Is there any way to counter Obliterate? Well, not counter it, per se, but to keep it from taking effect? I know you can 'counter' spells like Last Word by Misdirecting it to target the Misdirection, but Obliterate doesn't target. Besdies removing all artifacts, creatures, and lands from the game in response (which still wouldn't counter it... grr...), is there any way to keep an Obliterate from taking effect? -Jack

The last two answers are a bit confusing, although correct. You can ///target/// choose a land multiple times if it fits multiple criteria, but if there are not enough lands in play to destroy one of each, then you just destroy as many as possible. But you can't choose to not destroy a land type just because it is yours. If you're the only player with, say, a mountain, then you have to destroy it, along with as many other land types as possible. -Jack

edit: Thanks for the notice. I made the biggest mistake when figuring out rules... not reading the card. Tongue

P.S. - How do I strike text out?

Agreed. The deck is a good deck, but it seems your problem could be much better alieviated with Silhana Ledgewalkers over longer lasting pump. The O-Naginata is okay, but there are plenty of ways to take care of an artifact/equipment. The Gruul deck I run uses the Ledgewalker, but Frenzied Goblin isn't as good with the strong removal in Standard. Also, the Ledgewalker is much better evasion. Unless U/W flying gets popular, it'll probably stay very powerful. -Jack

I saw this on someone's post and it confused me... I don't remember where, but he said that all permanents have summoning sickness. I couldn't find it in the rules (I didn't have a lot of time), so I was wondering if someone here could help me. If I play a basic land, even with summoning sickness, could I still tap it for mana the turn it comes into play? This just really confused me, thanks. -Jack

    Quote from darkasecas »
yes to both, X the cost of a spell in the stack is whatever it was set to when playing it, so in both cases the CMC of the spell is 2 and can be countered with spell snare

I don't believe that is true. I thought that the Demonfire would always have a CMC of 1, no matter what the X was set to. The same for Chalice of the Void, I thought its CMC would always be 0. Can a judge verify darkasecas, or can someone show me the rules quote that verifies it? Thanks. -Jack
