Your argument is invalidated by the fact that it took RoE to make U/W tier 1, and not Jace. Building a deck around one card and saying it is the only reason it wins is a sign of someone who doesn't know how his deck actually works.
I personally haven't seen any Top 8 U/W lists that didn't have him in it. I understand why someone wouldn't want to drop $75 per on a piece of cardboard (or pixels in my case), but it is the best card in Standard, and in my opinion no U/W list is "Competitive" without him. 5 or 6 Jace's in this deck is not too much, especially against the mirror and tons of other decks splashing to play Jace 2 (how many decks splash blue to play Jace B btw?). 6 Jace's all but guarantees you win the Jace war. After rotation he will be even more important imo. Jace tMS FTW!
I HIGHLY recommend this build. After reading through all of the U/W posts this is what I have come up with and am testing with great success. 3 Baneslayer's is brutal, Gideon comes through almost every game, Halimar plus Deprive is of course awesome, 6 Jace's is insane, this is a VERY hard deck to beat. I'm going to keep testing it this week, but so far it has been doing great.
Game plan:
1. Land - Path
2. Land - Counter/Wall/Path
3. Land - Counter + Path/Jace B
4. Land - Counter + Wall/DOJ/Jace 2/Elspeth
5. Land - Counter + Jace B/DOJ/Baneslayer/Gideon
6* Land - Counter + DOJ, Jace 2, Elspeth/Sun Titan
7* Land - Counter + Gideon, Baneslayer
8* Land - Counter + Sun Titan
I have a lot of trouble against it as well. Even if you use your O Rings on the PA's they just use into the roil. Unlimited turns is pretty bad as well. This is a very frustrating match. The only way is to load up on counters imo. Enchantment hate might work.
What do you guys think is the best counter spell setup? I was using 4 Mana Leak and 2 Deprive like many other lists, but when having to play Deprive early the setback in mana can be brutal. Right now Im running 2 Negate and 1 Deprive along with the Leaks, but considering switching out for Cancel. How many counters should we be running, and what setup?
After reading the above posts I am considering replacing two Path's with two Condemn's, but I like being able to exile non-attacking creatures. I have tried other spells besides Deprive, I know it help's ramp, but I usually save it for later anyway. I'm not ready to let go of Uncle Gideon, aka Big Jace and Baby Jace's protector yet. I love the Baneslayers in there, and wish I had room for another but would replace it before Gideon. Gideon has won me more games than any card in this deck bedsides Celestial Colonnade.
I have tried Sea Gate Oracle, and while combined with Elspeth and Sun Titan it is nice, I wouldn't replace Wall of Omens for it. I like the removal combo, but wouldn't mind having an extra negate, just not at the expense of anything else lol. Not sure if I want to keep mystifying maze, or run an extra Tectonic Edge since I no longer use Spreading Seas. It might be nice against the Valakut decks. Any ideas on making my deck better?
Hey MTGS! My name is Jaime aka jland13, I have been reading the forums and decided I should join in on the discussion. I have been playing magic off and on since Ice Age, and recently got back into it via MTGO. I play U/W control, and right now I am working on a Titan Control build. I make rap/hip hop music for a living, and I live in Portland Oregon. You can check it out in my sig if interested, it's really good if I don't say so myself. Anyway, off to the U/W forums to discuss what I came here for, look forward to seeing you all around. I'm jland13 on MTGO if anyone wants to play.
