Cogwork Librarians Text sounds like Conspiracy would be some kind of un-set. Probably less stupid-funny but still not serious. Would fit into the scheme because the great succes of Planechase, Archenemy and especially EDH shows how much unexploited market share lies within the casual formats.
And MaRo said he would love to make another un-set but sees no place for it in the near future.

Draft Cogwork Librarian face up. As you draft a card you may draft an additional card from that booster pack. If you do, put Cogwork Librarian into that booster pack.

But if there's constant power creep, the game will sooner or later reach a level where a 5/5 trample hexproof haste creature with 2 cmc is too weak to be playable...

There is a large difference between power creep and "not everything is a limited filler card". And my impression is that each set limited-viability is canibalizing more and more of the cards. The other side of this problem is: Power concentrates in a few pushed cards like Bramaz which end up extremly expensive.

Game one I won through color screw.

How did you won "through" color screw? In spite of color screw? Or did I just don't get how the hydra deck works? It's land-free after all.

The fact that this guy also did Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, invalidates any of the criticism about the quality of his art. It's one of the best arts printed for Magic EVER.

Erm sir, how does it invalidate the criticism at all?

I fully agree: Elesh Norn is one of the greatest artworks in MtG. Yet that doesn't has any impact on the Jace artwork. Imho the face of that Jace is just ugly. Having done great work before gives no one an criticism shield for future work.
On the other hand no one is bad at anything because he has done one subpar piece of work. Sometimes you score good, sometimes bad and sometimes the task is just crappy from the begining.

I think Vraska looks fine. But that Jace is the ugliest Planeswalker Art I have seen so far. I would even say his clothes are nicely looking. But that face and that expression... aweful.

I like Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge effect most but it's quite messy gameplay-wise (ok everyone hand me a chunk of your $300 decks please). But she's even one of the commanders least able to get a kill via commander damage.

Shattergang Brothers have an awesome template. But... the activation costs are far too expensive. And cmc 4 isn't even that cheap for an engine that needs cards to sacrifice AND a high activation cost.

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician has an awesome "recursion". But the effect seems rather weak. While you can do nice stuff with some building arround that tap/untap effect it's questionable if you weren't better of with just playing indepent good cards than ones that could be tinkered with.

Oloro, Ageless Ascetic is the only Generation 2 Commander that has the same impression of power & synergy like the most Gen 1 Commanders. He screasm "build arround me" but offers actually a lot if you do. And he still offers value if just in the command zone. So yeah Oloro is the only new commander that I actually like. OMG

Why not reprint the original Doubling Season? This would have been one of few places where it could have been reprinted without probems (planeswalkers etc.).

While the masses won't use this symetric Doubling Season there will be some decks where this card is just doubling season 5-8 and make that deck even less enjoyable.

Kudos for screwing it up WotC! Thumbs Down

Is this just dumb or even jerkish?

Commanders Arsenal was a slap in the face. But if I can't get such a basic item like a Set of Commander Decks for MRSP I should really think about stopping to buy real magic cards and instead only use proxies. Why should I support a company that seems to be unable to cater to their loyal customers?

two unispired and boring legends. hooray! so far every new legend feels so bland compared to the last time we did this.

I think they got some good ideas. Especially the "command zone matters" Theme is indeed a fresh idea. On the other hand all Gen1 commanders look far more inspiring than Gen2's. Im especially sad that the Grixis Commanders are so boring. It's a lovely shard with no fitting commander so far - sadly that won't change this year.

I'm unsure if I should buy all 5 like intended with such weak commanders overall...

So, there's probably gonna be a "...where X is the amount of mana spent to cast _____" cycle and a "Put _____ onto the battlefield from the command zone" cycle for each shard?

Possibly there is a cycle of commanders that interact with the command zone in ANY way. That would mean we have seen 3 of 5 already.

At least I hope there is more diversity among the new commanders. So far I feel all three more boring than nearly all the Gen1 Commanders.

It's funny how many cards feel like straigth out Ravnican Cards.

Spellheart Chimera, Steam Augury, Ashen Rider, Medomai the Ageless , Reaper of the Wilds, Psychic Intrusion better represent their guilds than many Ravnica 2.0 cards did.

Theros = Ravnica 2.5 with greek Flavor & Names? OMG

what I am wondering is what are the odds that, if these were at uncommon, you would actually see more than one in your colors when drafting? How much mana fixing could they really give on average?

Let's say it would be a significant change: You now are able to play with a bit better mana fixing in limited. And now what? Is limited utterly screwed? No, why should it? Every bomb hurts limited far more.

I'm tired about arguments how everything bad in magic (for me) is for the sake of limited if limited is often straight out screwed by bomb mythics & rares anyway.

None of the cards will be over $25. Theros is a big set. You'll draft it this fall till next spring. There'll be multiple Sealed Theros GPs.

    THS THS THS
THS THS Born of the Gods
THS Born of the Gods Journey into Nyx.

None of the cards scream broken so far. Scar City laughs at those who bought Xenagos at $40

    This!

Some past sets, especially Inistrad Block suffered from large demand due to new players (especially T2) which didn't opened packs (via draft or other) but bought singles. Theros won't have that problem. Couple that with high Number of drafts and the supply increases too.
Furthermore many past sets were lackluster overall but had 1-2 money cards. Theros seems so balanced that the overall value will disperse on all cards. Cheapest cards will be more expensive than usual but highest cards won't be that crazy as usual.

Could be the best set in my Magic History. I still just hate the Scry-Land-Cycle Grin

IMO, Ashiok's probably male. Wizards just wanna tease. Marketing strategy 101: never reveal your true colors.

    lol

Ashiok is 100% male, the german version of the Card confirms it.
