Well I guess that does explain why they were dismantling the domes of Zaofu, but how the hell do you build something that large in secret?

Also, I guess this is the part where Kuveera gives up any shred of humanity she had left. That was cold :S

As an aside, the giant mech's weakness is to strike from underneath. The spirit cannon can't reach there and has no vision.

True, but some other items are slightly better suited for said snowballing (namely gunblade)

Akali: Mejai's Soulstealer > Sword of the Occult > Guardian Angel > more tankiness. New pro build? (Probably not.)

Only if you can kill someone XD

I REALLY like steins;gate. Like top 2 anime. However, I don't think it's cutesy enough for you. You could give it a try. From your likes I think Tokyo Ghoul might be the best fit.

    Also try Dead Man Wonderland.

Dunno, Tokyo Ghoul is about as far from cutesy as you can get. Also the story ends up feeling woefully incomplete at the end of the first season (like beyond cliffhangery so). I would recommend just reading the manga instead (it's supposed to be MUCH better.

Angel Beats and Stein;s gate are both awesome. I would also recommend Psycho-pass and Toradora

I was under the impression that intent wasn't necessary for a manslaughter charge, only some level of reckless (or negligent) action that resulted in another's death. The use of a choke hold is honestly not relevant through that lens. While this is borderline, I find it absurd (especially given the video evidence) that this didn't at least see a trial. I gave the grand jury the benefit of the doubt in Ferguson because there was ambiguity of eyewitnesses and the forensic evidence seemed to support the officer's claim. Here though I don't see the same ambiguity.

Happy 5th year anniversary, movie thread!

Just rewatched dodgeball. Hadn't seen it in close to 10 years (damn that makes me feel old) so it was sort of nice to be surprised by some of the jokes.

If anyone is interested, NPR is doing a breakdown of the evidence on this live blog.

According to the radio on my way home someone purposefully ran their car through protesters in Minneapolis MN today...

    This is really ridiculous

Here's more on that story. Apparently the car tried to drive through an intersection blocked by protesters. Several protesters apparently jumped on the hood of the car after the driver honked their horn. The driver then tried to move forward and hit one of the other protesters nearby. The other protesters began attacking the car following the incident before it took off. The driver is currently in police custody, has not yet been charged, and is supposedly being cooperative.

I don't have access to a VPN at the moment, but the video is attached so draw your own judgments from that.

I'm very disappointed right now. Not because of the protests and riots but because a good majority of my friends on FB are jumping on the "Darren Wilson is a guilty racist murder" bandwagon. It boggles my mind that not all the facts are known (well they will be made known soon) and that they come to a judgement so soon.

I'm having the opposite problem. Everyone on my wall is calling this a miscarriage of justice, and I'm posting links to the evidence telling them to first view what the jury had to work with before assuming they screwed up.

New York Times has posted documents of the evidence. From what I was able to gather from watching it over the last few hours the documents were distributed to St. Louis Public Radio, which posted them on its website. Several other more blog-esque sites quickly posted links, and now NPR and NYT also have the documents up (my suspicion was that they took longer to vet them)

Okay, so for those unfamiliar, Bill Cosby has been accused by multiple women over the last month or so of having raped them (the dates of the rapes vary, however most of the accusations are from a decade ago or longer). Source for further reference

I understand how important it is to not immediately dismiss alleged victims of sexual assault, and I also understand that sexual assault is often a traumatizing and life shattering experience, so not all assaults will be immediately reported.

That said, I don't understand what sort of reasonable solution is expected in this instance. We're talking about decade + old rape cases. The likelihood of being able to find even a shred of forensic evidence that would hold up in court is practically non-existent. Past that, you just have testimony of the victims, meaning it's (literally) a he says - she says case. While the number of victims coming forward seems to imply guilt, five people without proof still means there's no proof.

Part of me understands that if he is guilty, then the only recourse is through the court of public opinion, but the other half of me despises that method as it's contrary to everything our legal system was founded on. It just seems like there's no good answer here.
    Thoughts?

  • posted a message on Are "shirtstorm" and other moral panics like it a symptom of ideological neo-Marxism?

Or maybe he meant it, unless we are going to get into mind reading what do we have to go on other than his word? A bunch of right wing pundits who want to use this as a stick to beat their opposition?

Consider for a second a hypothetical: Suppose you come across a fascinating scientific discovery. You write up a scientific report throughout which you use "he" where you might otherwise have used a more gender neutral pronoun and publish. Someone on twitter reads the report and complains that this is an example of casual sexism. Other people on twitter and blogs pick up the story and similarly complain, citing this as an example of how women are unwelcome in STEM jobs, and citing your report as a case of casual sexism. I at least don't see how the gender of a pronoun (or the shirt you wear) has the BAREST relation to your work, but now nobody is talking about the discovery, they're up in arms about minutia. You now have three options:

1.) Tell the people upset that they're wrong
    2.) Ignore them
    3.) Apologize

Well 1 and 2, whether you believe them or not are ultimately traps. In both cases, regardless of your actual opinions, beliefs, and prior actions, you are demonstrating a lack of empathy for women in science and showing yourself to be a supporter (either overtly or implicitly) of this male dominated culture. So 3 is really the only option. But guess what: I don't have to believe that I did anything wrong to come to that conclusion. The fear of punishment is what leads to that outcome. Effectively, an apology becomes meaningless because you are just as likely doing it to shut the mob up as you are sincerely expressing remorse.

Am I the only one who's not sold on Zhu Li actually having betrayed them? Also she kicked some solid ass in that mech. Shame she gets so few lines XD

New GGO is better than AOL and less high stakes than SAO. It ends up worse due to poor plot decisions in season 1, but it's not awful.

Just watched the 1+2 opener. Coming off of the Clone wars, it's a pretty big downgrade in terms of animation, characters and story...

Hoping it gets better as it goes.

Season 4 rewards lock in tonight! How did everyone place? I managed to get plat 4 fairly early and was able to pretty much rest on my laurels, playing enough to stay out of the inactive queue. I've been having some fun in the team builder as of late, though.

Made it to diamond 5, never could get higher, stopped playing ranked and decayed down to plat 2 >.<
Eh well, I'm okay with that. I didn't really deserve my spot in diamond by the end of the season anyway. I was playing so badly :p
