I would be very hesitant to add non-instant/sorcery spells. You need to make sure every Epic hits as much as possible.

If you are very concerned about reshuffling, just slap a Reminisce into your deck and that will put em all back in there for a restart. Though Time Spiral is the answer really.

If you are in need of untapping lands instead of the Cloud of Faeries, use stuff like Snap so your epic can hit it.

I have to agree with T. Dizzle on Bob in a competitive environment.

But if we are rockin a casual type environment he could be pretty good in some decks.

I cant speak for most of what people plan to do with him, but he is in my Melek deck and I love him there.

Most of my deck is instant and sorceries so being able to cast over half my deck at any time is good.

I understand meta rules are meta rules, and metas determine your EDH list.

How do you determine what makes a good player, good or bad?

Would a good player know to stack a Doomsday Pile at 3 life, 4 open mana, and their opponent with 2 6/7's Tarmogoyfs'?

Would a good Jund Kessig Wolfrun player know how to play around U/W Delver with a commanding lead with 3 rounds till the round ends?

Would a good player know to make a proper Gifts Ungiven/Intuition pile?

Would a good EDH player know to dismantle a Stax player's board with Ancient Grudge and Ignot Chewer? Which 3 artifacts would you destroy to possible slow down their tempo or mess up theirr 37 upkeep triggers?

I wager you think that each of those depends on the environment you play in. But a person who really is a good magic player will be able to learn quickly the proper actions for each of those theoreticals by simply playing in the environments those situations are prevelant. A bad player is someone who cannot make that adaptation because of a limited skill set.

You are still giving your opponents control over the outcome of the game.
What if the other players aren't that great, or their decks just aren't up to par?
If I lose because I make a mistake I am fine with that, but if I lose because I relied on someone else I am mad at myself.
I also think what others are saying is true, and that much of what you say is specific to your meta.

    This is a great point.

I think that answer should depend on the types of tribes they use... some of the smaller tribes dont have enough guys to fill that number of creatures.

Whoot this is my 500th post! heheh Wizard Mentor now!

Dan. You don't run spot removal in Mono-Green. Mono-Green is big Green stompy, so it's linear enough it works. Most of your decks contain majority mass removal over spot removal.
You are guilty of this as well.

You want to link every thread that has no spot removal?

How about threads who run enough spot removal to face against unknown meta?

My impression of the MtgSalvation community don't understand the real defintion of competitive and casual EDH. We play competitive list, but with a casual mindset.
I've noticed people who got Jin'd on turn 3 with Torin and I both playing blue, ragged quit.
If it happened to us, we would just want to start another game instead of getting upset.

Well I have been under the Jin lock on 2nd turn before and it sucks. But rage quitting is something I have only done one time. Not much you can do when you are playing two dudes who have no idea what threat identification is.

I dont think the problem is that the community cannot identify competitive vs casual. I think the problem lies in the idea that most of the community is of the mind that there is no real need for competitive. Those that do play the French version. They are a much smaller minority of the playerbase for EDH.

So when you drag stuff like this thread out into the open, most of the people who answer it are of a different mindset. Which T-Dizzle pointed out.

But anyways... I can see in T-Dizzle's meta how spot removal might not be optimal for what he is doing specifically, but I am more than willing to wager spot removal is more than excellent in any competitive EDH environment if the person using it does so in a measured method.

This is what separates good players from those who are not so good.

My friend ran a deck built to troll with Grixis colors (Nicol Bolas as commander) that had that entire attitude in mind. It actually back fired a little bit because it was so oppressive to everyone (including him) that it became fun to play because of the hilarious game states it created.

True.. My deck like that was Zo-Zu (search him up on this message board).

I cackled like an insane drunken goblin as my three foes twitched and shifted uncomfortably on my turn 2 blood moon followed by constant waves of land abuse/destruction.

My go to commander depends on the situation:

    1. Win the game - Prime Speaker Zegana

    2. Show off a pimped deck - Reki or Malek

    3. Play silly tribal - Zuberi (mono white griffins!)

    4. Combo insanity - Marath

    5. Torment folks - Obzedat

Fair enough, since your trying to win.

I have decided.. my deck in your meta is going to be a deck full of answers.

Those answers will be cards with 'split second' and 'this card cannot be countered'

Although a mono red 'crush blue like a giant pimple' answers deck could be fun.

My secret weapon in both cases. No real win condition. Sometimes tormenting your oppenents is more fun than victory could ever be.

I do not really know how to respond to all of this because it is clear you are addressing other issues outside of the part of the discussion I am in.

I understand you are saying that the two orbs are great for stopping multiple folks and such, but what about your deck? What sort of deck are you playing that runs those cards but doesnt hurt itself?

I would say that both of the mana slivers, along with Root sliver and crystalline sliver are mandatory.
