In regards to Tree of Redemption, is there a situation where it is better than bristle boar? (or that 3 CMC beast that sacs for 4 life) I don't want to spend money on the tree when a common could possibly be better in most situations.
Mono-red
Boar nets you +6 life (4+anything u block or removal they use to remove it)
Tree - resets your life to 13, takes a turn to use, 1 mana more, hero of oxid ridge runs through it.
G/W Tokens or Humans
Boar again nets you +6 life and acts as a blocker for 1 power tokens. O-ring proof (usually whites only removal)
Tree can repeatedly block, O-ring Vulnerable, 1 mana more, 1 turn to activate but again resets your life to 13.
Control matchup / Mirror / Solar Flare / Any slower matchups
You don't side either.
Am I right in thinking that people are just using Tree of Redemption as a new goodie syndrome?
boar nets you life for one turn. tree nets you life forever unless they can deal 13 damage to you in one turn.
i dont understand the concept of running painters servant unless your going to run like summoners pact or dramatic entrance with non green creatures like iona....
TaN will find iona without the servant...
maybe you should read Iona's ability and how it relates to colors that your opponents control.
3 5cc creatures is and 3 4cc spells is not good with Dark Confidant. You don't want to lose 4 life to Wrath the board or 5 life to land a creature that can just be removed.
you can respond to him targeting the fetchland by tapping it and sacrificing it. if you tap it and sacrifice it he can't respond to it because it would be in the graveyard already as part of its activation cost.
so you would get a land either way. the only thing that can stop a fetchland is Stifle and cards like it that counter activated abilities.
is it really that fast? i haven't played any games really so i don't know how fast it can go.
i'm thinking 4x Overgrown Battlement and 4x Wall of Omens. Stops aggro until you can slam your planeswalkers and they protect your planeswalkers as well if you don't have Doubling Season out.
but if you're saying the format's too fast to get to 5 mana cause of combo then this deck probably won't work.
i mean this deck would probably fold to combo elves or hypergenesis.
I dunno if that's overkill on the planeswalkers, but Gideon comes into play with 12 counters, and forces creatures to attack him with +4 counters each time. He's pretty much unkillable.
the others are debatable but Gideon would be my basis for the deck.
Anyways, Viscera Seer is the best sac out let because it lets you win if you have it.
You can Green Sun's Zenith for Kitchen Finks and infinitely scry while gaining life until you find a Murderous Redcap and then you can sac it infinitely to win. I definitely think Fauna Shaman should be a 4-of in any green deck that is using creature-based combo. The thing is that Melira is just so fragile that it's hard to get her to stick around unless you can go t1: Seer, t2: Melira, t3: Finks t4: win. that's assuming that they have no removal which is a pretty big assumption.
I played Naya in standard at the same time as Jumanji and Stoneforge was awesome. Hawks + Swords = amazing. Collar + Sparkmage was important as well. It might not go so well in Jumanji but that isn't to say that it's not powerful enough that if you're playing Squadron Hawk with Fauna Shaman and Vengevine, you should consider Stoneforge Mystic as you can pitch a Squadron Hawk to search for one. It helps recur Vengevine and gives you even more card advantage whereas the second or third Hawk you cast won't give you more CA.
Breaking Bad
Avatar: the Last Airbender

i don't see how you can even compare the two.

you need a curve that's heavy on 1's and 2's if you're gonna play Dark Confidant. Stuff like Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtseize. Timely Reinforcements works too.

here's a rough draft that i've been exploring
4 Wall of Omens
2 Ajani Vengeant
2 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
3 Gideon Jura
3 Sarkhan Vol
3 Lightning Helix
3 Punishing Fire
1 Tezzeret's Gambit
3 Wrath of God
4 Arid Mesa
2 Forest
4 Grove of the Burnwillows
1 Mountain
4 Plains
2 Raging Ravine
2 Sacred Foundry
1 Stomping Ground
4 Temple Garden
other possibilities: Idyllic Tutor, Oblivion Ring, Ghostly Prison package

Martial Coup is good as well. i can't think of a card to tutor Doubling Season though. if only Sterling Grove were in modern. Oops found it. Idyllic Tutor
decks like this get decimated by board sweepers and combo.
