    Legendary Creature - Demon (MR)
    If a creature would enter the battlefield under an opponent's control, instead starting with you, each player may bid life. In turn order, each player may top the high bid. The bidding ends if the high bid stands. The high bidder loses life equal to the high bid and that creature enters the battlefield under that player's control.
    Whenever an opponent casts a spell, he or she loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

    If you would scry a card, instead put that many charge counters on Zilean's Tome.
    At the beginning of each end step, remove all charge counters from Zilean's Tome.

    How To Play


    How does this card-making game work? It's simple! Whenever your card receives a vote in the day's poll, you receive [1] point for the month. If your card ends up with the most votes for that day, you will receive [2] additional points for the month. In the event of a tie, each person who tied receives [1] additional point. At the end of each month, the person with the most points on the scoreboard wins that month, then the scoreboard is cleared for the next month. You can participate in as many or as few days as you want in any month.


    Rules



    • Each day you may post any card you want. On the next day all of the posted cards will be put into a poll as long as you voted. If you post more than one card in a DCC thread, only the first card you post will be taken.
    • Your card will not be added to the next day's poll unless you also vote in the current poll for that day (or put your vote in your post). If you vote for yourself, it will not count and your card will not be put in the next day's poll. (You only receive one warning if you fail to vote [the asterisk next to your username]; thereafter, your card will not be added if you miss voting.)
    • [NEW] Effective July 2nd, 2011, all people who wish to have their cards posted on the next day's poll are required to submit exactly two votes for two different people (neither of which are themselves). Casting fewer or more votes than such repeatedly will automatically disqualify your card for the day.

    • If you wish to post a render, please use the hyperlink option when posting your card and make the card-name the image link. Renders are usually large enough to clog up the list, so submit a text-formed card and (optionally) a link in the name to the render.
    • This thread is just for your card submission. Take your questions/comments to our discussion thread.
    • Anyone can post the new thread for the day.

    :symtap:: Counter all scry abilities from sources you control, then scry X+1 where X is the number of cards you would have scried. (For instance, if you would scry 1, then scry 2, instead scry 4).

    The idea came from my room mate activating the ability of two Crystal Ball at the same time and wanting to scry 4 rather than scry 2 twice.

    Is this wording OK or is there a better way to do it? What are the numerical values of action/keywords abilities like scry referred to anyways?

    Here's another idea:

    Major Mechanical Theme: Legends Matter, interest in cards that are good for commander format.
    Top-Down Set:
    Flavor Theme: High Fantasy

    Returning Mechanic: Champion or Grandeur

    Other Mechanical Themes: Equipment, Mounts ala Griffin Rider or Champion Drake, Quests ala Zendikar Cycles, Color identity matters ala Command Tower?

    I was thinking of tapping into the backstory based around the DnD race, Tiefling:

    Long ago, Bael Turath was one of the greatest nations in all of humankind's history. In the Empire, the noble class was completely obsessed with preserving and gaining power. Rumors of their schemes and obsession with power reached a realm called the Nine Hells, located around the Astral Sea. The devil creatures that resided in the Nine Hells gave the noble and ruling classes of Bael Turath visions while they slept, which contained the directions for a grisly, month-long ritual that would extend their rule into eternity. The details of the ritual have been left unclear in the books from the Player's Handbook series describing the events, though it is described as being very horrible. As the ritual demanded the participation of every noble house, those that refused where wholly slaughtered. Once this was done, the nobles and ruling class began their ritual. Afterwards, devils from the Nine Hells began to appear and the nobles gladly made pacts with them. These pacts gave power to the nobles and their descendants forever, but also gave them the devilish features of horns, non-prehensile tails, sharpened teeth, and red skin. Thus began the race known as the Tiefling.


    So long ago, the major and most powerful human civilization sold their souls to the devil so to speak and became this new race which, having been the major dominating force before, still reign supreme today, however the lands of [insert plane name here] have become "hell on earth" due to the over extending arm of demonic influence over them. The plotline would put focus on overthrowing a demon who has seated himself as monarch over the realm and restoring peace and honor to the regal Tieflings and their relations with the other fantasy realm dwelling inhabitants.

    Racial structure: Humans, Kithkin, Faeries, Tieflings/Demons, Dwarfs, Elves.

    Another avenue for GUB, counting green as the core color, would be to bring back Proliferate as the returning mechanic and then have fungus/spore counters be the major theme supporting that wedge.

    Make sense. MTG has been big on resonance lately. Especially given the response that Kamigawa block had based on unfamiliarity. These I just found easier to allocate to a color. Since Aether, Wind and Water would normally all be Blue. That aside, the thread, being a question in the first place I take has been discussed and answered. Poor idea/execution. (Back to the drawing board.)

    Meh. Just thought it'd be a cool avenue to dive into since focus on the Elements is a commonly used trope both on these forums and on the GDS2 wiki for plot lines. Figured steering away from Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Wood, Steel ect and focusing on something that Magic already had to offer would be a feasible set idea. Again, this is just a brainstorming thread and not a solid commitment to the idea itself.

    Seems pretty in depth and full of valuable resource for the amateur designer.

    So I've put my other idea of monocolor matters on hold for a while until I can figure out how to execute it in a way that would make limited more playable. Until then though, this set idea also got me excited.

    Major Mechanical Theme: Tribal?
    Tribal Focus: The five "Elements" of Magic. Based off of the original spellbomb cycle. :symw:: Sunbeam, :symu:: Aether, :symb:: Necrogen, :symr:: Pyrite, and :symg:: Lifespark

    Mechanics: Tribal instants and sorceries with types of magic correlating to the five "elements"

    Alchemy X mana (As you cast a spell, you may pay this card's alchemy cost and exile it from your graveyard. If you do, add its effects to that spell.)

    A riff off of Splice onto ... A one time reuse of a card, sort of like flashback, but you can mix and match what all effects you add onto a single spell.

    Transmute as returning mechanic?

    Reprints Sunlance, Prodigal Pyromancer?

    Elemental Mechanical Identities:

    Sunbeam: Lifegain, damage prevention, tapping, protection from X, damage redirection,

    Aether: Bounce, unblockable, counterspells,

    Necrogen: Discard, mill, graveyard hate, -X/-X, edict effects, remove counters from permanents "aka planeswalker hate"

    Pyrite: Burn, ritual effects, haste, land destruction?

    Lifespark: Land animation, tokens, +1/+1 counters, ramp, creatures matter

    All of these could probably use some cost overhauls. The first one could be a really agressive 1/1 for U or 1U.
