Why do people think that Damping Sphere is a good SB option for us, we don't play many 1 or 2 spell turns. I guess if you are playing it after you have the board you want and before you can go off and Storm potentially can or Tron can play Eugene, then ok. Problem is that these decks are already packing Artifact hate so they are not really forced to make any deck changes for it. Now other decks that want to play the limited spells a turn game like control and walker midrange type of decks will love it. It is actually REALLY good against us, so we must start assuming that it will be coming in against us from a lot of decks and SB accordingly in the future.
Example : On the draw. T1 Land > H.Druid. T2 Land > D.Elite trigger, get token. Tap all 3 get GGG cast at the most 1 more creature that cost less than 3 if Sphere is in play. So no Archdruid, Ezuri, Sage or Stampede. We have to basically take a turn off to deal with it and if you can't, it is going to severely hurt you.
I played the Sultai vers. this weekend at 2 different PPTQ's. Made Top 8 at one losing to U/W control first round and then Sunday's was abysmal, 1-3, no marvel games and really bad spins. Really considering moving to the Temur Flamecaller version.
Believe it or not probably the best colorless answer to Death's Shadow outside Chalice is Ensnaring Bridge. It does lend itself to somewhat keeping us from attacking but in these scenarios we can fall back on Walking Ballista's and Endbringer's as a valid way of closing out the game. Also, with the Bridge in order to keep your hand size low still run out your creatures and drop an Ulamog or Karn when you get critical mass. Plus we already run a number of Relic of Progenitus which combats Goyfs and K-Command shenanigans.
I've played well over 100 matches with this deck since picking it up last summer for Modern WCQ in Lincoln. Deck has gone through many changes since then, mainly the advent of Walking Ballista being the key to catapulting the deck to tier 1-1.5 status. The more reps you can get with it against the vastness that is the current Modern Meta is your biggest weapon, the deck has definitive answers to alot, it's the fringes that take play and reps. The deck is ever evolving with the meta and it's good to have a solid Tool Box Sideboard available IMO.
Great job on the primer! I have been on this since the Eye ban and have been grateful with all the help in this thread. Thanks for taking the time to do a proper primer.
Just a few flex options too mention. Emrakul, the Promised End as I have had great success when I drop her as early as T4, Mindslaver and Protection from Instants is huge. Oblivion Stone is still a great catch all removal that can be put into play off a Reshaper. Also, a couple trick's with Spatial Contortion, can pump anything except for Reshaper This is especially effective with unblocked Smasher's as they are usually allowed to get in free anyways due to Trample and extremely sneaky when used on a Spellskite. Another possible sb option is Sundering Titan, very good Vs. Scapeshfit and 5c Zoo (not like that's a thing anymore) anything running a greedy mana base. OK, that's all for now. Again, awesome job on the primer and sweet ass logo, Go Team Chrome!
On a side note, I'm a little weird but I like my sleeves and box to kinda match my deck, I. E. I have my Atarka Goblins Deck in Matte Red Dragon's, a Red Deck box and I usually play it on my SCG IQ Goblin Guide mat. What I was wondering is what is everyone's prefered color scheme for EldraziTron, I currently run Matte Purple Dragons in a Black box. Also, has anyone foiled this out and if so does it have a sweet chrome look to it?
On another note. I am moving away from Simian Spirit Guides for now. They're great and all when you get to live the dream and get things down way ahead of curve but they feel too all in. I am still running a pair of Gemstone Caverns as it seems to be magnetized to the top of my deck recently. Inline with my previous post, I am moving to running 2 Ballista's MD and 1 Bridge in the side.
What I was going to sleeve up when AER ships.
Normally you are trying to turn 1 on 1, it will Slow down almost every deck in the format, putting it on 2 is also a valid line as well. Basically the faster you get it out the better.
Ghost Quarter is your best friend vs. both Crumble and Moon as it lets you remove the targeted land and allows you to fetch up a Waste. All Blood Moon does to us, as an Eldrazi-Centric list, is make us play a more fair game. This in now way stops us as were are still low enough on our curve to play our early threats on curve without a big drawback. Whereas Crumble to Dust is only good in multiples as we can go on either the Tron or Temple plan, that plus Warping Wail and Ghost Quarter offer some protection's. Just be aware that if your opponent is playing R 60% of the time they are bringing in Moon and close to 80% will be packing Crumble. Decks that don't run Moon due to it hurting their base i.e. Jund and Grixis will almost always be running either Crumble or Fulminator Mage, again Quarter is good against that as well.
