In all seriousness, we gain an important tool in Crux of Fate. Five is, for now, the standard sweeper mana cost. Now instead of two turns setting up a wrath, we can swing it out of nowhere. We lost the ability to wipe Planeswalkers with Crux, but the trade off is more than fair and we don't have to stop using Perilous Vault all together.
Another key piece is Silumgar, the Drifting Death. Flies under Elspeth(to where you can ignore her almost entirely), wrecks Jeskai Tokens if it's on board and they're not going off on you, and provides a protected body immune to spot removal with a huge butt.
Consideration nomination for: Rakshasa's Disdain. It is a less mana intensive Counterspell with a high ceiling of use.
Judging by MARO's article, Dragons of Tarkir will be a dual colored set. The Legendary Dragon cycle will preview the abilities of the mechanics in Dragons of Tarkir. Bolster, Raid, <Plague> UB, <Freeze> UW, and <unknown> GR. The clans will merge with the dragons and be Dragon Clans. Working in tandem to fight the other clans instead of humans vs dragons. With clans being dual colored, I also imagine the clans dropping the third color either all together, leaving it only in activations, or keeping three colors but only hybrids and watermarks keep them unified to a clan. Storywise, I imagine Bolas had some hand in corrupting the dragons the humans revered so much which led to the humans vs dragons element.
Looking forward to building this for Legacy. I'm currently playing it for Modern and building it into Legacy over time. The deck looks sweet, especially turn 1 Chalice of the Voids, which I think is a huge reason to play this in Legacy. The above list by Dobbin is sweet and tackles a lot of the meta problems right now.
Hope they're in the next Phyrexian block. Full art lands, showing the pure corruption and torture the land has endured in its transformation in the last XX years. Why do full art lands have to be bright and charming?
What do you guys think of metagaming and playing 2-3 Chalice of the Void main board?
Hits most draw spells, lightning bolt, Delvers, and Vapor Snag. It can really do a number on Affinity if you know you're playing against it (t1 g1 Inquisition: hit a Ravager/Plating, drop your Opal, and drop chalice for 0.) amazing against Zoo, which is really poised to do well in the current metagame again. It slows down Splinter Twin considerably or at x=3, lock them out of the game. Jeskai Ascendency is looking like a popular choice for combo players, stops a lot of their filter/trigger. Against Tron or Scapeshift it needs other choices in the board to be subbed out, but it's a fantastic card I feel we always want G1 before we know what we're playing. It also hits a lot of fringe decks.
I'm pretty sure in these lists Brimaz is the wrong choice. He would be the decks only early drop that requires double white mana. Removing Brimaz and fixing the mana to be more geared to B and G would help to smooth out the manabase. Brimaz is more suited for BWR Tokens or Mono White than it is in Junk (Abzan). Brimaz doesn't ramp or provide advantage and he doesn't do anything the turn he enters play.
Personally, I like to go a bit more spell heavy. Not Reanimator style but bearing that option. Rescue from the Underworld is sweet, EOT sacrificing Caryatid to get back Siege Rhino and/or maybe a Scuttling Doom Engine if you want to go for the homerun ball. Nothing like your opponent Thoughtseizing a Doom Engine only to go Turn 4 Rhino Turn 5 Rescue. Gah-rosssssss.
Two abnormally large sets in a year as opposed to three for a block. Followed by a Core set in its usual slot. Except for the fact it's listed as three already... Nevermind lol
Or I'd agree with a previous posted that it's one block that visits multiple planes. Phyrexians, Eldrazi, and "???"
No but really these will be no less than 100 dollars if they have anything good in them. There is no point to looking forward to these, it'll be marginally cheaper than the contents card for card or exactly as expensive as card for card. Reprints of cards is the key you're looking for here more than affordable pricepoint because that isn't a reality.
I don't get why they would neglect to give black a sweeper. They already get the best removal. Why should that be limited to single target? They have sweepers, albeit conditional, but still board wipes. I want Damnation (or functional reprint) in every core set from now on, along with Day. Make it BBBB for all I care in a functional reprint, just allow Mono Black the resources to exist and not be dependent on other colors to exist.
