Shadowmore was the block latest block before Scars that did -1/-1 counters that came out in 2008, Scars came out in 2010, so on average every 3 years a block with -1/-1 counters comes out. Its been 3 years sense Scars was released. He is right, we're due for one.
I didn't see any -1/-1 counters in Theros.
In any case, something happening exactly TWICE in the history of a product doesn't exactly establish a pattern.
Ugh, count me out. I'm not a fan of -1/-1 counters. SOM was easily my least favorite block since Shards, and the prevalence of -1/-1 counters contributed to that sentiment.
Plus, I don't know how long has to pass before a return to -1/-1 counters would make sense. Hopefully at least more than 5, I hope?
Of course they were. They have an obligation to protect their bottom line, and it's becoming abundantly clear that Duck Dynasty has (or is about to) crest in popularity regardless of the GQ interview. Standing behind Phil Robertson in this case would not only alienate a large portion of their potential viewership, but hitch their wagon more firmly to a horse whose best days are behind it.
As a serious question, would it have been possible for them to allow the show to continue, without "standing behind Phil Robertson"? In other words, is it possible to say "we are showing this because its good tv, even though we don't support the message this person says in something separate from this show"?
Big Brother this summer had something similar happen. A ton of anti-gay and anti-black comments caught on camera. There were even jokes about child pornography. The dedicated fans that watch the live streams picked up on it and the comments eventually made the jump to the televised show. CBS decided to run with keeping the offending houseguests on the show but with the obvious disclaimers that the network doesn't condone or endorse such viewpoints.
It's funny though, because even though the contestants were allowed to stay on the show, all of their real-life employers ended up firing them.
Except it's much more than a couple isolated incidents, but lazy perusing of the internet would make you think that. Youtube has been ****canning those videos for a long time
Prolific sharers of video on social media still doesn't indicate a national trend. Analyzing data isn't as simple as searching for "knockout game" videos on YouTube.
and as I mentioned earlier in the thread this is a 'game' that has been going on since 2010 on a documented level, so that's almost 4 years now. Hardly an urban myth.
Assuming your "documentation" are the aforementioned YouTube videos? Still doesn't prove anything.
Took my two little ones this weekend. I really enjoyed this film, and I like the creative direction the film has taken away from the book. It's really made it it's own piece.
I really liked the sheer amount of racial diversity shown among the humans in Laketown. The culture in Laketown didn't seem as homogenous as any of the Mannish cultures depicted in the original trilogy and reminded us as viewers that this is a frontier town, far removed from Gondor and Rohan. It also highlighted the distinct advantage of the Mannish races (shorter lives but more adaptability) against the Elves and Dwarves and was a reminder that their time on Middle-Earth was coming to a close.
I also enjoyed the action sequences. It's not supposed to be a grim and epic war story. It's based off a children's adventure book, for crying out loud. Of course the good guys are going to win resoundingly over the bad guys.
The thing that I don't understand is that he is a reality star on a reality TV series. The whole point of reality TV is to have real people (not actors) saying real (supposedly unscripted) things in order to shock viewers at home. He was basically doing what he was cast to do.
Given that the show is a scripted scam, this may be one of the first real things we've heard from him.
Very true. And I'm not a fan of that show, or any reality TV for that matter. And I definitely don't agree with his statement or (for that matter) disagree with A&E's actions.
On it's face, it just seems absurd to me that a reality TV star would go off-script and get fired for it. Just shows how far away the unscripted messiness of real life is from most reality television.
I personally think this whole phenomenon is akin to other urban myths, like "Snapple supports slavery" and the ubiquitous Diet Coke/Pop Rocks myth. There's a few Youtube videos out there but it's far from widespread. The media just needs crap like this to peddle when the news is slow.
A couple isolated incidents across the world does not indicate any sort of growing trend.

Yeah, the offending quote didn't take place on the show but I don't feel that detracts from the basic premise that the point of reality TV (and by extension reality TV stars) is to basically showcase offensive and absurd behavior and dialogue.
Not arguing on the merits of A&E's actions, or the actor's statement, as I feel A&E made the correct decision.
If you're playing against another civilization that is resistant to your tourism, sometimes it takes beating them senselessly to continue your cultural victory.
I was playing as Americans on the Autocracy path, going for a culture victory (achievements, amirite?? :D) and was up against India on Freedom, also going for a Culture victory. I was influential on the other 6 out of 8 civilizations, and I wasn't able to beat the Indians culturally, as they were pretty immune to my charms. The solution for me was to send in a bunch of Marines and Mech Infantry, pillaged their entire nation, and then dropped 2 nukes on each city. All their units (including Workers) were destroyed, and all their tiles were both irradiated and pillaged. In the peace process, I took 2 of their 3 cities, thus enabling the culture victory pretty quickly.
Means to an end!
Also, the newest Civilization I played as (and lost! :o) was Ethiopia. They're powerful but I wasn't focused on my victory condition and ran out of time.
I'm mostly a beer guy, and for me it's usually a Leinenkugel's Hefeweizen.
Honorable mentions to the following: Kona Longboard, Kona Fire Rock, Tsingtao, Schlafly's Pale Ale, Primo, Sapporo, Old Rasputin, Tactical Nuclear Penguin, Yuengling, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bass, Newcastle Brown Ale, Maui Bikini Blonde, Coors, Blue Moon, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Red Stripe, Molson Ice, Paulaner, Dommelsch, Augustiner, Erdinger, Grafenwalder, Grain Belt, Old Milwaukee, and a few others I forget.
You need to watch Top Gear on history channel more or try harder on your dream car. "x car looks cool" is lame. We want to feel the dream and your lust for awesomeness on wheels in your writing. Tell us the specifics of your car choice.
@ Rust Golem, FJ Cruisers are awesome. Beware, Rhino Lining weighs a lot. Still an awesome idea for cleaning. You will need water proof electronics though.
Yeah, man, it's great for cleaning. I have a buddy who has a Rhino Liner interior for his Jeep and I envy him quite a bit when it's time to clean out the interior. It ran him a bit of money ($500+) but in my mind it's completely worth it.
I'm at the beach a lot, so needless to say I get a TON of sand in my F-150, and it's annoying as hell to constantly vacuum those tiny granules out of the interior carpet.
I haven't asked him about his electronics but I'm sure they're waterproof, as the top on his Jeep is usually off. Good point.
I have a grey F-150 FX4 with suicide doors. I love that truck but it's getting old (10 years+). However, it's great for hauling around the kayak/paddleboard/surfboard/whatever.
I hope my next car is a black BMW 550i (ha!) but I know that's a LONG ways away.
A more realistic option would probably be a Toyota FJ cruiser, those things look awesome. I want to get a Rhino Liner interior so I can just spray it out with a hose when it's time to clean it. Not a fan of vacuuming and detailing.

Archangel of Strife is pretty awesome as well.
Lastly, Emancipation Angel.
