guys could open my eyes?

Edit: only time I've ever played skullcrack was when I knew energy field to be played in miracles. Maybe worth revisiting?

Phoenix, I'll ask this honestly as I haven't been able to play legacy for quite some time...where do you find the deck lacking? What against in the meta?

We know we have a terrible matchup with anything reanimator, and sneak/show is still favored against us....other than that I can't see us being too far off due to the format revolving around leovold and friends. (Mid-range value, blue decks with slow clocks, and pyromancer decks.) A cabal therapy chain can put us seriously behind due to the tokens, but that's any deck right?

Storm seems to be falling by the wayside though it still exists. Chalice decks are okay draw depending, and dnt is pretty even last time I saw. If something has changed please let me know? I've got a couple events coming up eventually and I want to prepare.

Also has anyone had success/dissatisfaction with pyro pillar vs neo miracles or leovold /pile decks? Is it really just in the board as additional storm hate? The last build I saw do well in the classic series had a playset in the board.

I would love to see a blue version of Ember Hauler as a merfolk, something like this:

    UU
    2/2

1, sacrifice: counter target non creature spell unless controller pays 2.

    Or

    UU
    2/2
    Etb draw a card
(And make it really busted with this.
    U sac, draw a card)

Or have it do literally anything.

I figure if they can push Rampaging Ferocidon, they can push some merfolk too.

Side note, could someone help me with linking card names? All these years I've read the site and I've yet to figure it out.

Fun stuff aside, I like where mono blue is sitting right now, watertrap weaver having relavent creature type makes it just better than the old kor hookmaster. I wonder if there's an alternative build somewhere based on Stonybrook Banneret worth looking at as we keep having merfolk wizards with multiple generic costs and etb effects printed.

Has there been any consideration to the 2 drop that gains flying if you control another merfolk? Or are we really looking at space issues currently?

Keep up the great work everyone!
And have a Fishy Good Year!

This will seem slightly random but hopefully not out of place. When it comes to the Tropical variant, has Noble Hierarch been considered?
I feel that hierarch has proven to be one of the strongest green cards around and could help tropical in the same way it helps out humans, infect, abzan, and more. Ramp wise we could start rejerey chains a turn earlier and fix the mana a bit.

I understand that it's not a merfolk, and that we tend to turn the team sideways more than a single creature, but in theory the effect is warranted. As for space....I'm actually thinking Aether vial. You'd still be able to have a flashy harbinger between 3 lands and hierarch.

When it comes to splashing we should consider doing the most powerful thing...I feel we should at least rule it out as an option, just in case.

How necessary does it seem to have grave hate in the board? I know a number of decks are utilizing the grave between shadow, storm, etc but is it needed?

If we had to rank our worst matchups, what would you say they are outside of soul sisters?
Maybe eldrazi tron or a good scapeshift hand?

I'm on RW at the moment as that was the last time I was able to play, we had all just started back on shattering spree to fight e tron at the time. May have an event coming up and I want to get back in the swing of things. Is shadow still considered "best deck"?
