I see Seasons past as an amazing rebuild card. After a few wipes you'll have lots of targets. Its more of a just-incase card. I've always liked and added "plan b" into decks I build. It has great synergy no matter what though.
I'm currently attempting to build some sort of UW heavy control deck. I am torn between Rasputin and Agustin. I have most of the cards gathered, I just haven't had the willpower to begin building.
Similar God is a little animar in my list. I have won (passing) turn four with a turn 2 bloom tender, turn 3 animar turn four cast 3 2 cost guys and cast ancestral statue for a 100/100 animar. I love survival. I have won. Durning another players combat with survival. Plainchron is the key. It's a win when cast. Play peregrine drake instead. You will need a bounce engine. Morph rattlesnakes are the best. I won't a multiplayer game with morph creatures the other day. The sharuum player was all cocky and ready to win, he wasn't going to win. I had willbender and the instant sorcery counter morph and a mana drain creature in hand. I also had him at 20 commander damage before he lost. Animar can be an avenue of victory. Imperial is the boss. Play counter creatures to stop field wipes. Be weary of people talking about a dedicated 1v1 list and a multiplayer list. There is a difference.
Evolutionary leap is cool, but I'd rather run survival and just fetch the card I want than spin the wheel. Plus you have to pitch a creature on the field. Its cool and could be a budget friendly alternative to Survival or even Fauna Shaman, but I ultimately will pass.
gelf, true that. I got too excited about nissa. I didn't read it all the way through. I still may try her out. She was potential and overall the most important aspect is that she puts a counter on Animar.
4Zuresky, my Animar list is 82% foil 7% unfoilable.
I am excited for Bounding Krasis and its combo potential, Woodland Bellower for its tutor potential, Mizzium Meddler for its targeting potential, and maybe even Nissa for her ramping and drawing. All you have to do is plus one her all day and profit. At worse she is a Farhaven Elf. Its getting harder and harder making cuts.
I've been dealing with a lot of wrath effects and I've had trouble recovering too. However, I did notice that having a lot of drawing power helped replenish my hand with more creatures. I added as much counter ability as possible using creatures such as Voidmage Husher for pernicious deed, engineered explosives, ratchet bomb, Venser, Shaper Savant for any spell that may help stall one turn or two then bounce itself and recast again. Swan song for any sorcery/instant. Then glen for recursion countering. Because of my opponents always targeting my Animar, I also play opal palace. It helps you get your foot in the door when you recast him with some counters already on him. It really helps speed up things that much more especially with Hardened Scales in play.
Edit: typos
Do you find yourself using opal palace often? I have always wanted to run it but don't want to slow my mana base down with colorless mana that is avoidable.
For the record I run all the creatures in Animar. They are amazing. I even ran voidslime, FoW, and the GU mana drain for a while. They were all alright but were ultimately cut for creatures.
Off topic: I have been playtesting the new biorhythm on legs and it Is mediocre at best. It does a fair impression of Bloom Tender and helped ramp in that way, but I had won the games I cast him before I had enough mana to use his ability. I think he will be cut soon. I have the bouncy sabertooth in, but have yet to cast him.
I use a green Dragon Shield mat I've had for years. It has so much history. It interesting that people always ask me about it. The art is simple and not really eye-catching.
I made a custom mox mat that is similar to the limited edition one, but my own design and haven't printed it yet. I want to make an Animar playmat also.
I've cast it turn 4 with Animar and even with ramp, I won before I could pay the cost. It's steep and easy to kill. It was a creature that ramped me to the win.
Willbender combos with cloudstone and can be used to bend more abilities like extra turns opposed to creature targeted abilities.
Stay classy.
