In my opinion, they are the perfect box for a Magic Cube! Heck, it even looks like a cube! Plus storage for extra stuff like dice, counters etc... Simply fantastic!
For real. It doesn't even make sense flavor-wise. Why in the hell is a Spider... able to make INSECTS? It really needed to make spider babies. Spiders make good mommies for the most part, carrying those things on their backs and all.
Yes, totally agree here. Spiders should make more spiders. EPIC FLAVOR FAIL!!!
But back on topic...to me he is also a "meh" card. Unless you are running a specific R/G deck (i.e. Ulasht), there are just too many other good R/G creatures I would rather have instead of this guy. If only the 1/1 tokens also had Reach....
Why do you say that? Just wondering what your reasoning is. I mean, they could still reprint the fetches in other products like Duel Decks, Commander products etc. right?
So true. Suddenly filter lands seem much more plausible. I still don't see them printing 10 rare lands in a set. Maybe it will just be a series of awesome lands. Murmuring Bosk, Reflecting Pool, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth along with City of Brass.
Possible but doubtful since they JUST did a FTV Realms (i.e. Lands) with a bunch of awesome lands. Filters make the most sense here but I could also see the Future Sight duals "cycle" making it as well. Either would be fine in my opinion.
If you look at the purpose of this set, which is to obviously reduce the barrier to entry cost to Modern. Will that be achieved if Goyf is just $10 less? I don't think so. While I don't think every card will absolutely plummet. I think we are looking at Goyf being a $50 card.
True but $50 is still half of what Goyf used to be. He was a $100 card at one point. $50 per card to me is much more "accessible" to the Modern player than $100 per card...especially if people want a playset of them.
Fungal Reaches and other time spiral storage lands seem to get under-played. They don't come into played tapped and they can immediately tap for a colorless mana. In multiplayer these lands have time to build up and give you something to do with your mana at the end of an opponent's turn.
I second this. I like the Time Spiral storage lands a lot. They are underplayed in my opinion but our games tend to go longer than most so you do have time to build up your counters. Too bad they are only in allied colors. Wizards: Time to make enemy Time Spiral storage lands!!!
I think Vraska is good. But that's it. She's not Jace. She's not over the top. She's just good. Like any mythic or PW should be. Honestly, I think she has great balance, and R&D should get some good credit on that one. They are getting a lot better at crafting PW's. Thank god.
Tiger
Totally agree here. R&D is steadily improving in the PW development department. Vraska's actually a well-balanced PW...NOT the over-powered, undercosted 4-of mistake that goes into almost every blue deck known to man (i.e. JTMS!).
I really like the vibe from Izzet but ultimately I choose Azorious at the Pre-release to better match my skill-set. As for Gatecrash, I'll need to see the cards first, but I'll probably end up choosing between Dimir and Boros as they were my two favourite guilds from Ravnica block.
Ask yourself, would you sell the box you preordered for $100? Because when you decided to preorder you could have bought a tundra then. However you chose to preorder the box. Why?
This is an excellent point. You had a $100. You could have just bought a Tundra yourself but ultimately chose to buy a box of RTR boosters. I think you answered your own question really...
Oh man.......really? I'm depressed. Ravnica is Blue's funeral.
I'm dead serious.
Ummm...we have like 91 cards spoiled so far? We don't even know what else Azorious gets...let alone what good cards Dimir and Simic will get in Gatecrash. Pretty early to write off blue don't you think?
As for the Loxodon Smiter...it looks like an upgraded Watchwolf. Watchwolf took power creep for vailla beaters up a notch and this is similar but I would not say better.
Talking to a lot of players so far, most seem to really like the new art versions more than the older Ravnica ones. I dunno...will people Pay/Trade a Premium for an Alternate Art RARE Non-FOIL Non-PROMO that has the same Modern Frame type???
Perhaps a few collectors but I doubt the average standard player would really care about the old vs new art as long as the cards are playable at their LGS and tournies.
I would imagine that both the new and old Shocks trade/sell at pretty much the same prices for awhile even though there would be more of the new arts ones floating around.
Yeah I like the old set up better too. it makes trading easier if everything is on the same page. Hopefully it's just a bug and not an official functional change in their website design.
Thanks for the update Ben. Can you answer some follow-up questions:
1) Is it possible that SCG will host Modern Opens in the future? i.e. are you guys open to the idea?
Note: You don't have to replace the Legacy/Standard Opens...just maybe add another side event option for Modern Players.
2) And if so, what would you need to see/happen to make that a reality?
Thanks in advance...

Nice catch! Both cards drawn by the same artist too.

Pile A:
Snapcaster Mage
Pile B:
Angel of Serenity
Both are $25 on SCG as of today. Which is the better choice in the long run?
