The format is too young to know for sure, but I choose Murder of Crows over Slayer. There's not a whole lot of removal that can deal with the Crows, and evasion is super important. The Slayer is very good, but it's more of a reactive card, whereas the Crows have a much higher likelihood of being able to win the game on their own, and that's without the highly relevant upside.
So, basically, here's my evaluation:
Murder of Crows: much more significant threat, lower ability upside.
Slayer of the Wicked: more likely to 2-for-1, but not a threat that will win the game.
I'll take the threat just about every time in these types of cases. Stingerfling Spider vs. Sengir Vampire is similar to this, for example, and I'll take Vampire most of the time I'm faced with that pick.
That's actually not a good example because slayer has more targets than spider did in m12, and white is MUCH better than green was in m12.
You are wrong on this but that wouldn't be the first time you were wrong on here.
Interesting how all these "pros" are choosing murder over slayer. To me slayer is the certain pic, imo the best uncommon in limited which is splashable.
I played with it in sealed and it ALWAYS had targets and i was never not happy to draw it.
People are saying "weaker version of flametongue kavu" but even a weaker version of that is still ridiculous.
Id just like to add that my one loss at the prelease(went 3-1) was in part to being hit for 8, yes 8, from the first time he hit me with that blade. If i remember correctly he had it on the 3/2 werewolf.
I was just sitting there shaking my head because i knew since he went first he get in 1 attack, after that i had answers, and it hits me for +8 right off the bat.
Yeah the evil uncommon Werewolf for 1 in a lowplayed color
Let's see, for less than 3 mana there are:
1 red uncommon
1 red common
1 green uncommon
1 green rare
not that threatening. Also red didn't see heavy play as far as I could tell from the sealed events I've seen so far. So no, I really don't see any reason to follow your argumentation, that a turn 2 blowout by a werewolf is a reason to play first. Actually against Werewolves (which are most likely green and not red based), having the additional card in the midgame seems like a way better plan.
Red saw very heavy play from what i saw it was one of the stronger colors.
In every game i played a werewolf made a huge difference in the game, you saying "not that threatening" is ridiculous.
Or you just play a deck with a curve You don't want to play too few 2-drops, that's right but if you have a solid curve, you should have a play every turn from turn 2 on anyway (and drawing would actually help here instead of hinder you). And if your opponent wants to flip his werewolves by not playing a spell...good luck ^^
Except there's going to be alot of times you don't have a 2 drop, and now all of a sudden that 3/2 1 drop has hit you for 6 damage.
Overall from what i say in sealed its a play format, draft may be different though.
Playing does 2 things, lets you have a chance at flipping your werewolves early, prevents them from flipping early.
Got to play in 1 sealed event and 1 draft at the pre-release today. This is a thinkig mans format. So much going on you have to pay attention to. The format is quite slow. Almost every match went to time. Talking 60 players in the sealed portion and multiple 8 man tables for draft. Yes some got done early but, even those winning 2-0 ended with little time left in the round. The flip cards didnt cause near the problems I thought was going to be but, you have to pay attention to your opponents DSCs as well as your own. Seems to be a tension filled, thought provoking format. A nice change of pace.
Good these are the formats i like, ill be playing tomorrow prerelease
As others have said it seems really mediocre. I mean, in a format with no flashback then yes it would be pretty good, but considering that its really only a mediocre card in this format.
Forgot to add, the random aspect of the card could help or hurt you. If your opponents low they might make bad blocks because they dont want to die to it.
Hes a cheater. What he should have done is declared attackers and asked "any response". Then you have your chance to tap down his guys. He was trying to rush you, next time call a judge over because im sure they would side with you on this.
Enjoy if you will read it all. I hope this helps someone. I probably won't be able to discuss anything for a while as I am going to be busy for the next few days but if you do read it, thank you.
Are you an English major? I would think this would be painful for most people to type up, useful information though.
I think it will be slower than m12 and will also take more skill. Topdeck wars and mana flood will be less of a problem with all the draw cards/flashback available. Looking forward to it.
So this set seems to be less of a "rares and mythics are flat out insane" kinda format, and more of a skill-testing one. Hooray. However of course there are still some packs where you thank your lucky stars to open.
So again we'll compare the rares and mythics in this set against the best common and two best uncommons, and see which we would first pick regardless.
Best (most likely to first-pick) common: Brimstone Volley
Best uncommon: Slayer of the Wicked? Morkrut Banshee? Don't see many bomb uncommons like Fireball and Overrun in this set.
So by my reckoning, you take these cards:
Angelic Overseer
Dearly Departed
Mikaeus, the Lunarch
Mindshrieker Sturmgeist
Bloodgift Demon
Bloodline Keeper
Reaper from the Abyss
Balefire Dragon
Devil's Play
Falkenrath Marauders
Instigator Gang
Daybreak Ranger
Garruk Relentless
Kessig Cagebreakers
Moldgraft Monstrosity
Geist of Saint Traft
Olivia Voldaren
Manor Gargoyle
Cards that will go early, but maybe not bomb-level -such as Divine Reckoning (it's no Wrath in Limited), Ludevic's Test Subject, Curse of Death's Hold, Liliana, Mayor of Avabruck, Evil Twin.
Then there are cards I just can't rate at all, or require you to build around them more than you do the other bomb rares. Like Skaab Ruinator, Grimgin, Splinterfright, Essence of the Wild (how good are these two green rares?) Heartless Summoning, Mirror-Mad Phantasm, Army of the Damned (depends on the speed of the format.)
Have I made any glaring errors here? Any additions to the bomb rare list? Is there some bomb uncommon I've overlooked?
I windmill slam that so hard the table shakes, card advantage that feeds the power of it and it flys, cant get much better in limited.
Especially considering the removals kinda weak in this set.

Hanweir actually is close but id take moan

Overall i think its a nice card that favorably trades the majority of the time.
I like looter and the tap removal alot better though

Same with bloodgift demon
