I agree with the basic land card, or maybe having each player optionally sacrifice a land to use the ability instead of a free search.

Extort
Whenever you extort, you may pay WB. If you do, target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the amount of life you've gained this turn.
1/4
My friends allow custom commanders so I am wondering whether this is in any way balanced with costs and stats.
name
name enters the battlefield tapped.
:symtap:: Add G to your mana pool. Landfall: Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, name becomes a 1/5 green plant creature with defender until your next upkeep.
if we attribute it to a vampire hunter of sorts, though it doesn't matter much really, why don;t we use either the name of the poster of the flavor or the ability? granted i don't know their names so they may not be the easiest to use...
Edit: Their names are Yewlas for the ability and draco9 for the flavor
Should i keep the shuffling part in then? and about though jack, would that work for creatures and non targeting spells? Mindbreak trap shows that it is possible to target spells on the stack, and i want this card to be able to grab any spell that is played, from a lightning bolt to a Jace the mind sculptor. the XXU was supposed to reflect the difficulty in stealing a more powerful spell, with the cost going up accordingly, but i do realize that 7 mana to take a 3 mana spell is a bit much... so i can agree with the XUUU
I intended to make the cycle something simple and repeatable, like the first spell learned and one likely always have at hand. The power, or lack thereof, is supposed to reflect how easy the spell is and the recurring is supposed to represent the dependability of the spell. From the first reactions I'm guessing that was a bad idea.
I was wondering if a spell like this would be viable:
Thoughtjack XXU (More Balanced Cost XUUU?)
Instant, Rare or Mythic Rare
Gain control of target spell with converted mana cost X or less. You may choose new targets for that spell.
And the common cycle is a cycle of weak instants that go back to your deck when cast. All will cost X, where X is its respective color. Judging by the comments, I will drop these to X where X is their respective color.
White: Apprentice's Shield
Prevent the next damage target creature or player would receive.
Shuffle Apprentice's Shield into its owner's library.
Blue: Apprentice's Counter
Counter target spell unless its owner pays 1.
Shuffle Apprentice's Shield into its owner's library.
Black: Apprentice's Wither
Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
Shuffle Apprentice's Shield into its owner's library.
Red: Apprentice's Spark
Apprentice's Spark deals one damage to target creature or player.
Shuffle Apprentice's Shield into its owner's library.
Green: Apprentice's Growth
Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

I am wondering if his ability will work though. do the creatures have to be attacking when it is activated? or will it apply to any creatures that attack during my turn?
