  • posted a message on Boxes or Singles for Cube and Commander
    Hello!
I'm in a serious debate with myself and my finances about Magic this days.
As with the coming of RtR, I'm having trouble deciding between buying boxes or singles. I play cube (it's up to date as of now) and Commander (about 5 decks, only one of them has the color another one have). I also have a built modern deck that I play sometimes, but not competitively.

I fortunately can afford to buy 2 or 3 boxes of RtR (the flavour is appealing), but I don't know if it will be cheaper to buy singles.
Basically, I think with 2 boxes all the cards I want for my cube and Commander (since they are one-ofs) can be found, and maybe some update for my deck - I don't play competitively but it's T1.

    Opinions?

    Thanks!

I might exchange Blade Splicer for Mentor of the Meek. What do you think?
I have a 450 that heavily support's aggro and midrange (it has a lower curve than usual).

Everyone forgot that Richard Garfield worked on this. It might - and I think it will - work just because of that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some Dark Zoo or Dark Bant start showing up. What discard can hit lands though. Hmm. Man if Vindicate was in this format 12post would be a joke.

subzero9700's list is a Dark Zoo (25th). With Tribal Flames, I like it.

It's strange that bombwizzi702's list could easily be a Mytical Teachings deck but it isn't. It's not worth?

I'm impressed. The capacity that people on this forum have, together, to solve this rumor and fake puzzles are really good. If there were a bunch of people that worked almost like the hive mind here to solve some world economic and social problems, at least they would know where is everything heading towards, unlike now.

I agree that this is almost certainly promotional viral advertisement. Is it significant that the video is russian but the guy doesn't say anything and all the cards are in english?

Unless his uncle was english/american or bought Magic abroad, haha, no. It is significant, there are russian cards: http://magiccards.info/wwk/ru/31.html

So a creepy blank book, and cards with faded text boxes. I'd wager that in a few days time we'll get another video with the guy stating that writing has started to appear in the book, and on the cards. Keep an eye on the account.

    That's a really good guess.

    This is fantastic:

@bassethound85 You seem awfully familiar with how to transcribe a Magic card to text for someone who hasn't played since their uncle taught them. Which is presumably long before Flashback was a mechanic. Your hesitation to reveal the rest isn't helping either. So, obviously, this is viral marketing. But I'll bite anyway:

What kind of sounds do you hear? What does the book say? Does it speak to you? LAY YOUR SECRETS BARE DESCENDANT OF SKIRSDAG CULT SCUM!

Price really isn't a good gauge, but it does show people that you don't have to spend $1000 to build a quality deck, yet.

That's my point. The meta is still shaping.

It's funny how the most expensive deck there (MantafahrerXY's Junk) lost to some of that other "cheaper" decks. None of them seemed really tuned.

And only one had graveyard hate for Living End, that also did 3-1.

Well, there are some decks that does not seem very cheap.

And that Magus of the Candelabra on the last 12-post Mono G scares me.

It's actually 12-post G with U for Thirst for Knowledge.
    EDIT:
And Vedalken Plotter. Side for the same card?

    Shamans? What the hell.
And that affinity dek appears to be good.

EDIT2: And for those who said Pod couldn't be made of 1-ofs, here's a list against that.
But I really don't know if any of those could be considered competitive.

If you have one Goyf, run it. And run 3 of either Jotun Grunt or Skinshifter in place of the rest until you can get em. Maybe even Watchwolf... In other words, no, there really isn't a good substitute for goyf.

I see. Skinshifter is a good idea, as is Jötun Grunt. Thanks, I'll see what I can do!

Is there anything that could substitute Goyf? I only have one so it's not worth it. Thinking in Dark Zoo.
