Two goblins, with knives, standing there, look like Goblin Piledriver?
Seriously?
So are these legends located on different planes, then? Considering the one we know of is from Grixis, and the Merfolk is from ???.
Compare the facial features. I'd say the goblin muggers resemble Piledriver (the stout head with drooping ears and large, tan nose) more than they do most Ravnican goblins (Tin Street Hooligan).
Blightning? A cycle of two-color commons in M13 would be cool. Coiling Oracle, Skyknight Legionnaire, Colossal Might... half noncreatures and half creatures, half-reprint and half-new.
Searing Spear is... troubling. Do they think that red shouldn't have an answer to regeneration? It doesn't even make flavorful sense, since trolls in fantasy have a history of being killed by fire.
I'm annoyed by the doomsayers who claim that every efficient creature is the herald of Babytown Frolics MtG, but I don't want to see spells become just something you put in to back up your creatures.
I just posted a bunch of good cards that are in it. And don,t forget the new cards, some of them are neat and may gain value over time, if only because of commander
They're nifty. I'll pick up Night of the Ninja, a few singles from Chaos Reigns, and maybe the Primordial Hunger deck, even though it feels like an Alara Block intro pack. I can add what I got in the Conflux Jund intro pack.
Anyone who says "Players who want to see staple cards in Planechase are entitled/too picky/out of touch/dumb" is missing the point. Just because a product is aimed for an audience with low standards doesn't mean it's immune to criticism. By that logic, the things could have been made with $3 of obscure Zendikar block commons and they'd still be well worth MSRP because you can have fun with a $3 deck.
Don't compare the decks to an abstract notion of $150 Legacy decks (that you think the unsatisfied players want), compare them to Planechase 1. Balefire Liege, Darksteel Forge, Cabal Coffers... you get your money's worth. The only valuable reprint in this whole set is Ink-Eyes.
Din't get me wrong, I'll buy at least one of these. But I'll also roll my eyes at all the filler.
These don't match up to the first set, that's for sure. So many recent dollar rares... but at least they're evenly matched, more or less? Makes it difficult to decjde which to get. ...Well, except Savage Auras.
I don't really see Koth having an artifact theme even if he is from Mirrodin, but if you're going that route, Phyrexia's Coreplays really well with the theme and could potentially even let you include Rust Elemental. Sure, he's not phyrexian, but he's from the plane. He's not really associated with fire either, but sometimes you have to bend a little when you only have pre-existing cards to work with.
He's also not associated with cougars or giant bugs. Didn't stop them from using those.
And, yeah, some more NPH/Scars cards would have been nice. Phyrexian Metamorph instead of Clone. A Seachrome Coast instead of a Plains.
This deck is Angel tribal that's becoming increasingly less dependent on creature cards and more interested in control. I might start including more token producers and shift this deck over to soldiers.
The lack of organization might be at fault (the website's "export to MTGSalvation" function just made a plain list with deck tags), but those two are in there already. I've considered making Drana the general, in fact.
The idea here is to use Vamps in the early game to secure some advantage while grabbing big-mana cards like Cabal Coffers, Nirkana Revenant, and the Caged Sun I need to get for this. A wipe followed by an Anowon can keep the board under control pretty well on its own, and the deck has numerous punisher effects to further discourage rebellion.
I also want to stick some cards in there that are in my other decks. I'm considering having a "collective sideboard" consisting of cards like Demonic Tutor, Grave Pact, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Profane Command, and other cards that two or three of my decks all want to run.
But I don't see it happening.

I wonder if these decks start off without the odd choices and then get de-awesomed in another step of production.
