I do not mind Drum & Bass, but I really prefer Goa and Psychedelic Trance.

I've listened to Goa and Psytrance since before I'd ever heard D&B, or gotten into Metal. Both are good genres, some of the best under the blanket of electonica, but I like D&B more.

I guess it really depends on who you've heard in the genre. Some D&B artists don't really put much personality into their music.

    Amazing

    Yes it is.

Drum and Bass is my favorite style of music after Metal. I listen to quite a few artists who produce this type of music. It's not a very well known genre in the mainstream but there are countless artists who play it. As awesome as it is, though, it can very easily be boring, dry music.

    Couple of my favorites:

According to the federal gov't, Marijuana is a Schedule 1 substance, meaning it's illegal no matter where you are, or how you justify it.

If you had looked at the page, it clearly states this as a fact. What you're missing is that in a state or city where marijuana is decriminalized, it is still illegal to possess, so if caught, the police will confiscate it. However, you will not face criminal charges (although a drug class may be issued).

I'm not disputing it's legality, it's simply a case of your statements failing to be specific.

    Possession is a crime.

Not everywhere. Marijuana has been decriminalized (In small amounts) in a few U.S. States.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Places_that_have_decriminalized_non-medical_cannabis_in_the_United_States

This statement is like your "Marijuana can put you in jail statement". It's not wrong, but there's more to it.

Sorry, I meant to put it in the media's eyes. If a pot smoker argues for legalized pot, the media will pick him/her apart, saying that they're only saying that because they're addicted. Being clean of MJ and arguing for its legalization, even if you want to do it yourself, will look, to the media, as though you can control yourself and will be able to be less subjective.

Also, possession of pot is a crime that can easily be charged with jail time.

Thanks for clearing that up. You are correct, the media would definitely use that tactic. Your post came off as snobbish because it appeared you were just trying to argue that your opinion held more weight, but instead you were referring to the way a dissenter would respond in the media.

Now, the statement that possession can easily be charged with jail time is not entirely true. Yes, there is a three strike law in place in many states that will hit you with jail time. Yes, you can go to jail for possession. However, the average amount of pot that a smoker has on them is little more than enough to receive a slap on the wrist. It's the dealers that are holding large amounts.

Whether you wish to believe it or not, there is a stereotype regarding pot smokers being unproductive members of society

At no point in time did I dispute this. You however, linked this stereotype to directly affecting their ability to organize. You've taken a Logic class. You know what sweeping generalization is.

    Quote from Maverick827
Is marijuana legal yet? Then apparently they are not as organized as you think.

These statements have nothing to do with each other.

If potheads could [hyperbole]get off of their couches[/hyperbole] and organize coherent protests rather than simply staying at home and breaking the law, perhaps it would be legal by now.

If you really think all potheads do is sit at home and smoke, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Also, smokers are more organized than you think. Just type in "Marijuana Legalization" into Google and you will find plenty of websites and internet communities devoted to the legalization of Marijuana.

Someone who doesn't smoke, doesn't want to smoke, but wants it to be legalized(like myself) is a much more credible source, since it shows that they're not trying to look out for their own selfish desires.

Speak for yourself. I don't smoke, but I am for the legalization because I would like to do so, legally. That doesn't sound very different from your little example of a smoker's intention. Also, I fail to see how you can simply pass off judgment on all of those who do smoke regardless as selfish supporters of legality. It's been mentioned before that there are many good things that don't just affect a smoker that would come of this.

Quite frankly, I don't think you know what you are talking about.

It's also worthy of note that smoking pot will not put you in jail. It's the dealers that get hit with jail time. The smokers just get fined, or even less than that. I even know a guy who got away with 12 tabs of acid on his person with nothing more than community service.

With the way it's currently worded, Golden Drake appears to give you permanent control of the creature you've taken. I'm sure you meant to put owner instead of controller. Either way I really like the card.

I also like the "taunt" aspect of Gold Rush. It's nice and cheap LD that says to the opponent: "Here, have a card. Good luck playing it."

Golden Hammer brings Super Smash Borthers Brawl to mind. I like it.

@Dracosavant-Where could one find this Ensiferum cover?

It came as a bonus track on my copy of their album Iron. It's a hell of a good cover, I like it more than the original (The original being one of my favorite Metallica songs).

I don't get it. I am one of the few people I know that does NOT like Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. It just drives me nuts to listen to it. The original is like..practically raw with pain and anguish; whereas Cash's version is almost entirely monotone.

That's too bad. I feel the opposite. To me, Johnny Cash's version is better in every way, and is probably my favorite cover.

Also, I must agree with the OP in that Placebo's cover of Running Up That Hill is amazing.

    Other covers of note:

Vader - Fear of Napalm (Terrorizer)
    Antimatter - Mr. White (Trouble)
Apocalyptica - Until it Sleeps (Metallica)
Moonsorrow - For Whom the Bell Tolls (Metallica) <--- This cover is ridiculously awesome
    Ensiferum - Battery (Metallica)
Dark Tranquillity - Bringer of Torture (Kreator)
At the Gates - Captor of Sin (Slayer)

And for a good laugh any cover that Van Canto has performed is pretty hilarious. Their version of Nightwish - Wishmaster is awesome, in a silly kind of way.

EDIT: Forgot Agalloch's cover of Kneel to the Cross (Sol Invictus). Mad Mat mentioned it above. It's one of the better ones.

    Quote from Frein
80s rock and metal blows the modern equivalents out of the water. Bands nowadays are too busy painting their eyes black, slitting their wrists, growling (because they can't sing) and/or sounding as generic as possible to compete.:sneaky:

    Riiiiight.

I completely disagree. Growling may not be your style, but generic? Seriously? If anything Metal has only gotten better since the 80s, I'd argue the 90s was a much more important decade for this type of music.

First off, power metal masters Blind Guardian dropped arguably their best albums in the 90s (Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations From the Other Side, and Nightfall in Middle Earth). Sonata Arcitca (Ecliptica) and Demons and Wizards (S/t) both dropped incredible albums in 99.

Secondly, Black Metal took off like a rocket in the 90s, with Burzum, Mayhem, Satyricon and Darkthrone all releasing their best material, along with: Emperor dropping their best (In the Nightside Eclipse) in 94, Borknagar dropping their best (the Olden Domain) in 97, Enslaved getting off to an amazing start (Frost, Blodhemn), Bathory dropping one of their best (Hammerheart) in 90, Ulver had their best (Bergtatt, Nattens Madrigal), and Rotting Christ showing some amazing chops (Non Serviam, Triarchy of the Lost Lovers).

Death Metal showed huge strides in just about every deparment, with huge releases from Death (Human, Symbolic), At The Gates (Slaughter of the Soul, The Red in the Sky is Ours, Terminal Spirit Disease), Dark Tranquillity (Projector, Gallery), In Flames (The Jester Race, Whoracle), Edge of Sanity (Crimson), Opeth (My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life), Entombed (Left Hand Path), Dismember (Like an Everflowing Stream), Carcass (Heartwork), and Asphyx (the Rack, Last One on Earth).

Even Doom Metal showed big steps, with the blossoming of Death/Doom. Katatonia (Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day, Discouraged Ones) released their best material, and so did Anathema (Pentecost III, The Silent Enigma).

Great bands like Soilwork, Rapture, Summoning, and Windir all got a good start in the late 90s as well.

As a Metal head, I have a lot of reasons to say the 90s was the best decade for music.
