I started playing Magic with Scourge in in 2003. After Eventide in 2008, I took a break because of college and other stuff, and recently, I got back in summer of 2013 with Magic 2014. I am just wondering, what the heck happened to this game? A couple of things I noticed:

    1. Every booster pack now have a basic land in them, say what?

Because everyone needs land... or some excuse they made.

    2. New Modern format, looks cool, hoping this will pick up

Not really going to cause anyone who didn't prepare before it went live is basicly locked out to due the costs of entry

    3. When trading, it is all about "value." For instance, "you want this card, which is $25 dollars, and I want this card, which is $8 dollars, and this card, which is $10 dollars. So I need $7 more dollars in cards." The heck? Back then, we just traded cards based on what we needed and how good we deem it to be, not based on what TCG mid says.

This mentality started to majorly set in when the player base went from playing to play to Playing to invest. The game has shifted its focus in so many ways that it no longer feels like the game you left it around. Ex of when I left IF I held onto my legacy deck it would of 4x its price by now due to what I had in it. Most reasons I see is cause people pick up the cards and hold them ether as a "just in case I want to play" or "flip it"

    4. Planeswalkers are kind of a big deal now. Nearing the end of my run, the Lorwyn 5 were introduced. They were fun, but I didn't think planeswalkers would become staples or anything like that. Now, planeswalkers are insanely good.

And have warped the game more so in bad ways then good. Both in actual play and mentality of how the game should be played.
Anyways, these are a couple of things I noticed. Did I miss anything?

The game has turned more into Turn creatures sideways. The rules have been simplified in ways to prevents tricks, Old styles of deck building are completely dead and frowned on, and less diverse events from larger venues.

Update: Might have found someone to design the new desktop mascot. The Name is still Project Broodlord BUT will get a true name on unveiling. She might be designing the Mascot that will also go with my Youtube and Twitter as well to associate with my new system being a recording system. Gotta work details.

i hate wireless internet with my gaming consoles. is this natural?

Yes it is. I went out of my way to buy a 75 foot Ethernet flat cable just to run it from one room to another. Some houses aren't built well for Wifi that requires MAJOR connection.

In the process of thinking what I wanna change now considering how major this build and now a friends build. Also wanting to change my twitter and youtube art to a new style that don't connect to any game and actually create an icon/mascot. The hard part now... finding someone that can make the art I want and sadly on the cheap or free.

Only issue I have with the call is they knew from Sunday that there was a major snow storm Coming Thursday into friday dropping 10+ inches AND another on the Saturday into sunday dropping another few more inches. Sunday was the time to call the cancel. Not Thursday. All ya had to do is post on twitter, main site ON THE TOP, and facebook that Event is canceled due to very bad weather coming. NJ called a state of emergency on weds. Its not about that they canceled.. Its about how they handled it. You ARE the main event in the US. You need to be on top of everything before hand. You had previous storms in the past few weeks as a reference point and they weren't as bad as it this was suppose to be except I think for one (early Jan one).

Forecasts a week in advance often times turn out incorrect. If Star City cancelled the tournament on the previous Sunday and the storm ended up being much less severe, they would have faced a far, far worse outcry.

Given the past few weeks and a weekly snow storm that the ice have not melted from the forecasts have been pretty much dead on over here.

The current upward trend for staples does feel like a bubble. In many places modern brings a horrible turnout, but the staples continue to skyrocket. We are going to hit a point where the barrier to entry is far too high for a vast majority of players. I believe this will cause a level off of prices which will then lead to a decline one. Once the " get the card now before the price is out of control" attitude is gone, staples will become much more reasonable.

It might have a horrible turnout due to the fact most staples are out of peoples range. Sadly the "get the card now before the price is out of control" attitude wont go away. Its only gotten worse. You have in one place too many staples printed in the mythic range, another you have cards that need to be reprinted ether being reprinted in majorly low print(modern masters), another you have a store that runs MOST of the country(USA) events while dictating the value of the staples right out of the gate(by reg hype and writer hype), and too many people using the game as a way to make a quick buck(yes it existed before but its gotten worse the past few years).

The bubble isn't gonna get smaller. Its only gonna get bigger till it bursts.

  • posted a message on Why has Wizards removed combo from Standard?
As a whole the game is lacking more then just combo. Its being boiled down to "play creatures; turn sideways". The old style control where they had 3-4 creatures and that's it cause you didn't sideboard to deal with it is dead. True Prison decks that locked you harshly if you played no answers is dead. One turn combo cause you didn't play an answer to block them out of it is dead. The irony is most of the answers that would be used can be used against many of them as the same bloody card. Pros did answers yes but they also didn't. But they aren't the ones that matter here.. Its the fnms, the kitchen tables, the coffee table, and floor players. The ones who play at home or locally for fun that just refused to deal with what the meta actually is. So how does one correct such a thing? Easy don't print the enablers anymore. Don't allow those decks to exist anymore. but those views of killing those style of decks became solid when they killed them in modern. The only place these decks exist anymore is Legacy and Vintage. One that is going to implode on itself due to rising costs and keeping players out because of it and the other which already did implode and just got worse when moxes and such 2x/3x the price recently. People want these decks to exist BUT yet they don't. You could have 1,000 people here Say YES I WANT THESE DECKS... but sadly for every 1,000 there will be 100,000 that say NO.

Again it all boils down to Wizards and most lower end players want to "Play creature; turn sideways"

Those side by side arms are really nice, shame I could never bring myself to mount anything to my hardwood desk.

You can still do it by building something to attach to OR you can do the wall mounts instead.

They also have mounts that have strong bases that is just one monitor base for many monitors.
